I beat O&S at base warrior stats and stone armor with a +5 Lightning spear. It's pretty much impossible to truly gently caress yourself out of a win in this game, at least until NG+ (gently caress you four kings gently caress YOU)

edit: You can also skip pretty much all of Blighttown if you take the Master Key as your gift, so do that.

I agree that Demon's Souls is an overall better game. Dark Souls has areas I actually dislike because they are stupid (Lost Izalith), while Demon's had areas I hated because they were hard/unfair (5/1, 5/2) but didn't dislike at all from a design or gameplay standard. Demon's Souls benefits from Less is More, while Dark Souls tries to be a bit too grandscaled.
This really isn't fair. It is A-OK to like one over the other, but I don't think Dark Souls was "trying to be grandscaled", as much as simply setting the game in a cohesive/seamless world. In doing this Dark Souls is a in a lot of ways a much better adventure. It is in fact Dark Souls STRENGTH. It has greater potential for rewarding the player's knowledge of that single cohesive world in the form of sequence breaks. That doesn't mean the stage select method in Demon's isn't its strength, because it is. The point is simply that they are different, and the difference is fundamental.

I actually feel really bad for the guy I just invaded. He had aggro'd the Black Knight in Burg that hangs around the bottom of the stairs when I came in. Can't imagine what went through his mind when he saw the fog wall.

On the other hand his death gave me enough Humanity to get to Darkwraith+2 so he didn't die in vain!

Ok, what does your character look like atm? Stats? Equipment? Try Ornstein & Smough a couple of times, make sure you can semi-reliably take out one of them. Then, to get extra souls, get summoned and defeat them. Helping someone out with them nets you a neat 15k souls.

If your kit hasn't been upgraded completely yet, make sure you a) have an elemental weapon and b) have a strong as gently caress shield. You can get back to sen's fortress by talking to the gargoyles at the beginning of Anor Londo.

When I was SL20 I decided not to do Blightown right off the bat and went exploring, and I killed Havel, the Hydra in Darkroot Basin, stole some loot from an apparently undead dragon, kill a large Butterfly, managed to lose 25k souls from Havel and the Hydra to a ghost knight in the woods, watched a girl version of robin hood kill herself to avoid my swing. I finally did Blighttown, then killed the giant horrible monster made of lava with all the extra arms.

The problem is I got a Black Knight greatsword off the Black knight right next to the Hellkite Dragon. I decided I was going to use it, so I pumped my strength up to 32. I've got stats all over the place and am at SL52 now.

I'm using +5 Elite Knight Chest and Legs, Black Iron gloves, and the hood you can't upgrade from the demon ruins. I've got a +1 Lightning Spear and the Eagle shield from Sen's Fortress. Havel's Ring makes me light enough to have full mobility, I switch off my other ring depending on what I'm doing. I've got +8Pyromancy.

I've killed all the demons in the tar pit and all the giants on the roof of Sen's Fortress. I've done every optional thing, as far as I can tell, but I just can't finish this boss fight. Even if I bring Solaire, I always die to the giant lightning AoE that one shots me once they go Voltron. Should I just grind for more Health? My Vitality is less then 20, it feels pretty crippling.

GreenAcidRage posted:

I have the Master Key, actually. During my exploits around the world, I found the other entrance to Blighttown and decided to go up the ladder instead of going to Blighttown. I was murdered by forest ghosts and lost my precious 25k souls.

Oh, two things I've been wondering about. Who makes Fire weapons, and where's the Pyromancy guy in Blighttown? I saw Soapstone makers saying "Pyromancy ahead" and "Here!" on a little island, but nobody is there.

Also how the gently caress does Onion Man move so fast? I save him in Anor Londo, and twenty minutes later I'm saving him in Blighttown.

Have you upgraded your eagle shield? It makes a ton of difference in blocking. I've got a knight's shield at +9 and it's like a portable wall.

