Does the CE even have anything worthwhile? I don't care about the box the game comes in.

I've been busy dying for a just about an hour and a half now. I've got two questions: Is there a sensible way to kill the black knight in the undead burg? I've fought him a lot, but even if I manage to get in some serious backstabbing, I don't seem to do him much damage. Also, I used the master key to go downstairs in that big spiral room. There's a dude with a huge club down there. A floor message suggested backstabbing, which I tried. A backstab only seemed to cost him about five percent of his health, though, and he one-shots me. Should I leave these two alone for the moment?

I'm wondering about the fastest way to kill the guys with shields and spears. Someone above suggests kicking them, but when I kick the guys, it doesn't break their guard. Likewise, I'm not fast enough to get around behind them, even rolling - I don't think I've ever killed one other than by waiting for him to strike and hitting him quickly before he can. These guys are taking me forever, longer on average than I took for the boar.

I just finally finished the belltower gargoyles. It was my first time seeing them, and I sort of freaked. Ran around slashing like crazy, and, miraculously, I never even got hit. They were just whiffing like crazy. I'm soul level 18, hanging around with my white sign outside their door right now. Want to do it again.

I just got summoned for the gargoyles, and killed them. I've been waiting around with a sign on the floor for about ten minutes now, and no one has asked for my help. I just want to be useful. Soul level is low, though, 18.

Any tips for using the Bandit Knife to maximum effect? I really like its backstabbing ease and bleed effect. I just pushed it to +7, and I'm getting 350 damage on a backstab, which is nice.

I spent a big part of the evening hanging out in front of Capra's fog gate, putting down summon sign after summon sign. I killed him 8 times, and then joined the Sunlight covenant with only 11 Faith. I hope I got to help out somebody here. Having a friend or two makes Capra die fast.

I had a similar situation - Mildred got stuck between a huge pool of lava and a wall, leaving me to deal with Quelaag for most of the fight. When the pool finally cooled/disappeared, she came back in to help with the last quarter of the boss's health bar.. I was using the black knight greatsword, which made a lot of difference. I'd been using a Bandit Knife +8, which does murderous backstab damage, but now so many enemies don't have backs!

If I were to upgrade that thing up to lightning or whatever, will the bleed effect still be strong? The bleed effect should stay the same. You might miss out on the stat scaling once the patch comes through, though. I'm sitting on a +10 Bandit Knife and waiting to see. That thing is my favorite. Biggest critical bonus of anything in the game.

Polite Tim posted:I got the first gargoyle down to about 1/10th health before the second one turned up and stunlocked me with his firebreath, will attempt to get some humanity somewhere. Is it worth going through blighttown or darkroot gardens to pick up some souls/humanity/gear first? If you've got the masterkey, you can go down into the Valley of the Drakes from Firelink, and pick up a fire-resistant shield from in front of the zombie dragon. That should take care of your fire problem. You could also just make sure to keep gargoyle between you and the second until the first is dead.

Everyone hated them, much like everyone hated the Capra Demon. I didn't have much trouble with Capra at all, so I thought to myself, "it won't be that bad." There's a bonfire fairly close - just two big knights and about five of those lightning spear demon things between you and the jerks with the bows. I thought they weren't supposed to respawn, though. I summoned some guy, we killed them, then I fell off something and died, and now they're back. Off to get some poison arrows.

I just leveled enough to get 20 faith, and so I can finally use the Lightning Spear miracle that the Sunlight covenant gave me. It looks really awesome, but I'm having trouble using it effectively. Is there any way to hit things at beyond targeting distance? Some way to aim it would go a long way toward making it a viable weapon.

SL33 and anor londo has been a pleasant walk in the park so far, but judging by the levels in this thread i'm gonna be way too low for the matchmaker to find a viable summon partner for the boss :/ I get killed by the two big knights outside the boss room there pretty often, at least if I'm on my own. Taking the two of them at once is really hard.

I think you're just a bit high level for Capra. I stood outside his door at level 22, and I got summoned 8 times in a row, waiting only five minutes or so between fights. At your level, you'll probably get summoned a bunch for Quelaag or the Iron Golem. I did the golem about five times one evening right at mid-30s.

I just picked up two friends and went over to Ornstein and Smough's place. We all sort of ganged up on Smough, kicked his rear end, and then they went to town on Mega-Ornstein while I stood out of the way and knocked back estus to keep my buds' healthy. It was awesome. This is also like my 15th attempt at them. This game is seriously fun multiplayer, when it works.

McKilligan posted:So, I'm kinda stuck at Ornstein and Smough. The first half of the battle isn't bad at all - I die alot, but I can kill Smough without too much trouble - my problem is that I can barely scratch Ornstein in part 2 - I'm using the lightning spear I found in Sen's fortress right now, but I've also got my divine broadsword +5. The spear tears up Smough's fat rear end like it was playdough, obviously lightning damage doesn't mean poo poo to Ornstein, and my divine broadsword is only averaging about 60-70 per hit, so whittling the bastard down is going to take a while. Get some humanity and summon up some friends. I was in a similar situation, but where one person may fail, three will work really nicely.

There is no point where the game is a joke. Once you're used to it, you'll have very little trouble with basic enemies, but even at a high level and with very good gear, a single mistake, particularly when there's a crowd of 3 or 4 basic enemies around, will kill you. Also, I don't know what MvC3 is, but you need to be quick, observant, and methodical to fight well in this game.
