An iOS port is the most likely (if it happens at all) assuming that Spike Chunsoft gives the game an effort port instead of just wrapping up a PSP emulator. They'd just need to hire a translator, proofreader and someone to photoshop plot-important art (BLOODSTAIN FEVER comes to mind) since messing with the code would probably be a non-issue if unicode was being used for text storage. There's also the VA issue but I've seen a handful of well-received iOS games with purely Japanese VAs, so I hope that's not a dealbreaker. Given that iOS is a major gaming platform now I really hope it happens.

PhysicsFrenzy posted:I hope so. Some of the best parts of Dangan Ronpa, for me at least, are the unique and refreshing design choices, character designs included. If they half-rear end the character designs (which from the looks of the trailer, they did, through removing the over-the-top elements that gave the designs their characteristic spark and then doing the design equivalent of copy-and-pasting from DR1), it almost cheapens the whole deal. Of course, the trailer only showed five of the character designs in great detail. That's about a third of the cast. Perhaps they're holding back the more extravagant character designs for later. As mentioned before, some of these designs may be tweaked in the final release to add further personality. While watching the trailer, I grabbed a shot of what looks like a map of the student dorms for the second game. They appear to be marked by similar "head sprites" that the rooms in the first game were, which may give us an idea of what sorts of characters to expect. (WARNING: Contains DR2 info. Direct link provided for spoiler safety.) http://i157.photobucket.com/albums/...rnil/dr2map.png DR2 Speculation:Looks like the second game will be starting with sixteen students right from the start. I wonder if they're keeping the Super High School-Level title gimmick from the first game? In that developer interview that was posted toward the start of the LP, they mentioned there were a few title ideas that didn't make it into the first game (such as musician and entomologist). Maybe some of those will end up in the sequel.

Maybe they'll change it sooner or later.

I'm really hoping that Asahina and Sakura will stay alive to the end. But with the game only half way through I think they're both going to die in the same chapter. My guess will be Asahina getting attacked and Sakura taking the blow for her. She'll die and then Asahina will either break down and kill the murderer or commit suicide.

There's an iOS game whose name escapes me (i swear it was Finger of Greed but that name's not turning up anything) which gives you a 2D top down view of a vault full of treasure with various Indiana Jones style traps flying around. The goal is to quickly tap the treasure without having your finger touch any of the other crap onscreen. It was decently fun and I can see the same mechanic working for the trials once the white noise lines start popping up, as long as the amount of white noise is increased a bit.

Maybe that's why the DR2 characters seem to resemble our motley crew so much- Monobear II's nostalgic, or maybe can't let go of his/her past. So I bought Project Zomboid today and after a little while of playing something happened that seriously freaked me out. Listen to this piece of music from the game, about 40 seconds in. Sound familiar? It's the chanting from the end of Leon's execution! What on earth happened here? Is it a stock chant that ended up in both games? I gotta say, hearing that out of nowhere scared me more than any number of zombies.

Dangan Ronpa's soundtrack in particular is probably full of little samples. I'm especially curious where the uh... beat-singing (or whatever you'd call it) in that same execution scene came from. The bit that goes "Ra-ba-ba-ba ba-dum" and so on. It fits so well that you'd think they created it just for the game, but who knows.

I don't get what you mean by "the FPS thing". You're talking about the first mini-game? Where all the students are talking and you "shoot" the wrong thing? If so, there's no looking around (or at least I didn't think so) - the camera is automatically moving and you have to hit it at the right moment. The only "control" you get is to fast-forward dialogue you've already seen. edit: Oh wait, you mean the thing where you wander around the school looking for students to talk to and evidence? That seems really easy on a touch screen - with just dragging and hotspots. Honestly, DR looks like it'd work better on a touch-screen device/tablet than a (non-Vita) PSP. slowbeef fucked around with this message at Apr 30, 2012 around 14:38 |

slowbeef posted:I don't get what you mean by "the FPS thing". You're talking about the first mini-game? Where all the students are talking and you "shoot" the wrong thing? Well, you do still have to aim the cursor. So the skills required are both proper aim and timing the bullet travel. There's also the mechanic of eliminating the noise words (or whatever they were called) that block your shot, but it doesn't seem like that's been necessary so far. An iOS port, I expect, would basically just reduce the skill requirements to timing the bullet travel and effectively remove aiming by letting you click where you want to fire. You'd still have to "aim" where you put your finger, but that's such a basic motor skill that it wouldn't really increase the difficulty for most people. I'm not sure how they'd handle the bits of noise, though, since it seems like something you'd need multiple buttons/input methods for. Either way, I'm sure they could remove the cursor aiming aspect and not really lose anything. It's not like maintaining that exact difficulty level is an essential part of the game, anyway. It revolves much more around style and art and theme than any aspect of the gameplay. MoonwalkInvincible fucked around with this message at Apr 30, 2012 around 14:47 |

Aiming is difficult in a way that's not directly reproducable on a touchscreen. The target shakes, for one thing, and doesn't stay put if you don't move it, so unless you use one of the skills that stabilizes it or make its movement slower it can get pretty tricky to shoot the moving targets. The bullet also takes time to "reach" its target, so you can push the shoot button when the cursor is over your target only to have it gone by the time the bullet finishes its motion (there's a skill the makes that faster as well). When the action elements start getting really tough, it requires a considerable skill to shoot without using the very limited slow motion "concentration" mode.

Even that considered, it's still a lot better than using an analog stick to aim. Have the targets shake. "Shooting" games - and I mean rail shooter style, not FPSes - are a lot more doable on touchscreens than gamepads. Mice and lightguns are the best, but I don't know where anyone's getting "it's hard to aim on a touchscreen" from. It's not. You just don't use a cursor. Touch where you wanna shoot and the bullet follows. edit: Oh cool, the trial's starting! slowbeef fucked around with this message at Apr 30, 2012 around 17:33 |

First, I want to see the bodies.
Dead bodies tell no lies. Compared to the living, they're much more reliable at leading us to the truth.
...Don't you agree?
I... wouldn't really know...

Yamada-kun... Ishimaru-kun...

The Monobear file is correct... They were both killed with a similar weapon...
Before listening to Kirigiri's conclusions, we can hear what our loyal guards have to say. Sakura has the same case summary dialog, which leaves us with...
Kirigiri-chan... Doesn't she get scared, searching the bodies like this...?

Naegi-kun, I finally found something...
You aren't very observant, are you. Don't you like other people?

Hey, you bastards! How long were you thinking to keep us waiting?!!

Yesterday evening, someone pushed a strange note under my door...

Why did Ishimaru-kun clutch a torn piece of paper so tightly?

Fun, fun, fun! Our school trial is about to begin!!
Well, then. Let's go.

We don't intend to go along with your jokes...!

Let's go...

Hagakure... You can't escape anymore... You're going to be punished for what you did...
But I told you... I'm not the culprit...!
Did you find a second costume? Or maybe that note you mentioned?
No... I couldn't find either...
Too bad... I guess our job is easy this time.
U...uuu...!

She's right. Let's first start the trial. Then we can discuss everything...

Monobear's attitude... He is making fun of us to the end...
Let's hurry! Hagakure must pay for his crimes!

Hey, Mako-chin, let's get going!

Upupu... When I see you all gathered here like this...

Huh? Why do you all hate me so much!? I'm so cute!
For how long do you intend to mock us like that? Let's get things rolling..
...Don't worry, we're about to begin!
So let's start! Please go the the chair with your name on it!

What do you think? I changed the wallpaper! Isn’t it fresh? Aren’t you excited?
