I actually think that fast travel is the lamest part of DS. it's true that once you get used to it, it's hard to go back, but in DS1 pre-Lordvessel, the interconnected world made it really pretty quick to get around. It make it so that you actually felt like you were doing epic journey poo poo.

Yeah no. Pre DLC getting anywhere near the Archives was a GIANT pain in the rear end. Same for the depths.

i think it's cool because you just beat the hardest boss encounter in the base game and now you get this power that lets you jump around the world and gently caress around and it feels like a milestone accomplishment and your character feels more powerful and in control of the world to go along with the story

I haven't been following closely, but the bellowing dragoncrest ring and crown of dusk both increase pyro damage, so that might help. Otherwise combustion should shred most common enemies.

If you're at the Four Kings as a pyromancer and having trouble, really, Iron Flesh and two hand your sword while equipping the heaviest stuff you've got. Don't even try to dodge, just throw trundle yourself at them. Iron Flesh and heavy armor should give you enough poise to chug some estus when you need to.

oh also something i forgot to mention for 4k attempts: there's a tricky way of getting back to them from firelink

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Weacs3YriT4

e: notice how he rolls away as soon as he crosses the fog door. that is important because the darkwraiths can hit you through the fog sometimes

e2: also notice how he runs away from the big magic missile thing? that's dumb and wastes dps time. just block it with the crest shield and you will be fine

I'm glad people are enjoying #TheStruggle but this was my last chance to play DS until next week so until then I am standing atop a tower with nearly 30k souls and no idea where to go.

Cliffhanger!

Edit: Minor victory, though. I took a potentially dumb risk and took on one of the black knights who had managed to kill me every time I revisited undead burg. I was very nervous but he went down in a single backstab. Guess I've done some leveling since then.

I got this game on steam summer sale and I'm blown away by the 60fps mod. I"m dodging everything so much better now that everything is so smooth.

Just met my first cheater today, one shot me with a single punch. Is there anything I can do about cheaters or am I hosed?

The first time I did that felt great! I went from terrified of those guys (and being their piñata) to actively hunting them down to being sad they don't respawn around the burg. If that's not satisfying progress then I don't know what is.

Just because someone kills you in one hit doesn't mean they're cheating. There's plenty of ways to build a character who can throw haymakers like that.

The most common form of cheating I've run across is infinite health. If you land several solid hits without doing any damage, you've probably got a cheater. Fortunately, cliffs will kill even cheaters. If you can kick or use the Force miracle to knock them off a cliff, they'll still die. I think Bleed weapons like Katanas can also damage cheaters as well.

Honestly, I would forget the pyro. What's your best weapon?

Here's Four Kings in a nutshell:

- learn the speedrun from Firelink (youtube is the easiest place to find it, but you can get there without fighting anything at all)
- when you get into the tower, equip your best weap, the Crest Shield (or whatever shield you have with the highest Magic Damage reduction)
- equip as much of Havel's armor as you can without going over 100% weight. (You'll know because you can barely move)
- equip Chloranthy Ring as your 2nd if you have it
- fall down to start the fight and stay put, but rotate the camera around you until you see the first King appear
- SPRINT towards him as fast as you can, and get right up in his face.
- if he fires either of the projectile attacks, raise your shield and block but keep moving forward
- two hand your weapon and swing for the fences
- heal as needed. You should have 20 swigs from Kindling Firelink all the way up. The armor's poise value is high enough that you can heal right through a hit
- as each King dies - KEEP SWINGING. You can still get in 2-3 good hits which take health away from their shared health bar

If you do this right, and your weapon / stats aren't awful - it will only be THREE Kings, not four. You will deplete the whole health bar before the 4th can spawn, AND you will have some wait time between each King spawning.

The damage boxes on the Kings are weird. The blades of the sword do WAY more damage than the hilt (natch) so if you stay as close as you can, only the hilt will hit you. Don't worry about dodging, and as long as your health is close to full when they do either the AoE explosion or the Grab, you'll survive it. Just heal immediately when you get up.

I have the route down, and I'm using the crest shield. I don't have Havel's Armor or the Chloranthy ring, though.

Since I've started this quest to find Griggs I think I'll try my best to complete it, but I'm still a little worried it won't help. My fire damage is so tiny that a 24% boost (according to the wiki) doesn't seem like it will add much? So if that doesn't work I guess I'll have to track down Havel's Armor, if possible?

This one boss has probably taken me over 10 hours at this point :negative:

It's not very hard to find Griggs. Especially if you've met Larry, you've already walked past his door at least once.

Havel's set is in a dark basement in Anor Londo. Attempt to kill fireplaces. I forget if the Stone Knight set is comparable.

What level is your pyro hand?

Yeah, I see people wear the Stone set more often than Havel's honestly, probably because it's nearly comparable poise for probably half the weight (god Havel's stuff is so drat heavy).

e: 21 Poise less, 5 weight less. Less of a weight difference than I thought, but could be enough to not be fat rolling still.

Rescued Griggs. Got his ring. Went to Anor Londo. Got Havel's Armor. EQUIPPED BOTH.

8 deaths later I still can't beat the Four Kings, though I got SO CLOSE one time. The problem is that they keep spamming the stupid magic attacks, even when I'm standing right up in their face. And when I try to heal, another one stabs me in the back from off-screen. It's very hard to find time to heal in between their attacks. I have to hold down the block button the entire time and hope it works.
