Whats the best way to kill the red dragon? I appear to be bad at hitting its foot then running under the stairs

If you're confident and have a decent melee weapon:

- Get under 25% encumberance for fast-rolling. You might as well take off all your armor since ideally you'll never get hit anyway.
- Two-hand whatever your most damaging weapon is.
- Go to the top of the little staircase that leads to the underside of the bridge, and either shoot the dragon once or just watch and wait until he flies down.
- The first time, just watch him land. Look closely and remember where his head ends up right when he lands, then quickly go back down the stairs.

- Shoot or wait for him to fly down again, but instead of just watching him, initiate a jumping attack at where his head is going to be. For maximum safety, you'll need to start the attack while he's still in the air.
- Run down the stairs as quickly as possible. Estus if you get clipped a bit by the fire. Expect to die once or twice while learning.
- Repeat the previous two steps until he's dead.

It's a bit easier for strength-heavy builds since they'll have bigger weapons, but really any character can do it easily with a +10 weapon, which you should have after beating the Depths. And you could do it with anything if you've got the patience. It's just a matter of getting the timing down so that you can run away safely.

Honestly the only boss that I felt was made harder by specializing in sorcery was Quelaaq.

How is this possible? if sorcery is at all like throwing lightning spears, our favourite half naked phantom distracts her while you can sit back at range and spam like a cheapass.

Also, thanks for reminding me that I need to learn to parry Havel, I can only imagine the look on people's faces when their white/sun phantom does that

Quelaag's AI aggros on whoever hit her last. So she'll come after you pretty quickly unless Mildred is hitting more or less constantly (not something that NPC phantoms tend to do).

I guess my Mildred is just super BA, wailing on Quelaag and not caring about standing in lava. And I guess the lightning spears are pretty slow.

This is a really really dumb question...but how do you aim in FPS mode with a bow/crossbow?

Mr. Self Destruct

lary

Crossbows can't, you have to do weird pointingyourguy aiming or lock on to the enemy, with regular bows hold it two handed and hit either Left Bumper or L1 to go into the aiming mode e: you have a surprising amount of mobility while aiming this way, took me a long rear end time to figure out you could move and dodge and poo poo while doing it

I rarely bother running Catacombs to its fullest nowadays. It's always roll down to the bottom, maybe summon Leroy. Depending on the type of run, maybe grab Darkmoon Seance Ring, maybe grab Tranquil Walk, maybe get to Vamos.

I just fought the Capra demon, and I've discovered something interesting.

I run out of stamina and get my face smashed in by big attacks and that's bad. The only reason I managed to kill him is by abusing invincibility frames on dodge rolls. His leaping move was essentially a one shot because it blew through all my stamina and half my health where I'd die to a follow-up swing after standing back up.

Do I need a better shield (hollow warrior shield)? Do I need to up my stamina?

Nahxela

Execution

A bit of both would probably be what you're looking for. However, in terms of a better shield, you can simply upgrade the one you have to get more stability. The Hollow Warrior Shield is fine as it is, but you just need more stability or endurance.

Though, to be honest, being able to use your roll's invincibility effectively is also a very important skill to have. There are some places where your shield won't do poo poo and being able to roll is a thousand times more useful.

The Legend

The higher the stability rating on a shield, the less stamina it takes to block an attack. Unfortunately, you don't have access to a lot of great shields at that point in the game. I think the Heater shield (from the Undead Merchant) would probably be the easiest to get to.

Maremidon posted:

Eagle shield, light armor, and a fuckload of HSM/HCSM. Take it slow. If you haven't done the Archives yet, I'd recommend doing that for the spells and catalyst that you get. Not to mention the best sorcerer weapon in the game: the Moonlight Greatsword.

Making my first move into Blighttown. Decided to stock up on the anti-poison moss. 12 purple moss clump + the spider shield should be good right? My intention is to get the iaito and then head back to get it upgraded so I can finally stop using the drake sword.

