Dooky Dingo posted:2nd: Why is no one considering the goth-loli? This girl has said on multiple occassions that "you have to adapt to this world" and stuff like that. She has shown the most flexibility in conforming to the rules of the game, wouldn't it make the most sense for her to be the first killer? Also, she seems the most calm and collected besides the detective chick to go around behind herself and clean up all the evidence. Everyone else is too impetuous. This is why I discounted her as a suspect, really. She's the gambler, so of course she's calm and collected--poker face. Doesn't mean anything one way or the other. The kicker is that she's seemed to suspect that there's always extra rules to trip up the students. Knowing that, I get the impression she'd let someone else try first. She might be a killer later, or not, but I don't think she's going to be the first to try to adapt without knowing what to adapt to. You do have a good point about the killer being careful enough to clean up the place being a good element to rule out some suspicions. If I look at it like that, my options look like... Hall Monitor, Mystery Girl, and Gambler. And of that list, Hall Monitor is the one who stands out.

orenronen posted:Yeah, blame that on my translation skills. The Japanese does seem to mimic the style of autopsy reports (not that I've ever seen a Japanese autopsy report, mind you), and since the closest I got to one in English is a couple seasons of ER, I'm just not good at mimicing the style. Not that anything on American television is probably a good indicator of actual crime/medical drama but I got what Monobear(you) were trying to say but maybe with a slightly easier to understand twist like they do on shows like CSI and Law and Order. Saying someone got stabbed in the stomach is a lot easier to picture in your mind than a puncture wound to the abdomen. I don't mind if you use the simpler terms (it actually fits with Monobear's character to not take this stuff that seriously and to provide reports to the kids that they can read). So you can just say "slash" rather than "laceration" or "bruise" rather than "contusion" and so on. Unless there's actually a point about the kids not understanding what a report is saying, then feel free to use some complex medical jargon. Edit: Also I think the 80 replies is a sign that a huge draw of this thread is the back and forth of us going over the evidence and taking wild leaps at guessing who's going to die/who's going to kill. We're all putting ourselves in the situation and trying to be detectives too, it's a lot of fun. We spend the time between updates making our guesses (maybe with some debate, like I assume the trial is going to be like) and then your update comes and we find out if we were right or not. SUPER HIGH SCHOOL LEVEL SPECULATION: The Gambler is not the killer. She knows how to play high stakes games (involving entire fortunes) and the first, unwritten rule of gambling is never play until you know all the rules. She's the first one to notice the vagueness of "graduation" and is therefore more than willing to wait for further information before making a move. That's why she suggested the "Don't go outside at night" rule: not for other's safety, but for her own until she could find all the rules for the game. She's also the first one to read the Monobear file: while this could mean that she's pointing out her scapegoat first, why would she bother? She was just told there's a time limit for gathering evidence, and as the student best able to adapt, she'd instead not say anything: her "opponents" in the game are going to find out soon enough that the Idol was killed in Naegi (Luck's) room, why point that out early and give them time to realize its a set-up? The Gambler did not kill the Idol. Edit: After looking over my guesses, it occurs to me that I only pinpointed like, 2 people as killers which is not enough to get through the game (unless one person kills multiple people to eliminate witnesses), so I'm going to go ahead and say the Gambler kills someone, but not this time! The Wrestler, Hacker, Swimmer, Writer, and Fortune Tellers are not the killer. The Wrestler wouldn't need a knife with which to murder the Idol, nor the sword to overpower her. The Hacker, Swimmer, and Writer would need the knife, however if the Idol got the jump on them it is unlikely that they'd escape. Since we generally believe that the Idol had the knife, it's unlikely that the Wrestler, Hacker, Swimmer, or Fortune Teller were the killer. In fact, the Wrestler will be killed (with a weapon obviously, likely backstabbed),the Hacker will live (saved by her young age), the Swimmer will die (snuffed) and the Fortune Teller will