Been looking and missing the obvious, probably, and it looks like there are some very good pilots in the thread, so a couple of questions regarding flying: 1 - while in a jet/heli, is there a way to to look behind you, any way? 2 - while in a jet/heli, when someone locks onto you, what do the different beeps/tones mean? Is there a way to see when someone actually lets the missile loose - does the tone change? What would be the best time to drop flares?

Cool, thanks, this really helps. I've been trying to figure the beeps out, but with no way of seeing what's going on around the plane and matching it with the beeps it's nigh impossible.

Great job - now my BF3 sits on a black screen every time a map changes. Just sits there, after the round results go away, and does nothing. Nothing appears. I had not a single problem before the patch. I have to kill the process, and re-enter the server. WHAT THE gently caress, MAN.Also, a question, - does SOFLAM give me any points (e.g. spotting, etc.) when it designates targets autonomously?

I simply don't have time to play hundreds of hours to unlock everything (like you say - work, etc.), plus I'm all for instant gratification and quick action - and this brings back memories of de_dust. I've gotten to frag rounds on the first 2 shotties within the last 2-3 days, and also Metro 24/7 servers allow you to go up in ranks FAST. Just play support and rack up ridiculous amounts of resupply ribbons and medals, while unlocking poo poo for shotguns and PDWs. My record so far is 25 resupply ribbons in a single 400 point round. Just don't go into 1000 point Metro servers - if your team gets rolled, you get rolled hard, and getting spawn-raped for half an hour is not fun.

What's the consensus on the slugs for shotties in BF3? I remember reading that slugs were like sniper rounds for shotguns in BC2 - is it the same in BF3? As far as damage goes, is it: buckshot < flechette < frag < slug ?

Scags posted:How do people feel about the MAV? I have been using it but I am not sure I'm making an impact. Do you guys notice when there is one around? I find it a relaxing and fast way of ranking up, surveillance ribbons (and medals) keep rolling in, plus you can do it on pretty much any server no matter how high your ping is there. And it actually looks and sounds very cool, with MAV's thermal optics and War Tapes on surround headphones, it's like watching war footage.

Thread's huge - looked through many, many pages, didn't quite find the answer... So I just unlocked Javeline for Engies and Guided Shells for MBTs. I also got a SOFLAM. I keep reading these "and I kept shooting everything from another end of the map beyond horizon" stories, but it doesn't seem to work that way for me. So, questions: 1 - do I need a line of sight to shoot anything with a guided shell/Javeline IF it's being lased by SOFLAM? 2 - how far do I need to be to be able to shoot the lased target? Do I have to be within normal distance, or can I be further away? 3 - do I still need to lock onto target if it's lased - or does lasing replace that, and I can basically point and shoot? 4 - does SOFLAM left in autonomous mode lase targets still? Can I do the following: a) put up a SOFLAM, point it in the general direction where tanks come from b) get in a tank, wait for SOFLAM to lase tanks, shoot tanks with guided shells?

Ordering Back to Karkand question: I didn't get in on the Limited Edition thing for BF3 itself, so I ordered B2K a few days ago. Got a confirmation email, but the order itself is not shown either in Origin itself or on EA store website. My CC wasn't charged either. With the EA/Origin store websites being so loving half-assedly done it's not even funny, I can't even find a place to enter the order number from the confirmation email to check whether it went through at all! So, 1 - does B2K show up in the list of games in Origin once you ordered it, as a separate game? 2 - is there an activation code for it that I should've received (order confirmation email doesn't contain it. In fact it doesn't contain a few things it specifically mentions, like "click on one of the links below" with no actual links below) First time I ever try buying something available purely by download only, and this happens. This poo poo's broken

Paisano posted:So I am debating buying this game but I have heard a ton of Origin horror stories. Is it really that bad? Then, I got emailed back by an EA CSR just 2 hours after I've submitted a support request, they confirmed that the order went through, and the order appeared everywhere right as B2K was released/unlocked (and my Battlelog page updated itself to have it, too). Plus the CSR gave me a discount code for I think 15% off my next Origin purchase as a way of apologies. So I have to say this, to be fair, - they fixed the problem, and did it quite quickly. First time I bought anything strictly downloadable, too. Pretty happy now. At the same time I gotta say that the un-unified, disjointed way their systems are set up, with multiple parts not knowing what the gently caress, is really loving stupid, and I wouldn't be surprised if they did make many logistical/billing errors.

A BIG loving BLUNT posted:A good way to grind unlocks for jets is to hit up the practice servers. They're usually not as heavily populated so you won't get blasted into oblivion by ground units, and most of the pilots are usually just as bad as you are (you'll be bad at first) At one point I just realized there's no way I'm even going to reach any good unlocks the regular way, flying against people who spend most of their in-game time in a jet. I don't normally fly jets anyway, and I don't pretend that I'm ever going to get as good, but at least if I do get in a jet, I don't have to keep flying super-gimped.

Question - does laser painter on helis/jets paint stuff for you to use your own guided missiles on? For example, if I'm in a Little Bird, and I got the laser painter and the guided missile selected, does having the laser painter have any sort of a beneficial effect on: 1 - how quickly my own guided missile locks on, and 2 - how far it locks on from?

Mr Beens posted:Sorry, I should have been clearer - I only have 7 suppression assist ribbons. I get suppression assists all the time Easy step-by-step guide: 1 - combine the following: - suppression perk - any LMG, using a bipod preferred, extended mags help a lot - Metro 24/7 server, playing as defenders 2 - set up with a bipod behind a nice piece of cover overlooking a chokepoint - side stairs on the right at B are perfect. I usually set up on a corner by the pillar above the 2nd set of escalators, 3 meters away from the actual B flag. That way you don't have to lie down, and you can still watch over the 2nd escalators. 3 - unload towards enemy coming up the side stairs, until you run dry. Doesn't matter if you can't see them - they are there, right around the corners and/or below your line of sight. Keep reloading and repeating. Drop an ammo pack after each reload. You won't get that many kills - unless attackers somehow manage to kill the crowd of defenders congregating right next to the stairs, that's when they walk right into your wall of bullets. Your teammates will kill all the attackers while you're suppressing the absolute gently caress out of them, - and you'll get your assists and thus ribbons. You get a ribbon every 7 assists done in the same round, so Metro is perfect for this.

Before and just after that things were surprisingly okay for a battlefield release. Better than early BC2 for sure. Is Dice actively making this game lovely or what? And then the 1st patch came out, and it had begun - horrendous load times, random disconnects, BSODs, the black screen of Forever Loading... on map changes, CTDs, gradually increasing stutter the longer you keep playing until the point where computer just stops responding (is there a major memory leak or something?), etc. etc. etc.. I love this game, but with patches the performance has been getting a lot worse, and it's been taking more and more time just simply connecting to a server.
