I think the most important mystery so far is why Swimmer McFanservice is constantly shown with donuts in artwork but hasn't eaten a single one yet. If we figure that out, all the game's mysteries will fall into place

It's not like the school has a built in Dunkin' Donuts (all puns intended) around here. More importantly, we haven't seen her in her swimsuit swimming, but that's also because we don't have a pool, so there.

Why would a Super High-School Level Swimmer attend a high school with no swimming pool? That's it, she's the real serial killer.

Well, clearly the swimming pool is on the second floor of the school. Or the lack of one is one of the differences between the blueprint of the first floor and where they actually are.

I'm going to predict as people get killed off, Monobear is going to open up more facilities, for no other reason than to allow the player the opportunity to find more Monobear tokens.

Well it would also provide more opportunities for "creative problem solving". I mean, think of the irony; Aoi Asahina drowned in the pool, Chihiro Fujisaki dies after being exposed to Starcraft in the computer lab and playing for five days non-stop... I'm sure there are other possibilities too.

Ironically, most of the kids special talents have been rendered all but useless since they were trapped inside the school. (Literary Girl) Touko Fukawa can't publish her books (Idol Chick) Sayak Maizono couldn't do any pop-starring (Baseball Dude) Leon Kuwata can't play any baseball (Doujin Author / Otaku Freak) Hifumi Yamada can't publish his works or get anything new to watch. (Super Swimmer) Aoi Asahina can't do any swimming (Hyper Hacker) Chihiro Fujisaki has no systems to hack into (Gang Leader) Mondo Oowada has no gang to lead (Wrestle Maniac) Sakura Oogami can't do any real wrestling (Rich Fucker) Byakuya Togami is probably cut off from his family's fortune. And I don't know the yen to monobear coin exchange rate. (Fortune Teller) Yasuhiro Hagakure probably doesn't have much of a future left to tell (Gambling Addict) Celestia Ludenberg has nobody to go high stakes against. All of the character arts show characters doing things they can't do while trapped inside the school. Also, regarding the ~secret~ phone chains - Those are probably just special Ultra S Limited Edition Holographic 3D MegaRare versions of already existing characters.

Leon used his baseball skillz to dispose of evidence, so that's at least one use right there. And you would have thought that Maizono could've used her mind-reading powers to sense when someone was about to attack her. Speaking of which, what was even the point of having all those mind-reading/good intuitions references? Total waste of time and completely meaningless following her early death.

I really like Dangan Ronpa's writing for that exact thing, killing off a character right as they started building her up was the same as punching people like me who are usually able to take apart stories and make correct assumptions way early on in the goddamn throat. The tension is completely ratcheted up, nobody is safe. Though I suspect the next few deaths will be characters that are relatively throwaway, so that they don't dilute the impact.

slouch posted:(Wrestle Maniac) Sakura Oogami can't do any real wrestling I'll grant she can't do REAL wrestling on a regular basis here, that is, against an opponent, but it's been stated she's been able to keep in shape regardless. Even so, I'd hardly say that her special talent has been rendered useless in this situation-- if someone needs to be wrestled to the floor, say, because they're trying to kill someone, she can do it.

I think that on the contrary, each student probably has an ability useful to the situation. If the hacker can gain access to the school's systems, it would be massively useful to control the cameras, the security devices, even Monobear himself. The doujin artist seems to have a good eye for detail. Note that he was the second to realise the meaning of the 'numbers', and he didn't have a chance to examine it closely. The fortune teller seems to be a good liar, or maybe just good at playing a fool. The gambler is good at playing the odds, and also hiding things. The heir is possibly connected with the construction of the place. Note the similarity of the crown in his character art, to the crown that is part of the emblem for the school. The delinquent and the wrestler are both good fighters. The literary girl is probably good at concocting plausible plotlines. Or maybe she's just ugly.

I just spent all evening catching up with this thread, and I am loving the crap out of this game so far. Especially the art style; the 3D stages with the 2D characters makes me think of the FMV Clue games from the mid-90s (which I loved playing). The fact that I'm a sucker for mystery stories and this kind of faux-visual novel style also helps a lot. I can't really throw in any speculation, though, as pretty much everything I think has been said.

So I guess I guessed it more or less correctly then? If the hacker girl hacked Monobear to kill someone, like reprogrammed him, would Monobear technically be the murderer? Or would Monobear consider himself a murder weapon?

No. It's a punishable offense to do harm to Monobear. Therefore, if Monobear happens to be mechanical (I sincerely doubt he isn't), and she could actually convince him to let her mess with his programming (a feat in and of itself, since she could use that as leverage over him), Monobear could be considered the ultimate weapon, since no one can fight against him.

I thought I was much closer to the end of the chapter, but I forgot how much dialog is in this thing. I don't want to split this up, so you're getting a very long update next. The good news is that it's translated, the video is recorded, and screenshots were taken. All that's left is composing the post, but that alone is a few hours' work... I foresee an explosion in reply numbers after it's posted.