die (easy target). The Writer will attempt murder. The Heir is not the killer, and will live, because in reality shows the jerk rear end in a top hat who everyone hates always stays forever. The Baseball Bro is not the killer this time, but he will, once there are fewer people (and thus fewer people to justify damning to death) left, attempt to kill someone. He definitely wants to get out, but not bad enough to kill...yet. He has to fester a bit more. The Goon might have done it: he'd be the easiest for the Idol to lure into her (Luck's) room, and he'd be an easy target for her to do the whole "seduce into embracing then stab the gently caress out of him" trick. He might have seen the knife when she pulled it out and used his bulk to overpower her. If he's not the killer now, he will live forever because he's annoying, creepy, and I hate him. The Model is who I most suspect. In fact, I'm willing to go so far as to say she tried to "strike a deal" with Monobear: her last words make it seem like she's been betrayed, and Monobear seems like exactly the type to make a shady deal, then totally gently caress over whoever her made the deal with both so he gets an excuse to kill somebody and can lord over how "morally superior" he is by punishing the dealer. The Model might have have offered Monobear money or something in exchance for a tip or warning about the Idol: he can appear anywhere, anytime, and knows how to open the shower door: who's to say he didn't open it FOR the Model so that the Idol couldn't escape safely into the shower and live, thus ruining his game? If I'm getting all meta, the Model being the killer also fits well with the "Free Time" mechanic: if anyone else is, once they're "punished" (killed, presumably) you potentially miss out on 2 whole characters' backstory, as opposed to just 1 if she's the killer. ALSO: why isn't anyone but ??? investigating the crime scene? Where IS everyone else? Also also, who was that dude that Monobear killed in the opening video? That and it seems about half the students don't care (Sakura, Mondo, Yasuhiro, Chihiro, and Touko) and will just go with whatever the group agrees on in the end. And, well Monobear LOVES to kill people in inventive ways. So that just leaves questions: who was that, and why was monobear killing him? Well, it wasn't anyone we've met so far (going with Hairstyle as the distinguishing feature of most characters). And there's LOTS of reasons monobear might kill someone. But the video seems so disconnected from everything else we've seen, we don't really have any strands to speculate on. I mean, I can pull some random things out of thin air: 1) Someone from the "real" school. This shows Monobear while he's killing someone who was in the school before, as part of taking over the place for his dispair game. 2) This is what "graduation" is. But with nothing to go on, I have a feeling we won't be able to REALLY speculate on that video for a little while.

Finally caught up with this thread. One thought: The Heir's (Togami) statements have been inconsistent. During the post-murder meeting, he raised the question of whether the culprit would go free, and acted surprised that the culprit must not let other people find out who did it. "If one of us really is the killer, will that person now graduate the school...?" Except that in the original discussion of the rules, he personally observed that http://forums.somethingawful.com/sh...4#post397517469 "...it probably means if you want to graduate, you must kill without anyone finding out." The other person that took part in this conversation is Maizono. And literature girl, but she was freaking out. I like PhysicsFrenzy's explanation. My hypothesis is that Maizono and Togami both grasped the implications of 'murdering without anyone finding out', and both realised that the examination of the *second clause* of the rule meant that the other was considering the technicalities of carrying out the murder. Therefore each would consider the other as key candidates as victims. Maizono gained access to our hero's room. She sought to murder Togami, thinking she can pin it on Naegi, given that if the victim is found locked in the bathroom (which only Naegi knows how to open), then Naegi would be the prime suspect. And Naegi can be expect to cover for Maizono. However her intended victim in turn killed her instead. Additional evidence for Togami is the hair thing - removing of the hair means the hair is strong evidence, and that would be only the case if the person has an unique hair colour and length. That narrows down the field substantially. The slashes and scratches seem artificial. Someone wanted to make it seem like there was a more substantial fight than there was. EDIT: Anyway everything about this murder suggests a cool coldness to it, to be able to recover one's wits after Maizono tries to kill you, and clear up the evidence, and then return to your room. Togami's got that feel, plus the distinctive hair colour, plus the understanding of the rules that he's trying to hide, plus the 'honourable rich boy' appearance that might make Maizono think she can trick him. I think it's him. Fangz fucked around with this message at Nov 27, 2011 around 19:42 |

