Ok, finally killed Seath. So I'm done with Anor Londo and Duke's Archive's ...I guess it's on to Tomb of the Giants (ugh) and/or New Londo? Not much else left, right? Fake edit: I'm still rocking the Lightning Iatio...I don't know what else I can use for a quasi dex build. I have lots of dex and endurance, so I can move fast-ish but have heavy armor. Thank you, Havel's Ring.

Finished Tomb of the Giants and killed Nito. (Spoilers really still needed?) Could have had him in one try, except that you have to drop down and lose a decent chunk of health. Went to drink my Estus flask, and out of nowhere a red sword comes out of the ground and kills me. Seriously, that's a dick move. Not so much the sword, I know that's one of his attacks, but forcing you to fall...though I guess there's that one slow fall sorcery...is it assumed everyone has that? I don't. God drat, Ceaseless Discharge, WHY?! Half the time, despite having my best fire resist armor and the fire resist ring, I die before I can even get close because he'll just lava blast me two or three times in a row. I barely have time to get up and drink, like, half an Estus flask before he blasts again. And if I do get close enough, then I don't have enough physical resist to not lose ~80% of my health when he slams. "You dumbass!", you say, "just keep moving and he can't hit you with his slam" Bullshit he can't. I am running, sprinting even, and fall down and lose health. I didn't see the arm on my screen at all, I look behind me and see his arm is clearly like ten feet behind me, yet somehow registered as a hit. That happens like 50% of the time he attacks with his slam. Or he just does a double slam and before I have time to get up or drink a flash, I'm dead from the second hit. Or he does those swipes that I can't avoid no matter what I do. Edit: Ok, I didn't want to, but I cheesed him. I tried to do it the non-pussy way, but couldn't...forgive me...

gently caress me, I'm an idiot... I got to level 2 of Chaos Servents, so I could do the shotcut thingy and not get Solaire hollowed, and what do I do right when I get Chaos Storm? Ok, gently caress Dark Sun Gwyndolin. It shouldn't be this hard...but I suck at dodging that cluster of souls arrows (the one large one...soul spear? Easy to dodge.) I mean...there's like seven of them! I roll under a couple, I stand up and get hit by one or two...then when I stop to use Estus Flask, BAM, that's when the soul spear hits me. Plus, it kicks you back out to the Anor Londo bonfire, not the Darkmoon one. Not a big deal, right? Just rest there and teleport down...oh, wait, already killed the firekeeper here because what did I need this bonfire for? How was I supposed to know I'd respawn here? So now I run back to the bonfire at the bottom of Duke's Archives and teleport from there...since the tower is in the "down" position, I can't get to it without going through the church. AND STOP TELEPORTING!!!!

Well, no sooner after I post that then I got him, but only through dumb luck. He went the whole fight just using regular old arrows. Even the ones I didn't dodge barely brought down my stamina with my shield up. But the chest on the left was empty...I feel gyped.

Man, I hope I didn't out-level the end-game. Been sitting with a combined time of ~25 minutes with my summon sign up in front of Gwyn, only got summoned once. Said "eh, I'll go finish the game I guess" and waited ~15 minutes to see someone else's sign, but no dice. Got invaded twice...kicked the blue invader's rear end (just kept hitting him even though he had his shield up, because the bleed still built up, heh.) and got killed by the red invader for laggy/explotation BS. Seriously, he swung, missed, I was right behind him, swung...yet it counts as blocked, even though I am staring at his back, I get my shield up, he swings, it hits. The Hell? Wow...that ending... I did the "Link the Fire" ending, and Jesus, seriously? That's all we get? Is the other ending any better? I'd like to do a NG+, but I really hosed up my character build with this guy...tried too hard at the start to level up all the stats (yes, even resistance... I'm sorry, I didn't know!) and screwed the pooch later, since I couldn't get any stat high enough to really be a contender for "str build" or "Dex build" or whatever and not be, like, SL 150.

On my second playthtough (not NG+, new character,) and doing so much better than the first time around...it's amazing how much of this game is just "don't be retarded" and not "hey, now I have more strength and can kick rear end!" Already rung the first bell, less than two hours in, and that's with taking things slow. But no one is summoning me for their Gargoyle fight. I'm level 12...that should be perfect for that fight.

