I picked this game up yesterday and have just beaten the gargoyle bell boss or whatever it is. Looking to do some multiplayer later on but I have no idea where the white soap stone is or how it works.

Is the white soap stone a consumable now or is it similar to the blue stone in Demon Souls? Also it would seem as though they have made it nearly impossible to team up with friends in dark souls for co-op, any one having any luck at all or is it pretty much a no go?

Yes it is to do with equip burder. By increasing stamina you will be able to equip heavier armor and still be able to move around alright. Alternatively you can get the ring of the dildo knight.

If you get invaded and die with a Ring of Sacrifice, do they get anything?

It would be pretty hard to tell unless you were able to ask the person who invaded you, but I'm pretty sure you can still go to your bloodstain after you get killed by an invader but they still get souls/items anyway so I would say that they do.

Well this game has hosed me over in a way that I have no idea how I'm supposed to recover from. I was in the depths, and got cursed by some toad thing, and died. Now I have 50% of my max HP, at a bonfire way the hell away from anywhere else, and I am having a lot of trouble getting back out of the depths, let along all the way through lower undeadburg. Is there any nearby way to cure this curse, or do I just have to try over and over again to fight my way back upstairs when any enemy can 2-3 hit kill me and there's always 3-4 in any given area?

Just outside of the depths you can get to a merchant who sells an item to cure curse for 6000 souls. You will still have to get out of the depths but after that there is just one normal archer guy. When you get out of the depths there is a set of stairs and a door, you just have to go through that door and up the spiraling stairs and into the little water way where the merchant is directly on your right.

Oh thank God. The ghost grab just seemed to quick and drat near unavoidable I was afraid enemies would start doing it more often. insta-kill grabs are fine as long as there is some warning.

Also, is it possible in any technical way for From software to patch the lag out? It's a vague question but if not I can't see myself going through blightown over again in another play-through. Also have to wonder if it's good for your x-box to be chugging like hell for a good hour or so.

The ghost grab isn't that quick and can actually be easily stopped by just hitting the ghost before they fully extend their hooks out. You can hear when they do it too.

Does absolutely suck though when you are fighting a ghost in front of you and next minute you get caught in the hooks from a ghost that has been hiding in a wall.

That reminds me, I need to make myself one of those

Was there any noticeable difference in the enemy difficulty? Or was there more enemies spawning or something in your world?

Where do I need to stand/be attacking for Sif? Do I apply the stab the rear end theory?

When I fought sif I found that the only attack that he dominated me on was the one where he starts his swing from the left and does two full circles. The otheres (Right to left wings) I could block. So if he had the sword on his left side I would back away with my shield up and if he was doing the right to left swing I would charge in with my shield up and get right underneath him and take a few swings.

I just read on the wikidot something about vagrants(black phantom npc) that appear due to someone else dropping items in their world. Has anyone seen one of these black phantoms? It seems to me that no one would be dropping anything in dark souls due to the lack of an item burden etc.

I haven't seen anyone talk about their actual loadout here, so I'll ask: Does anyone here use two magic schools at once? I started as a cleric, but I've seen people rave about Pyromancy, and I'm pissed that Magic gets some of the support magics like Remedy that you'd think would be for clerics. I just can't see myself micromanaging rquip loads very often, and I don't think I can equip Right Hand sword, Left Hand Shield, 2 different talismans, and a bow at the same time.

I'm currently rolling through as a sorcerer and for most areas I usually have my sorcery catalyst and the pyromancy flame on right hand and a shield and bow in my left. This is mostly because there is a limit to the amount of magic attacks you can have on your guy in the early game so I liked to take a few pyromancies with me as well. In areas where using a weapon is more ideal I'll usually have the sorcery catalyst and weapon in my right hand and a shield and catalyst in my left so that I can cast that magic weapon spell.

If you've bought and used the 4 Transient Curses from the aqueduct merchant, plus the ones they give you at the start of New Londo, because I suck and die a lot, how do I hurt the ghosts?

If you get cursed by the frogs your hp will be 50% of what it is now but you will also be able to hit the ghosts. There is a guy in New Londo that can cure curses or you can buy the purging stones from the woman in the aquaduct or farm them from clams in places like the ash lake. I think the ghosts drop the transient curses and also sometimes a ghost blade that lets you attack them without being cursed.

Antiquated Skirt is one of (if not the best) light armors in the game. Good choice.

Someone said this beforehand, but helping someone on Gargoyles and hearing the bell ring is so satisfying. This guy wrote me a long thank you (I helped him get the tail-axe and apparently he got the shield), and then I got to hear the bell ring shortly after.

I've been dropping my sigil right outside the path from the bonfire near the blacksmith. Is that ideal?

I have found that putting your sign as close to the area near the bonfire on the path towards the boss is the best way to do it. This is because in areas where a lot of people are getting summoned I was finding that most people were summoning 2 guys well before they got to the boss and wouldn't even see my sign if I put it just outside the boss. It's sort of a first in best dressed situation.