Well, everyone's hair is pretty different in colouration and length... I think to get something from that particular clue, you'd have to look at why someone -noticed- they lost hair and did something about it. Why remove hair? Because you noticed you lost some in the fight. How do you lose hair in a fight? It gets tugged on, or cut by a sharp knife. What kind of hair is most likely to get tugged on or cut in fights? Long hair! The kind that gets in the way! It's only a hypothesis, but it should narrow down the field. So... who has long hair among the students? Junko Enoshima - The Fashion Girl Celestia Ludenberg - The Gambler Yasuhiro Hagakure - The Fortune Teller Kyouko Kirigiri - The ??? Touko Fukawa - The Author Sakura Oogami - The Wrestler Out of these, I'm gonna go with Junko being the killer, due to the clumsy nature of the murder (it took a while to kill Maizono, indicating that both victim and killer weren't very experienced at fighting, or had a solid one-shot, one-kill plan in mind other than 'murder Mai', automatically excluding Kirigiri, Ludenberg and Oogami). Honestly, it sort of makes sense, considering her stunned reaction to being killed, and her unwillingness to participate in the school trial. Might also be why she thought she could step on monobear with impunity, and why she seemed so surprised she was killed, since she'd already done what it had asked. I also like the theory that Maizono was trying to kill someone else (enough things point in this direction that it might or might not be true), but got the tables turned on her. For example, notice how she said "I will not open it even to you, Naegi-kun. If I do, there wouldn’t be any meaning to exchanging the rooms." in response to Naegi? If you read that right, she is commenting that opening the door to -him- would be pointless, since if she murdered him in his own room, people would have good reason to suspect her. She needed to rope in someone else for the 'murder someone in Naegi's room' plan to work. Whether or not this is true, though, I find it likely that Maizano started out with the kitchen knife (she was looking for one, after all, 'for defense'), and that her 'guest' (who she must have let in voluntarily, for whatever reason) used the at-hand golden sword and sheath to block her attacks (scratches on sheath) and disarm her (flaked-off gold on sword). Also, this is important: notice how Maizano's RIGHT hand was broken? A hard enough SMACK with even a blunt practice sword could take out a dainty girly wrist... allowing the other party to pick up the much more lethal knife. If Maizano was the one using the golden sword to fend off her attacker, surely her wrist wouldn't have ended up broken, but cut! Mmm. Anyway, to sum up: Junko Enoshima, in Naegi's room, with Maizono's knife, possibly in righteous self-defense/pressing the advantage after having been invited in and attacked by Maizono.
|
| # ? Nov 27, 2011 21:17 |
|
Junko has no reason to accept an invitation from Maizono, however. It would in fact appear downright weird for Maizono to appear in the middle of the night and ask for her to come to Naegi's room. If the turnaround theory is correct it needs to be someone that: Maizono thinks she can beat, possibly with element of surprise. (Remember, she's stronger than she looks.) Someone with enough confidence in their abilities to not be likely to involve anyone else. Someone with enough chivalry or prior trust with her to not just ignore her. Someone who dislikes Naegi enough or at least had enough of contact with him to make a fight between him and Naegi plausible. So I think it's more likely to be a male culprit. Or our mysterious level ??? - though I think that unlikely. Also if it was long hair, since long hair would be easy to pick out on its own, I don't think the roller would be needed. I think Togami is most likely, though the delinquent is also possible. Fangz fucked around with this message at Nov 27, 2011 around 21:58 |

We know, after all, that the Super High School was not always a crazy murderhole, and unless this is an entirely new place that just happens to be exactly like the old high school in every way, that means that Monobear would have to eliminate the faculty.