If you're looking at equipment, get any random sword (or spear), or anything randomly fast, get it to +5, get tons of green titanite (easily farmable from the giant leeches in the swamp near blighttown) and make it a flaming sword +5 at vamos, the blacksmith in the catacombs. Both O&S are vulnerable to fire, it makes the fight a lot easier. I've found that faster weapons are a lot nicer for the O&S fight.

Also, once you've done that, you can summon one more white phantom into that fight. It makes it completely trivial.

It's +4 I think. The only attack I have any trouble with is the rear end-slam that kills me if I'm anywhere on the same side of the room as Smaug. It's not as bad is Ornstein is the one who gets it though. May as well give it a try first thing tomorrow.

NG+ is pretty easy so far. Killed the Gargoyles, Moonlight Butterfly, hydra, and Sif. Everything's a lot easier when you know what to do and what path to take. I've started pumping INT to try out all these sorceries I have and boy are they useful. I've also started actually using my Ascended Pyromancy Flame +5. Why spend my stamina doing a full combo when I could just cast a Great Fireball instead?

I was 40 when I did it. There were many people to chose from when I was summoning phantoms. I also decided to help folks out to get humanity and was being summoned quite frequently. I'd get summoned within ten minutes of putting down my sign.

Actually, I just realized I've also got a question. I think I'm boned for getting a whip. I was in the painted world and got invaded by that NPC phantom. He ran right for me and as he came close, he leaped in to the air and, I swear to god I think I saw him do a somersault in mid-air, plummeted off the edge of the cliff. He didn't even touch me once. I got souls for "defeating" him, if I can even call it that, but I'm guessing he took his precious items with him?

Are you in human form? You have to use one humanity to reverse hallowing at a bonfire.

Yep, human form the whole time usually since I seem to randomly acquire humanity and usually cash it in at the next bonfire I see. I was invaded by a red NPC phantom in the depths and I can summon Solaire (speaking of which, the gaping dragon ate him, is he gone for good?)

Fuck you, got Midas

I don't get why the Gravelord covenant gets such a bad rep, it seems like a really fun way to gently caress with other players. Using an item that makes the enemies harder in 3 different players' worlds? Getting half their souls if they die to said enemies? Encouraging enemies to invade you giving you home turf advantage? Sounds like fun to me.

God dammit, every time I think I have this game beat I get to the next zone and get my rear end kicked.

Finally got tired of dying to regular lovely mobs and taking forever to fight bosses, so I traded in my +3 lightning longsword for a +3 lightning zweihander. Man, the difference is ridiculous. Used to hit for 100, maybe 150 on some mobs. Could get a few quick slashes in, but it wouldn't mean much.

One hit with the zweihander, one handed? 350 damage. Killed Seath, The Four Kings, the Demon Firesage, Ceaseless Discharge and Demon Centipede. Those giant demon guys in the fire zone with the huge axes? Dead in three hits. Capra demons? Two hits. Loving this sword so much that it makes me want to get the Black Knight weapons and fully upgrade them. I know the BK Greataxe attacks quickly and has great damage, might just give it a try.

But then, after I finished my killing spree, I wandered into Lost Izalith for the first time. gently caress this zone, and gently caress those giant undead...uh...chicken things.

None of the online portions seem to work very well. I've played through the game nearly three times now and the only difference Covenants have made is some easy trophies. I think I got a Gravelords once, it came up with a message about disasters and I went through the level like normal and didn't notice any difference. I don't use the RoFaP because there are times when I want two other rings. If I'm farming, I want to wear the Serpent and Forest Hunter ring. If I'm fighting Titanite Demons in the basement of Sen's Fortress, I want to wear Havel's and a Rusted Iron Ring. It's an amazing ring, but it really cuts down on the minute-to-minute gearswaps you can do.

Rusted Iron Ring for movement on awkward ground, sorcery ring for +spellpower or +spell-duration, backflip ring, stamina regen ring, Hornet Ring for super-backstabs, silence ring for sneaking around, Wolf Ring for extra poise, and don't forget the Fog Ring for when you wanna be a huge jackass.
