So for the skeletons I've heard you want a divine weapon - to get this to you just upgrade a normal weapon via Andrei using Green Titanite, or is there another way to get one? Also if you ascend a weapon are there any negatives that would make you want to descend it later?

Instead of doing NG+ on my plain battle axe pyromancer, I decided to roll up a new warrior with the plan to go heavy armor and heavy weapons melee, no magic/miracles. The first black knight in the burg dropped a black knight sword. I just got the stats to one-hand it, and proceeded to kill the nearby titanite demon with five jump strikes. Holy poo poo, I'm a convert.

To get a Divine weapon, you first raise a weapon to +5 normal (using regular titanite shars) and then have Andrei ascend it to Divine (which will upgrade with green titanite shards). Unless you're doing a faith build, Divine weapons aren't going to serve you well outside of the Catacombs, so there are downsides. Later in the game the cost to raise a new weapon from nothing to +5 normal is peanuts, so the only reason you're going to want to descend is if it's the only weapon of that kind you own and don't want to switch to a different one or farm drops.

1h black knight sword is awesome, it's been carrying me through so much (R2 is bullshit though). Also, question, why do people suggest the hollow soldier shield over (instead of) the balder shield? At least before upgrading, the balder shield has significantly more stability (by like 5 or 6); does the hollow soldier shield go up faster and have a higher max? Or have I misread something and missed the shield people are actually talking about?

Sometimes it seems like networking just takes a poo poo in the game, been sitting in quelaags for 30 mins with eye of death active with no red or blue phantoms. I still see all the messages but no one wants to connect for some reason. Still even see grey phantoms. Also finally got a successful gravelording session in the depths, had a few blue guys invade that were normal leveling dudes, one in a board helmet with a halberd and some guy in knight armor. Killed both before being invaded by red phantom #40k with lightning shotel and heavy backflip armor.

Well I did something really stupid tonight. I wanted to save Solaire on this playthrough so I gave the Chaos covenant 30 souls. I had 20 to begin with and had to grind the last 10. Once I finished giving the maiden the souls I was like "well, now that that's done, better go instantly back to Kaathe so I can use my red eye orb again!!" The second I rejoined the darkwraith covenant I thought "hmm... you know, I should have actually looked at the shortcut door to make sure it opened before leaving the covenant." Twenty minutes later, I'm endlessly grinding baby skeletons in the tomb of the giants for 30 more humanity.

Skeletons also break apart when hit with most clubs so if you're making a custom de-skeleton-er I suggest buying a "Reinforced Club" from that first merchant and making that Divine +5 or whatever. The big skeletons and the skeleton wheels don't rez so you can use your normal weapons on them, the club will only be for the first bit of the Catacombs. It's not really worth making a divine weapon just for that IMO so if you want to try it out just get that Occult Club that you can find in Anor Londo and downgrade it one step and you have a Divine +5 Club for the cost of no shards and a little Anor Londo hassle (it's in the downstairs part with the four chests and a mimic). You could raise your STR for the Black Knight Greataxe, or INT for Crystal Magic Weapon, or Faith for Wraith of God which are all good PvP options. Pretty much any character can do well in PvP with 40 VIT and END and a maxed out elemental weapon so it doesn't much matter.

I'm going to make a character using DEX scaling, I'm planning on ending up with either +15 Uchi or Iaito. I want to use RoFaP, flip ring, and Mask of the Mother, and end up with 45 DEX. Other than that I have no preference for items. Any build suggestions?

I just started a dex build myself. I'm planning to go... Wanderer start Vit 50 Attunement 12 - 23 (23 if I go pyro) End 40 Str 14 Dex 40 (45 seems like a waste, I know that's the casting speed cut off but for scaling 40 is fine) Int 15 (for Oolacile's Catalyst GMW buffs) There's a point left over, more if you leave attunement low. Some weapons I plan to use are Falchion, Iato, Uchi, Claw, Great Scythe, Ricard's Rapier, and probably one of the spears. The GMW is just a back up. I think this build will put out solid numbers without it. I plan to pick it up early though so I can stick with non-elemental weapons for the whole play through and back stuff up with GMW for PvE (since I don't see myself pushing dex above 20 or so until very late).

I haven't used casted buffs before, though, so GMW may be way better than I think. I'm just smitten with the idea of 99 fire or poison resins.

