Before I joined here I hung out on WookWook for a while and it definitely was the better of the servers I played on. So seconded on that sentiment. Project Reality really brought out that teamwork aspect though. I've never played a game that was so dependent on keeping yourself together and calling out targets. Seriously the most hardcore game I've ever played.

Hadlock posted:Did you join SA in part because of WookWook? Well that and hearing about the EVE corp. Even though I'll probably never join the EVE corp because by the time I get the post count and get back into the game Planetside 2 will be out, the BF3 server was just as good. Lurking on this thread was probably also a factor. My favorite line is "harvesting pubbie tears". In fact my favorite past-time on this game is showing my wife the amazing feats of awfulness that suddenly explode once kids all around the USA get home from school. We like to encourage this behavior because it is incredibly easy to frustrate those horrible little shits and results in hilarious hijinks. LLJK members were also usually at the top and just better players overall. So I figured my attitude towards gaming pretty much fit everyone else here. I swear to God if my child turns into one of those spergy little pieces of crap though I will honor kill the spawn. I may be a dirty and ignorant conservative, but even we have standards.

He got 98 kills on one round of kharg, and also his name is intentionally hard to find. Holy crap the profile pic alone is reason enough. I'm betting he also uses "u mad?" and "fag" as his main mode of communication in-game as well.

Lemon Curdistan posted:Never going to happen, but so would I. I think that's why I've been getting so burned out on match shooters. Battlefield used to avoid that feeling that I was playing a "match" instead of participating in a battle, but this one just doesn't have the magic anymore. I'm hoping the natural large battles and persistent nature of Planetside 2 will keep the same thing from happening...but I'm thinking any game that has anything to do with an FPS moniker is tainted forever by the stain of lovely little twelve year old's whose parents simultaneously buy their little spoiled brats "M" rated games and blame those same games for the downfall of society in the same breath. The only thing those living income tax breaks are good for are trolling and reminding me how NOT to be a parent.

Just watched the Ziba Tower trailer. That has to be the most awful looking map I've seen to date. I would bet money this is because so many people are playing those drat 24/7 Metro servers. gently caress those people, gently caress 'em.

How about they forgo designing lovely corridor maps and just release DLC that unlocks all the new attachments and weapons while giving those of us who play Battlefield for a Battlefield experience larger maps.

Propaganda Hour posted:SQDM really is the worst thing in this game. It's that same frustrating feeling when you get shot in the rear end and killed, but constantly, and for 20 minutes. Even playing MW3 during the free Steam weekend was more entertaining then the version of SQDM. Battlefield is not meant to be played in close quarters combat...and yet that's what they're doing for the next DLC pack.

Anti-air has just been frustrating for me. When I get someone putting up a SOFLAM it's absolute heaven but even then 1/2 my javs don't hit because of the pilot deploying flares or countermeasures. I understand air needs to have a purpose and survive, but with how dumb pubbies are something tells me air won't have any trouble being relevant. If anything it'll just keep the number of godlike streaks from helicopters down.

Shumagorath posted:Why should this be the case? It's not that hard to become a competent pilot and now the cannons just shred everything. We're back to BF2. I agree, I suck at jets but started to get better with them before this patch. It's not that hard to learn or ask others if you're having trouble. Heck I figured out how to turn sharper using the throttle on my own. Of course there are some times when you get sperglords who are really good and will rule the skies, but it's not like it ruined the game beforehand. Now...I dunno...I've given up on this thing. There are other, better games coming out soon so I just have to bide my time. Here's hoping for Planetside 2!

My favorite way to piss off the recons who don't play to the class is choosing smoke grenades on my assault and shooting them right in front groups of them doing nothing at all except staring down the scope. They can't do anything about it, and they're forced to move up. I feel like a sheep dog.

Spartan421 posted:I have been wondering this since BC2. Besides the obvious answer of there probably being a bunch of high rankers on the opposite team, I have a theory that it boils down to the extreme motivation of just one or two guys. Most people are content to sit back and relax and rack up cheap kills. I think all it takes is one or two dudes that want to win and assume personal responsibility for it. Since the rest of their team can no longer just sit idly by since the battle moves forward, they also start to play aggressively in the name of more kills. This takes the other team by surprise since most of them are also just sitting back and camping and then they lose the initiative and start to get steamrolled. It's pretty hard to reform your line after that since people are now dying and spawning in all sorts of places now. An interesting experiment to try is to equip smoke on the M320 and go on Damavand Peak. Literally half my team were recons content to sit back and snipe. I got sick of it and started smoking them out from behind their hiding spots. They would run in front of the smoke and take up new positions closer to the action. I would love to say it made a difference and we won the round, by my only consolation was pissing off the lovely pubbies who don't want to do anything. It was like my smoke clouds were the mouse on an RTS and I was ordering them deeper in to the mine.

Just had the most blatant hacker ever on a server I was just playing on. So I'm just sitting behind a rock on Noshir Canals when out of nowhere I die to a .44 Revolver. I look on the minimap and there are about 16 other skulls indicating other friendly deaths. Turns out some idiot used a hack to take out 17 people all at once. He then went on to respond to all of us by spamming a macro in the chat about how one of our tanks was hacking.

Lemon Curdistan posted:The actual Battlefield players don't give two shits about the SP and are probably a lot happier about BF3 than they were about BC2. I actually enjoyed BC2 more for some reason. The only concrete reasons I can come up with are that the maps in that game were tailor made for 32 players (for the most part) and I liked most of the maps. Playing BF3 I can instantly tell half the maps in the rotation were meant for something other than 64 players. The upcoming expansion certainly won't help either. Not to mention the standard ticket count means really short matches. I have to search for servers that use 600-1000 tickets to actually get a game that goes back and forth instead of a 10 minute stomp. It's obvious people really enjoy the smaller matches and corridor shooting in this engine so I'm most likely the minority nowadays.

Even though I'm not interested in the Close Quarters Map Pack this might actually still be a good purchase. Good thinking EA, this may be what gets me to play a game I haven't touched for 2 months.

Mr. P posted:It kind of is directly punishing people when Premium members get to skip ahead of them in queues. Less directly, the Premium Battlelog features and how all future special events are Premium only. Yeah I kinda feel like this is becoming less a game and more a money machine. It's stopped being fun and started turning into CoD. I know how stereotypical and cynical that sounds but reading all the stuff that's happened along with the latest expansion pack this game isn't Battlefield anymore, it's something else. Which is fine because now I've moved on to Planetside 2. Ya lost me EA/Dice, and it's all your own fault.

I'm not gonna lie I almost bought the Premium pack, but there was this nagging feeling in the back of my mind about how EA would most likely make this a giant clusterfuck or I would get screwed over somehow once Endgame came out. I just don't trust EA or Dice enough to plunk down the cash. I already feel like I got burned with BF3 in the first place.
