Am I correct in thinking that for PVE, while Great Chaos Fireball might not guarantee some splash damage, it's probably pretty good at distance control? It seems large enough an area to mitigate anything but the timeliest of forward rolls.

Well for PvE enemies are too dumb to actually move out of the lava patch so unless they naturally move around a lot you are guaranteed some extra damage. In PvP anyone who is half awake will dodge a lock-on fireball and it is easy to move around the patch but you can cause some confusion by manually aiming it. An example of Great Chaos Fireball working well in PvE is against the beast skeletons in the Tomb of Giants. You can throw the fireball at them from outside of their aggro range and the fireball plus the lava patch that they won't move out of in time will immediately kill them.

Yesterday, I came across an aggressive NPC human (not a phantom) in New Londo Ruins before the first bridge and ghost encounter. Any idea what that was? I think it was shortly after I killed Quelaag and Ceaseless Discharge. This is the first game where I find myself quickly breezing through text and I end up agreeing or disagreeing to things when I had no idea what just read so I may have pissed someone off. (Even when I was reading it, I had no idea what Alvina, the forest covenant cat was asking me to agree to.)

After Frampt shows up, if you talk to him a couple times he decides to leave. Then he'll go hollow and attack you by the New Londo bridge.

That conversation with Alvina is kind of ambiguous anyway. She asks you if you are looking for the grave of Sir Artorias and tells you that if you are that you should give up because traversing the Abyss is a myth, then the question she actually poses to you is if you are going to take her advice. You are supposed to say yes but it can trip you up if you aren't paying attention to the whole dialogue.

I beat Gwyn sans parrying by kiting him around the little stalagmite formation, getting in stabs when he went for a grab or at the end of his flurry. I guess it might have felt a little bit like cheese, but I was doing a whole lot of dying otherwise. Never parried much during the rest of the game (Eagle shield). Second playthrough is a good time thus far. So much easier to accomplish so much. I'm laughing a bit at the PVP bowing thing. I mostly try to avoid PVP, but I did a few Capra assists at around SL20. More than once our group was invaded right outside the door, and the first hint of the invasion was someone in the group bursting into flames. The phantom would then rise up out the ground with the announcement and all that. I assume the guy is just spamming combustion or something while loading? No idea but it was kind of lame and funny at the same time.

NuckmasterJ posted:Is anyone else getting some sort of spam about Disasters are gone something something Gravelord Servant. It's not spam. There's a covenant called Gravelord Servants whose sole purpose is to gently caress with you. The Gravelord uses an item which infects three victims' worlds with extra monsters (the disaster). In the infected world, a victim can find a sign on the ground. Activating it sends the victim to the Gravelord's world in an attempt to assassinate him and end the infection. If the Gravelord dies, the disasters end. Unfortunately it doesn't work very well and sometimes you'll get a notice that the disasters have ended when they never properly started.

Gwyn is a parriable boss. That is essentially his weakness, by design. I'm not sure how this is "cheesy". By that estimation I would imagine fighting O & S by using the pillars to your advantage is also cheesy. Which is ridiculous when you consider pre-patch crystal ring shield, which trivializes the whole game. What I'm trying to say is is that you motherfuckers are ridiculous.

Went to the trouble of getting gravelord at sl9 to infect gargoyles, sword is great but it sucks having no idea if anything is happening. Fog doors go up and down sometimes, but after two eyes both have been red normal phantoms invading, not the gravelord victims. Would be nice to be able to see your victims no matter what, watch them as they deal with your poo poo or something.

Man, I hope I didn't out-level the end-game. Been sitting with a combined time of ~25 minutes with my summon sign up in front of Gwyn, only got summoned once. Said "eh, I'll go finish the game I guess" and waited ~15 minutes to see someone else's sign, but no dice. Got invaded twice...kicked the blue invader's rear end (just kept hitting him even though he had his shield up, because the bleed still built up, heh.) and got killed by the red invader for laggy/explotation BS. Seriously, he swung, missed, I was right behind him, swung...yet it counts as blocked, even though I am staring at his back, I get my shield up, he swings, it hits. The Hell? Faked edit: So is SL 95 too high to reliably get help with Gwyn?

Managed to invade one gravelord three times (twice through his sign once through red eye stone) and the other one three times (though only once was through his sign and the other two where me doing my dark wraith poo poo). I saw a lot of activity in both their worlds. The first gravelord invasion was pretty mellow, just him and me. The second time I invaded him he was engaged in a fight so I waited for it to be over before fighting him. The third time I don't remember. The other gravelord though when I showed up through the gravelord sign he was fighting a red phantom that had baited him down to the first black knight. The red phantom backed off for a bit to let him deal with the knight but eventually got greedy and ran up to attack the gravelord (at which point I killed the red phantom). While I fought the gravelord two more invasions took place (though both invaders where polite enough to let us finish). I think for Hosting arena style poo poo the Gravelord Covenant could be really sick. Can you summon while gravelording? Like could I summon two phantoms, drop a gravelord sign, and get some good 3 vs 3 going?

Nope, you either have the "not enough stat" swing which makes you look like an idiot or a normal swing. Also, many weapons have you staggering a little bit if you miss a swing, mostly the bigger ones.

Wow...that ending... I did the "Link the Fire" ending, and Jesus, seriously? That's all we get? Is the other ending any better? I'd like to do a NG+, but I really hosed up my character build with this guy...tried too hard at the start to level up all the stats (yes, even resistance... I'm sorry, I didn't know!) and screwed the pooch later, since I couldn't get any stat high enough to really be a contender for "str build" or "Dex build" or whatever and not be, like, SL 150.

I think that this game creates the best feeling in the world, when you invade somebody and run towards them, and they just turn tail and run away. The idea of somebody just going "OHHH gently caress RED GUY" and trying to make a break for it with no real plan to deal with the situation is so funny to me. Its even better that with the dark wood grain ring, I can just chase them down and backstab them as they escape. Oh its just delicious.