Do Occult weapons actually build up curse on anyone? Either in PvP or PvE? I tried using the occult club you get in Anor Londo in PvP, even upgraded it to +3, just to see if I could kill someone but cursing them rather than straight up damage, figuring even if they blocked all my attacks it wouldn't matter, but it didn't seem to ever do anything. So on this character right now, I'm going for a sort of Dex build...I'm really liking the halberd...already got it to +5, just got the large ember, so pretty soon I'll be grinding to get some large titanite to get it to +10. I don't think I'll give it any "special" properties...just get it to +15. So far casting Magic Weapon on it is working out pretty well for tough enemies/boss fights. And for the occasional boss who is magic resistance, I've got lots of resins! my other 'go to' weapon is a +5 bandit knife for enemies that are too fast for the halberd...not that the halberd is slow (well, not the R1 attack, R2 is,) but the knife is so much faster than anything. Plus, you know...the blood thing. So I switch between those two, and keep the pyromancy hand as my second weapon, because the occasional fireball is too good to pass up (PvE, too slow for PvP.) Right now rocking the RoFaP, and will start using ninja flip ring once I can get to it...my other ring is Evil Eye (pfft, basilisks don't scare me. I've only ever been cursed by them a couple times, and those were from the Great Hollow ones, not the Depths.) What's the best armor for a Dex build? I've got the black thief set now just because I don't have anything else that's light and decent...got the breastpiece and leggins to +5, helmet and gloves at +1 or +2...I'd like to try and eventually keep <25% encumbrance, since with literally ZERO poise I need to be as fast as possible. I'm at like 35% now (when using halberd, the knife gets me to 27%...if I unequip the catalyst in my shield hand i can be <25% with the knife) so my next few levels will all be in endurance.

Zizzyx posted:You never "have" to roll, but rolling is the best technique in the game. It's the fastest way to kill anything without taking damage and is practically free. But it's much more risky than blocking. There aren't many things you come across that will one shot you while blocking with a 100% physical resist shield. Sif's 720 spin, Havel's two handed attack, Capra's two handed attack...a few others...even these might not one shot you if you're high enough level and put points into endurance and/or vitality. Yeah, rolling, if done right, will be less stamina spent, and you don't have to worry if your poise is high enough to not stagger, but for some attacks, if you roll even a half second early or late, you'll get hit...especially for attacks that have really good tracking.

That is, of course, assuming I don't space out and just run right into the giant hole in the ground left by the elevator being at the bottom of the shaft. You know what? I feel really bad for the Giant Blacksmith. He's pretty much the last of his kind, isn't he? I mean...one area is called Tomb of the Giants, for gently caress's sack, and it's all giant skeletons...no other very large, very alive, people are to be found... And since we're on general NPC discussion, I don't understand Knight Solaire. By which I mean this: When you're playing, people are either in your world as NPC's you can talk to, interact with, kill, etc...they can be human (meaning they die and that's it, like some merchants and blacksmiths,) or Undead like you (they can go Hollow after they die, usually resulting in them going crazy and attacking you (Crestfallen Knight.)) Or, people are in their world, and can invade/get summoned to help you (Man Eater Mildred, Paladin Leroy, every other person playing the game) as a phantom. Yet, somehow, Knight Solaire is both...he's in your world when you meet him in in The Burg, or at his bonfire/covenant shrine later in the game, yet he can also get summoned to help you as a phantom. Actually, know that I think about it, it's the same deal with Knight Lautrec. He's mostly in your world, as a person, not phantom, but if you finish his storyline, it's you invading his world to kill him...

That reminds of me the weirdest invasion I've ever had, just a couple nights ago: I just got to Anor Londo, and just before I was going to start walking on the rafters, I get invaded. I go outside and see him on the bridge, but he's not moving...I shoot an arrow at him, more as a "hey, I'm up here" move than trying to actually snipe him, and he still doesn't come up. I shoot him a few more times, gave the "shrug" gesture, hoping he understands that I can't come down to meet him (well, unless I did the rafters thing, but I didn't want to do that since he could come up behind me.) He eventually comes up, and I go inside to wait...he walks in...does nothing. I attack, and he just blocks...I try to go around for backstab, he just moves with me and blocks..that's it. Eventually he runs up the ladder to the rafters, and I'm like "crap, I don't want to have to fight up there, but I will." But he just runs across them to the other side then gets down..o...k... I do the same, and again, when I get to him, he just blocks, then runs away again, jumping down onto that ledge at the end of the church...I get down, and finally manage to be behind him, backstab, then a couple more hits and he dies. I have no idea what his game was...