Mine is as early as physically possible. Not getting summoned, but it might just be a dry spell. I just need to assist 7 more people before I can be a comrade at arms with Solaire again

Could be a combination of things, those being your level, the time your playing at and what server your on. On the wikidot it is still saying that you have to be within 10% of the other persons soul level as opposed to +- 10 levels, so at the low levels people would be doing gargoyles at (probably less than 20) you would have to pretty much be within 1 level of the people who are trying to summon you which greatly reduces your chances of being summoned. I'm not sure if that is actually the case though.

I've tried but have never been able to pull it off. In particular the room where you have to climb the ladder to get the key to lower the water is full of ghosts. I've read that you can get up the ladder without fighting them but every time I tried I was killed by ghosts getting up there. Not only that but the area where the firekeepers soul is you get ambushed from behind and in front by 4 ghosts.

Is the bonfire in front of Darkmoon Gwyndolin supposed to be completely useless? It respawns me at the extinguished firekeeper's bonfire every time he kills me, and I have to trek all the way back to Sen's Fortress and warp from there because the bridge mechanism is out of reach. This is really tedious, especially against a boss that can stunlock your entire HP bar away in half a second.

I've beaten this game twice already, and this is the first time it's actually frustrated me. Maybe I should've just left Londo lit!

This might be a silly question but are you actually resting at the bonfire and not just lighting it? When I fought that boss and kept getting killed it kept taking me straight back to the bonfire in her room but I also hadn't killed the fire keeper at the first fire which I'm assuming you have. Might be a glitch caused by that.

Resting at the bonfire, levelled up at it a few times. The bonfire keeper is dead, but I don't know why that would trigger this. Ramming my head into the boss wouldn't be so bad if the run wasn't 5x longer than the fights.

It must just be a glitch or something. The only thing I would suggest that might make your trip a little shorter could be to not use the bonfire in that room at all. That way when you die you will be taken back to the last active bonfire you used and you can warp to the darkmoon bonfire.

Speaking of invading, does the trident buff nearby enemies when you're a red phantom? I was thinking of getting that plus the channeler set on a low level character and hanging out with the other channeler in the parish church, buffing hollows and tossing soul arrows. With the fattest character model. Hopefully the buff is just as good if you don't meet the weapon requirements as well, because gently caress if I'll have 24 int and a mess of str and dex by that level.

I've seen a video on youtube where a red phantom uses the trident in the crystal caves to buff one of the crystal golems so it seems that it does work on hollows when you are a red phantom.

From my own experimentation with other weapons that give R2 effects however you need to have the stats required for the weapon to use the effect (only tried with the stone great sword thing).

Hmm. Never taken that before! So I go up. And up and up and up! Turns out, there's a way around having to pay 20K souls if you want to get to Sif's area.

...It just involves going through the forest of horrifying hellbeasts.

Hooooly loving poo poo. When one of those fat black cat motherfuckers came rolling out of the darkness like Sonic on crack, I drat near dropped the controller. I killed one, but oh hey he has two buddies! Hell yes I ran like a bitch. Wandered aimlessly for awhile before realizing where I was. Got the stone armor, accidentally said the wrong thing to the dumb covenant cat so now everything's mad...

I got the Ember and decide to get the gently caress out. ...Annnd when I get down one ladder, it says I've been invaded. I'm standing on the bridge overlooking the waterfall, and I'm 100% sure this dumbass will never find me. Fog door is blocking my path, and it wasn't there when I came in, so he's still around. I bet he doesn't even know this place exists. I've played for like 60 hours+ now and I didn't know it existed.

Guess I should go up and try to deal with him. If he's gonna be stubborn and wander around until I show up, I can at least stop hiding and get it over with. Such a hassle... I knew going human form would be bad here, but I'd heard you need to be to talk to Dusk after you free her...

tl;dr: Darkroot Basin Adventures!

E: Hahahaha, as I was walking around trying to find him, I get the message that he was vanquished. I was near the hellbeast area and actually saw one roll, so I guess they kicked his rear end.

E: vvv Didn't want to have to go back through the Basin again, basically. Paid off for me this time. Got out of it for the better.

Enemies can't attack invaders so he probably killed himself by jumping off a cliff due to being bored of waiting. Also you don't have to go through the area with the cat things in it after going up that ladder you can just back track through some of the trees that come to life and end up at the starting door. You don't need to be alive to talk to dusk either.

I had a similar thing happen last night at gargoyles but it was the opposite. I had my summon sign down and then all of a sudden it said I was invading and ended up being a red phantom in this persons world instead of a white phantom. Also saw my first gravelords sign (in the depths) and also had it fail to invade. The one I found was hidden under some boxes and I luckily caught a glimpse of the (press x to enter world) text come up as I ran over it.
