IT Guy posted:On an unrelated note, does anyone know of a dedicated alarm clock that does this type of stuff (wakes you up in a light sleep). Gentle Alarm. No motion sensing, which I'm skeptical about anyway, never did much good back when I used it, instead it plays a very quiet sound half am hour before your actual alarm time, the idea being if you are I'm a light sleep phase, you'll hear it and wake up, if you aren't, you'll stay asleep and wake up at the regular alarm. Apparently sleep cycles last roughly half an hour light, half an hour heavy, so it you sleep through the pre-alarm, you'll be in a light par when the heavy one rolls around. I dunno about that one way or the other, but it IS a solid alarm clock app.

IT Guy posted:Just looked this up, I'll definitely give it a try. I don't know how I feel about the motion sensing yet. I've only used it one night and maybe it was a coincidence but I did wake up better this morning. Another bonus, if you have Tasker, it has built in support for Gentle Alarm, so you can set up events for when an alarm starts/is snoozed/is dismissed.

Splizwarf posted:More importantly, as far as I know, in the US it's always legal to record anything you want (except in government buildings, thanks, Patriot Act!), although you can be thrown out of private buildings if they don't want you to do it inside (taking photos of prices in stores is a good example: they can't have you arrested but they can show you the door; same with camming a movie in the theater or flash photography in a museum). The laws against recording without notification are only concerned with the recording's legal status as admissible evidence in a courtroom. You can record anything you want for personal use. As far as I know, the only exception is the police in California, who cannot be recorded in any way for any reason including personal use (thanks, Rodney King!). Never mind then lol

The Law posted:The U.S. federal law allows recording of phone calls and other electronic communications with the consent of at least one party to the call. A majority of the states and territories have adopted wiretapping statutes based on the federal law, although most have also extended the law to cover in-person conversations. 38 states and the D.C. permit recording telephone conversations to which they are a party without informing the other parties that they are doing so. So, if you don't live in one of those states, you should be in the clear.

I thought it did that already... then again, I haven't used the stock app in forever. I dunno about any apps specifically for that, but I figure you could do it in tasker, if you have it (you should). Haven't tried it, but I'd assume it'd require a custom variable, say "unread", initialized to false. When you get a text, one task sets unread to true. Another task monitors unread, and if true, starts a loop of "Vibrate Alert, then wait x minutes" until unread is set to false. One more task would set unread to false whenever the messages app is opened. Might work, might not.

Would anyone know of a better way to customize the long press functionality on the search button? Maybe it's silly, but I HATE the menu that pops up with the options for it, but I want to use more than just one item for it I tried LaunchKey, but it only supports launching apps and/or system toggles, none of the quick options like Handcent quick compose, FriendCaster quick post, etc.

So, not sure if it's sure to using CM7 instead of stock, or if it's from using setCPU, but after rooting and putting those on my phone, I've stopped having a very frustrating issue, where any time I left my phone in my pocket for more than 10 minutes or so, it'd overheat and wouldn't turn on without a battery pull. Now? No such problem

I'll go ahead and try to get ahold of the developer to make them aware of the issue, but for the meantime, I need a functioning alarm to get up for work so I'll install Alarm Clock Xtreme. Just swapped myself, and I'd assume it'd be as simple as creatine a second alarm 30 minutes before the main one, which would only vibrate and would auto dismiss after x minutes.
