I've been busy dying for a just about an hour and a half now. I've got two questions:

Is there a sensible way to kill the black knight in the undead burg? I've fought him a lot, but even if I manage to get in some serious backstabbing, I don't seem to do him much damage.

Also, I used the master key to go downstairs in that big spiral room. There's a dude with a huge club down there. A floor message suggested backstabbing, which I tried. A backstab only seemed to cost him about five percent of his health, though, and he one-shots me.

Should I leave these two alone for the moment?

I'm wondering about the fastest way to kill the guys with shields and spears. Someone above suggests kicking them, but when I kick the guys, it doesn't break their guard. Likewise, I'm not fast enough to get around behind them, even rolling - I don't think I've ever killed one other than by waiting for him to strike and hitting him quickly before he can.

These guys are taking me forever, longer on average than I took for the boar.

Get out of the tower. If you're talking about the guy in the Parish, go down the tower, get into that courtyard, then backstab him to death.

Man that was intense.

I had a similar situation - Mildred got stuck between a huge pool of lava and a wall, leaving me to deal with Quelaag for most of the fight. When the pool finally cooled/disappeared, she came back in to help with the last quarter of the boss's health bar..

I was using the black knight greatsword, which made a lot of difference. I'd been using a Bandit Knife +8, which does murderous backstab damage, but now so many enemies don't have backs!

If you've got the masterkey, you can go down into the Valley of the Drakes from Firelink, and pick up a fire-resistant shield from in front of the zombie dragon. That should take care of your fire problem. You could also just make sure to keep gargoyle between you and the second until the first is dead.

I'm at least fifteen deaths in at this point. I've lost multiple blood stains, probably totaling 50k in souls. I know for a fact I've lost at least five humanity. Usually it doesn't bother me, but this one area has me in such a state.

I'd be one thing if the bonfire were closer, but it is not. It's a long haul there. :(

There's a bonfire fairly close - just two big knights and about five of those lightning spear demon things between you and the jerks with the bows.

So, I'm kinda stuck at Ornstein and Smough. The first half of the battle isn't bad at all - I die alot, but I can kill Smough without too much trouble - my problem is that I can barely scratch Ornstein in part 2 - I'm using the lightning spear I found in Sen's fortress right now, but I've also got my divine broadsword +5. The spear tears up Smough's fat rear end like it was playdough, obviously lightning damage doesn't mean poo poo to Ornstein, and my divine broadsword is only averaging about 60-70 per hit, so whittling the bastard down is going to take a while.

Frankly I've just about gotten to the point where I almost want to give up, go clear a few alternate areas and just come back later. Is there a way to get the gently caress out of Anor Londo without the lordvessel, or am I just going to have to tough it out? I want to get a piece of the catacombs and giants, maybe find some white titanite and get my sword to +10 before I go back and thrash these bastards.

There is no point where the game is a joke. Once you're used to it, you'll have very little trouble with basic enemies, but even at a high level and with very good gear, a single mistake, particularly when there's a crowd of 3 or 4 basic enemies around, will kill you.

Also, I don't know what MvC3 is, but you need to be quick, observant, and methodical to fight well in this game.
