War so serious?

So, I'm thinking of picking up BF3 in the near future, but I've run into a major problem with this that kept me from actually downloading the BF3 beta a while ago (I ended up just saying "gently caress it.")

The problem is Origin.

I'm behind a University VPN. Very fast, very stable, but the problem is that, well, it's a VPN, so Windows shows that I'm not connected to the internet. Origin apparently just looks there and goes, "whoops, says you're not online. gotta be online!" But, of course, I can't be "online" in that sense. Literally no other program has an issue with this.

Is there a way to fix this? Most of the stuff I've seen on the EA forums so far include doing really batshit stuff, including running Origin off of a virtual box that runs Vista, clawing into your internet settings, etc. But I doubt any of that will deal with the issue of the VPN, which means I don't think it'll deal with the issue of Origin going every time I try to connect, which means I can't (I guess?) play BF3.

I looked through the OP and didn't see a mention of it besides playing BF3 via Steam. Would this fix it?

I played with the IR scope for a day because I felt it's really awesome and gives me the edge, but then I realized it dulls my skill, because instead checking the environment and engaging in gun fights I was camping on one spot and looking for orange pixels...

On the other side, I don't think it needs nerf, only more realism to it (not seeing through smokes for example).

Seeing through smoke is one of the things it's supposed to do. Fire on the other hand.

Thats normal Conquest mode, the B2K original trailer showed Karkhand in "conquest assault" which looks more like the classic BF2 map (although it had one less control point).

Its kind of funny to see 8 diamonds right next to each other with no indication as to which one is which control point. And you thought it was bad with 5 in Conquest Large maps...

When you know the maps, it's easy to know witch point is being caped.

It's a permanent upgrade so basically some dude who has it unlocked can run up to your tank and jump into it even if you don't have it. Of course, the game doesn't tell you that they're in your tank; you have to go into third-person and notice that the tank says [3/2].

Now that people are starting to unlock it my mines give me 3 kills instead of 2.

A coordinated squad can get surprisingly much done on metro 64.

Recon manages to get behind enemy lines, spawn on him/beacon and backcap, 3 support rushing with 249 at the same time on the side stairs have hilarious results, especially if supported by smoke.

My experience is that Bazar servers are much better for unlocking shotgun poo poo, also you actually learn how to use them.

All the COOP weapons are cool, am I right to assume that the SG553 is basically the same gun as the Sig 552 in Counter Strike?

Some maps are nearly unplayable now if one side have a good pilot and the other don't. Being killed the moment you leave the spawn is the opposite of fun.

It's like wants us to only play metro 1000 tickets 24/7 servers.

Sometimes it helps to alt+tab out and in, I did it a lot to turn of steam and MSN because that seemed to fix it, but it turns out it was just the alt tabbing

Sandweed

War so serious?

Actually just remove the beeping that tells you when a missile is fired. Once a lock is acquired it's a constant beep until lock is broken. Then the pilot have to gamble with his flares, or abort his attack run to get out of range.

For good pilots it means knowing when to flare and when to get away. And even if you miscalculate a single stinger is not a disable anymore.

playing canals driving the LAV from B to A to C and then start over again with some friends is hilarious. Especially if you can get the amtrack in on the party, and a guy with a shotgun popping out and killing of stragglers/repairing. The guy driving the amtrack ended up with 0-0 and over 8k score.

e: Oh, cool. I was on the wrong page.

Canister if you are playing solo, guided when you have a friend lasering. I CITVed for a friend yesterday and it was glorious watching choppers fall out of the sky wherever I pointed my death laser. But it's very unrewarding points wise so pubies will never do it.

We where in a tank the entire round:

Guided weapons will never be a huge problem because of two tings:

1. Pubbies are awful at teamwork.
2. Lasering in itself is a unrewarding job so pubies will never do it.
