Between 2 and 3, if the release dates are anything to go by.

Alternatively, it's a video game and none of their 'stories' are in any order, no more than Mario games.

Also Here's the steam page.

If you look at the achievements, some of the people who own it already have some of them. Must be developers or valve employees or something.

Just pre-ordered my copy, and I got these for free, so there is for sure a pre-order bonus.
Unless it's US exclusive only, which is kind of a bummer in that case.

Sonic CD was developed concurrently with sonic 2. Basically after Sonic 1 half of Sonic Team moved to the USA and worked on the megadrive sequels while the rest stayed behind and worked on CD. Somewhere in CD's files is a picture of Tails with the message: 'see you next game'. This was originally meant to show up after the credits, but Sonic 2 made it out of the door first and it got removed.

It most likely fits between 1 and 2, although that would tragically make Amy the first of Sonic's friends.

For anyone who's interested, I've ran through both versions of the demo a couple of times, and the Xbox/PS3 versions both look and run identically. Will be going with the PS3 version myself, so I can use the Dualshock's D-Pad for classic Sonic, but either version of the game looks to be a safe bet.

Steam says it has gamepad support, so there's that at least. What I'm hoping for is a demo, I want to see how well it runs on my PC.

Hearing about S3&K on Steam has reminded me that Sonic & Knuckles is the only main Genesis Sonic game I haven't bought on XBLA yet, but I'm on the fence. Does it enable you to play through the locked-on Sonic 3 or 2 if I also have those titles?

It does. Sonic 2 & Knuckles should work like normal. Though with S3&K, like with Sonic 3, you still lack going back through stages.

Maybe they were going for a classic and 'modern' Sonic games bundle. The 'modern' one being 3D and terrible, much like every other modern Sonic game

"Would you mind not talking to me? I am appraising some pigs now."

Apologies if this has been asked and answered before, but there's something bugging me about the Collector's Edition statue. I know that Modern Sonic has buckles on his shoes, but I do not remember Classic Sonic having them. As I remember it, Classic Sonic only had the white stripe. Indeed, most Generations game art seems to confirm this.

So why does Classic Sonic have buckles on the statue?

Don't get me wrong, I downloaded the demo on PSN a couple of hours ago and I couldn't stop smiling. A Sonic game that made me laugh and feel real joy hasn't happened in a long time. It's just the perfectionist in me sees this inaccuracy and wonders why this mistake (as it seems to be) has been made.

EDIT: Further investigation seems to reveal that a lot of people are getting actually enraged by this, though one YouTube video is now shattering my original assumption. It would seem that Sonic has always had buckles on his shoes? Game art throughout the 20 years is being strewn in front of me in video format... but I swear some of the Generations videos have him sans-buckles. Am I going mad? Have I totally missed the buckles all these years?

Dude's always had it. Look carefully at the shoes. In case you want another example.

Most of the time the buckles are usually hidden away or just not drawn on. They were never added on the sprites for being such a small detail, but he's always had it, least with the Japanese art.

Yeah, cheers for this. I've had a look around properly and I can see now that he was always meant to have buckles, but I never saw them. I was a MegaDrive Sonic fan, and these boxes and this title screen have a lot to do with it. Couple that with them never being drawn in-game until after Sonic & Knuckles and my confusion is now explained.

I'm OK with the buckles now, I think. But it will always, always be Dr. Ivo Robotnik.