I've asked before but might have missed the answer, how do I reliably backstab something? I can get behind enemies easily enough but always just end up slashing them

Edit: I have to say, playing this game extremely tired really adds to the tension

For User0015, upgrading works thus: basic items and armor (Your starting set of armor, pretty much every weapon in the game with some exceptions, and the vast majority of shields) upgrade using titanite. You've been to the Undead Parish bonfire, right? Right above the blacksmith, Andre of Astora? Go back to him. It takes 10 titanite shards to get a weapon to +5. Each piece costs 800 souls, and upgrading is usually 100-200 souls each, so that's around 9000 souls to get a weapon (Or piece of armor or shield) to +5. +5 is vastly better than +0; if we use the Heater Shield as an example: at 0 it has 55 stability, but at +5 it has 60. Those 5 points make a difference. Or, if we take a weapon, say, a longsword: at 0 it does 80 damage, but by +5 it's doing 120 base damage. That's a sizable difference and it will make your life easier.

For Scott, the Iaito is actually very close to the entrance, if you're coming in from the Depths. You could suicide charge for it - once you get down to the level with the first fat barbarian, it's a straight run - past a number of enemies, but it's completely straight. If you make that jump with them chasing you, you'll actually be safe from them, too. Then it's just a death or a homeward bone to get back to the bonfire and a quick visit to Andre to upgrade it.

As for backstabbing, it's finicky sometimes. You have to basically be in the center of their back, with some of their attacks seeming to make their backstab hitbox even weirder (Like the circle attack that spear silver knights do - you'll know that when you get there). Try to be locked on, since that helps most of the time, although some people have more luck unlocked. Then, a basic R1/RB will initiate the stab if you're in the right position. Practice on mostly harmless enemies like the spearhollows up in the Undead Burg if you keep having trouble with it. The barbarians in Blighttown are relatively easy to backstab because of their moves, but their hitbox can be finicky. When in doubt, remember that your parry is more powerful than you think - even a buckler or parrying dagger can parry Havel's fuckoff huge Dragon Tooth if you time it right.

You cannot backstab if you were holding block while you hit r1 to execute the stab. Lower your shield a half second before you try to stab.

It's back where the merchant guy (I think his name is Domhall?) is, if you recall where that is. There's a big open area that leads to some heavy gates. Blighttown is past those gates.

And just as something to be aware of: Domnhall sells some special items for you after you kill certain bosses. For now, nothing, but once you finish with the area after the second bell, as well as some other key points, well. You can get some nice stuff from him.

Just checked out the link on the item duplication glitch. I'm under the impression here that people are bottomless box muling like crazy to get 99 of, for example, the boss souls, and then doing the duplication trick?

Or am I missing something? I'd really like to play around with different builds and having the ability to start a new character with enough consumable souls to get him to 120 or so would be really fantastic. Bottomless boxing my 2 Souls of a Hero seems like it would take... a considerable amount of time before i could do the 1/99 dupe.

What color arrow is it and what weapons and rings are you wearing? Armor sets don't have bonuses, but the different buffs you get from rings and such get those icons. If you're wearing the Ring of Favor of Protection, you'll get a yellow arrow, for example.

They're usually muling, but not by themselves. Either by character editing or a community effort to get 99 of everything. There's a goon one going around that you can attempt to hop onto, but if you only want souls to get up to SL120, the Dragonhead glitch is back. It's more or less the same as before, you just need an enemy to lock onto to do the pivoting part.

From the bonfire in the Depths, you should be able to go down into the grate room where the giant rat is/was on the other side. There's a ladder down there, which leads to the shortcut that you hopefully opened, which'll take you down to the chamber right before the Gaping Dragon's boss area.

The ladder is under some boxes, but you can just roll through them and fall down, the fall is short and won't hurt.

Petrus won't kill Reah until after you save her, and that's a long, long way away. You've still got roughly half the game to go before you even see Reah again.

Though if you've got the souls for absolution and don't need anything he sells, you might as well kill Petrus now anyway.