I guess I'll share this PvP build I've been playing for awhile since it kind of relies on buffing and is a different way to make a dex build: Dex/Faith Darkmoon Blade Cleric SL 130 VIT: 40 ATT: 19 END: 40 STR: 24 DEX: 35 RES: 11 INT: 8 FAI: 35 RH1: +15 Estoc/+5 Dragonslayer Spear RH2: +5 Quelaag's Fury Sword/Nothing (to save weight for the spear) LH1: +15 Grass Shield LH2: Canvas Talisman (its still better than the DMB one with my stats and +2 rank) Spells: 1 Darkmoon Blade, 1 Sunlight Blade, 2 Wrath of God, 1 Greater Magic Barrier Poise: 59 +5 Gargoyle Helm +5 Silver Knight Torso Smough's Gloves +5 Silver Knight Leggings Flip Ring/RoFaP (the best ring combo) This being like my 5th PvP character the idea was to use a build that countered the usual PvP mainstays, like claymore and BKGA movesets, while also being good at both invading and hosting. So an Estoc is very good against weapons that are slower than it, especially with a character with both speed and poise. While buffed the Estoc hits like a truck but won't stagger anyone worth a poo poo, so you have to be fast and able to take a hit or two. I've got a +15 Uchi and a +5 Silver Knight Sword I use sometimes just for variety, but overall the Estoc is most effective. I keep Quelaag's as backup since its pretty good with this build, and low weight but I switch it up with a +5 Light. Washing Pole too. Greater Magic Barrier shuts down mages/Moonlight sword users and WoG is good against anyone. But I have a bit of a problem relying on these low damage weapons that require buffing. The problem being that I like to host a lot, and this character is a lifelong DMB so I won't have access to the Red Eye Orb. Now the Blue Eye Orb is fairly reliable in certain places so I can still get invasions and weapon buffs are good for invasions because, by playing aggressively, you can end fights before the buff is up and be restored when the invasion ends. But its kind of annoying while hosting because after two invaders I'm out of buffs. So the Dragonslayer Spear is my main non buffed weapon, but its quickly becoming my main weapon overall. The Dragonslayer Spear loving owns. You will never see a BKGA user look more pathetic than when you're poking the poo poo outta him from just outside his range as his attacks flail around harmlessly. Its moveset is pretty basic with the R1s being simple (but effective) pokes and the R2s being mostly useless. The rolling R1 is a real gem as it comes out fast and has a deceivingly large hitbox. I also like to use the 2handed R2 (just the first part not the combo) when someone is standing up from a backstab. The spear will stagger someone with medium poise after several pokes and it can bash on shields all day. Overall its best used 2handed to maximize reach and speed. My build is a little high leveled but I wanted an extra +5 in Dex and Faith for a little edge. You could also make the case that 24 Str isn't needed for the Dragonslayer Spear since its best used 2handed anyways and 16 Str is a good cutoff point. While that's true I've found that WoG and 1handing the spear work well together since if they block the WoG and get staggered you can poke them before they can recover for guaranteed damage. Also this build doesn't really have to be a DMB since Sunlight Blade is pretty decent on its own. All in all out of the 5 or so PvP builds I've tried this is the one I win most consistently with. Jesus that turned into a lot of words. I'm trying not to play the game so much anymore too avoid getting burnt out. Its not going so well

Sounds like a fun build Volitaire. I dueled someone last night that was using Havel's Shield and a Demon's Spear. He'd back himself into the corner by the fog door and the wall to prevent me from getting around him and I went 0 for 2 or 3 against that guy inspite of trying to dead angle him with my Great Scythe. I'm not sure what the rest of his load out was. I never got a chance really to see his armor because of how hard he was turtling. He had mask of the father on and I think the paladin set underneath it. I wonder how effective the leo ring is on such a build (or an Estoc/Dragonslayer build for that matter). I've considered a shield + spear build for awhile but haven't gotten around to trying one. Not sure if I'd want to go Havel's Shield like the guy I fought last night or Artorias.

Even if you DO play a bit too much, you'd be surprised how much worse you get in the span of a month. I binged on Skyrim for about three weeks, thought I was getting sick of games, and then ended up doing a straight 30~ hour Int build run and having a blast re-learning Dark Souls. It has enough of an edge that you'll won't be completely burned out on it for long. Nice build, too. If you're looking for ways to shave off some levels, you could take a few points off of Endurance and Vitality. Not too much mind, but having a RoFaP on helps a lot more than you'd think and you wouldn't be losing much if you're running 37~ Vit/End instead of 40.
