This same thing has happened to me a few times. Mostly when I am idling hoping to be summoned. I've never actually seen the supposed effect of a gravelord mark.

It's supposed to create stronger, black phantom versions of enemies (like you would get at world tendency black in Demon's Souls), but I think hardly anyone bothers with it, if it even works.

Alright, I'm hoping someone can help me out here.

I've been trying to play any kind of multiplayer in this game since I bought it on release day. I'm on the 360. I've never been invaded or have been able to invade (except for once being invaded by an NPC.) I've on rare occasion seen white signs and tried to summon but I always get an error message. Basically, I've leveled two character to about soul level 60 and progressed through most of the game whilst trying to have some sort of multiplayer interaction, and the only thing I can seem to do online is see orange signs, and random ghosts fighting poo poo.

My friend and I made new characters, got to soul level 12, joined the white covenant, and tried various tricks to summon each other. We followed all the guidelines posted by From Software that's been posted in this thread and other places. We tried spamming signs, leaving them for 15-30 minutes, both tried being the host or client, ect. Nothing seems to work. He at least, is able to be summoned or summon other players.(rarely) We've never been able to see each other's signs. I've very rarely seen peoples' signs but have been unable to join as I said.

On one of my higher level characters I joined the covenant with the blue eye and ring and haven't had any success connecting to anyone with those methods, either.

Oh, and we also have both tried connecting our X-Boxes straight to our cable modems just to rule that out (getting desperate!) Nothing has worked. Any advice anyone?

You cannot control what P2P lobby you get put in so consistently summoning your friends is impossible.

Part of your problem is that the player population on the 360 sucks. I have never been invaded either and I've been human for 100% of my 2nd character's playthrough so far aside from the tutorial. White sign summoning works maybe 10-20% of the time both ways (summoning and getting summoned). If you can see other player's blue ghosts and signs then your connection and ports are fine, the problem is that the multiplayer system in this game is utter poo poo.

Havel... you loving shitlord

He's been pushing my face in all game (I'm playing a tanky guy and can't circle strafe for poo poo) and I FINALLY figured out a way to kill him easily: lure him to the top of the tower and step outside to the staircase. He will retreat, and if you step inside the tower he will come at you and take ONE swing before retreating again.

I was hitting him with fireballs from my +8 pyro hand, hitting him for about 240 points of damage per hit. I got him down to about 3% of his health, and the jackass launches himself into the abyss off the notch in the stairwell outside, taking his loving ring with him

It's just that invading in the early game is difficult, whether it be 360 or PS3. Without direct access to the invasion orbs until well into the game, the wonkiness of the Eyes of Death, and the reliance of getting into the Book of The Guilty, invasions are impractical for most of the game unless you join the forest hunters.

white signs not working often is probably some sort of connection issue similar to the Eyes of Death. Hopefully From will sort this all out.

I guess I've just gotten lucky, of the half dozen times I've attempted to summon in other players, it has only failed once. And the one time I put down my own summon sign, I got picked up in ~10 min. Small sample of attempts, sure, but so far I haven't had a problem (PS3 user).

Nah they respawn. Also I think you may have driven away the covenant leader for Forest Hunters. Basically all the dudes littered around the area you were just talking about.

I play this game with my shield up, and I approach everything with my shield up. With max stability I assume that I can tank the first blow of almost any non-boss attack then retreat to replan. This is how I also figure out who are NPCs and who aren't.

A few questions:

1) For the O&S fight, what's the best level to get picked up as a phantom? I'm currently SL40, but with enough souls to gain 3-4 levels, and I wanna know the sweet spot (plus get some more strength for better shields).

2) There's a bunch of unusable levels scattered around Anor Londo. Do they ever become usable?

3) Why does Smough have a pair of bollocks on his neck? Seriously, wtf!?

4) Someone mentioned earlier that uprating a message gives a humanity point to whoever wrote it. Is the reverse true? Because I really hope I screwed the gently caress who wrote a "Watch out for Left" next to a door where the ambush was on the right Also, fun fact: downrating a message ADDS to the rating. There are 6 guys altogether, 3 visible and 3 stealthed. The 3 stealth guys are a thief, a knight with a 2-hander and an archer. Only the thief and the 3 visible guys respawn.

We're talking about the Xbox360 version here, so kindly shut your mouth about things you know nothing about.

Last time I checked the Xbox360 had like 2k people in the Book of the Guilty. The PS3 version has like 30k. You need critical mass to make the multiplayer system work and the 360 doesn't have it.

Not to mention the failed summons, the failed invasions, the failed Gravelording, the fact that people in the Book of the Guilty can farm their pursuers because they all pop up in the same spot and the guilty get a warning (when the guide SPECIFICALLY says that they don't), etc. etc.

Edit: I see that From Software was trying to make a system that didn't require a centralized server and that's commendable. But the system they have isn't working very well at all.

Most of the problem with multiplayer could be fixed with a dedicated server instead of this P2P garbage. I really, really hope that server support is included in the patch and they put one up.

Yeah stick to her front and just to the side, you'll be out of the hit range of her fire whip thing and normal lava blasts. Run away as soon as she pauses her attack pattern, that means she's either going to to a leg stomp or her AOE fireball (not lava) which is unblockable and will gently caress you up.

I think it has to do with applying blur to models with hair/fur/whatever. You can see a serious framerate drop if you get near to the giant crow in Firelink and rotate your camera so it's right in front of it (thus triggering the depth of field blur on it). The same thing happens when those black cats in Darkroot do their fast rolling attack, which has motion blur.

It's not based on how many sins you've committed, it's purely your soul level (2000 souls times your level). So you have to save up souls and stop levelling up if you want to pay it off.

What a horrible thread to have a post.

There are a lot of problems with this game. I think that game reviewers kind of fell over themselves in order to show that they were "with it" and into Dark Souls without really addressing some of the problems:

A terrible input glitch that affects me fairly regularly where my guy doesn't attack for a few seconds. I know that this is fairly common. A game as hard as Dark Souls should NOT have an input glitch in it.
Horrible framerate problems in certain areas (different depending on the console).
Geometry glitches that can kill your character.
Busted multiplayer on an entire console.
Very very mean-spirited metagame decisions (say no to the cat once? You're out of the Covenant...FOREVER. Accidentally smack an NPC? Hope you like grinding souls for literally hours, or know of a very specific farming technique).
Really terrible PvP mechanics in general.

I like Dark Souls but it reminds me a lot of Everquest: the kernel of a great idea is there, but they have tacked on a bunch of half-baked pointlessly mean poo poo on top of it in the name of "challenge".

And it's no 89 on Metacritic, I'll tell you that much.
