Can you please explain how they work then? I know that they land on parts of the screen varying on the strength of the move, but it's still really ambiguous if you space it right. Every skrull player I have seen will eventually just go for it out of the blue and it's a coin toss if you're locked down or doing something

Brett824 posted:Also Neo had already won a bunch of high stakes money matches vs. veteran players. In terms of crowd villification, neo was a guy from the east coast playing on west coast turf. They split up the crowd into cheering sections so most of the room joined clock's side, including people that haven't even watched an mvc2 match before. I think there was like at least a 4-1 ratio. Neo playing lame also didn't help. Also, I heard there was a lot of trashtalking on the forums beforehand, which prompted the whole MM.

Also, if yall liked the knives vs. noel brown matches at barfights, tune into Socal Regionals on saturday, 12-2PM PST. They're in the same pool and hopefully get to meet each other third round http://challonge.com/scrumvc36 oh look i'm in the bracket too, watch how free I will be

Skychrono posted:edit: ^^^^^^^^^ what he said Against ghost rider, use chun's wavedash to get under all his jump attacks. Ghost rider's main weakspot is below him and behind him if you can teleport. Doom can try to sj finger lasers and force Ghost rider to meet him in the air. In which case, if you land first you probably can get under his j.S. Ghost rider is a hard counter to hulk, I'd just tag him out somehow. Any hulk experts, please chime in, I have no idea what he's supposed to do here or any zoning matchup. General strategies: Vergil - most vergils do LMHSHSHSetc., pushblock the M or H and punish the whiff. Also whenever you see an assist being called, a teleport is probably close behind. Dante - know what his moves cancel into what so you know what's safe and what's not. He has a lot of startup on his moves so keep on him. Beware of a teleport that's always behind and his box jump. Frank - his slide and launcher is safe, if you can pushblock his slide, watch for a whiffed S. He is not that remarkable until lvl3 or 4, so if you can avoid his slide, he doesn't have much else. Zero - I learned this from tapebot: Use all your meters, XF, whatever to kill him. Nobody knows how to fight zero

dorkasaurus_rex posted:Has anyone here ever organized a semi-serious home tournament and actually had people show up? I'm in the NY area, by the way, so if anyone is interested in either participating or helping me set it up, you're more than welcome to. I've run some small tournaments with a mix of competitive and non-competitive players and the main tips I can give you are to find out what sort of resources you have at your disposal so you can build around that. How much money are you willing to spend? Besides payouts for the winners, consider small stuff like chips and drinks. Also consider prep costs such as paper towels and toilet paper and even air fresheners. Clean your bathroom and floors. What can your friends bring to the table? If you can get some people to bring extra setups and you can guarantee their security, you can have a smoother tournament as well as a casual station so people aren't sitting around. You can also trade your entry fee for a bag of fresh baked goods or whatever. How much space do you have? Have designated areas for fee collection, bracket inquiries, and your stream station. This is hard in an apartment, but being clear on the setup side of things will keep things looking organized. How much time do you have? Have a schedule and try to stick to it. http://challonge.com/ is a good resource to help your bracket. Get a big piece of cardboard or butcher paper and draw the bracket on it. You'll get a lot of requests on bracket status. If you have multiple setups (and you should), enforce a no casuals rule so you can keep the tournament running. Just have fun with it and don't be afraid to lay down the law since it's your place and all. I wouldn't even worry about streaming for your first time since there's a million more things that can go wrong. I would recommend a fake run through in advance so you can see what areas you're lacking.

I have lots and lots of snacks anyways (I'm a goon, after all) Oh yeah definitely check if there's any lag on your setups. You might not see any, but to be sure check this thread: http://shoryuken.com/forum/index.ph...atabase.145141/ Like 40OZ said, definitely take a trip down to Next Level. Henry Cen runs it and he is a guy that knows a thing or two about tournaments. Hit up the SRK regional matchmaking subforum to get the word out http://shoryuken.com/forum/index.ph...ents-events.96/ Maybe see if you can get in touch with Next Level to see if you can advertise. If you have any questions, feel free to hit me up on AIM/steam: eskaobar EDIT: ooh getting change is a great idea. I also like name tags too. Even if you only have a 16 man bracket (which is a good number for a small apartment), it's good to see who paid and for everyone to get to know each other. HORSEPORN posted:This isn't true at all and any team with air control (looking at you spencer with a beam assist) dominates Zero. I was watching WGF and Viscant was saying that the characters that can do well against zero are characters that can screw up zero's angles of attack. I forget who he named specifically, but taskmaster was one of them. I play taskmaster and I can say this is true at my level of play (not a very high one). Diagonal arrow zoning does very well and can be super cancelled to make safe if he gets too close. Trish seems to be a pretty good choice too.

Especially when you have jab/shorts that rapid fire. If you have problems against people who mash jab, just pushblock and/or whiff punish. X23's Ls don't have the best hitboxes, a lot of people have buttons that will beat hers. Sent/Hulk armor moves are great here Don't fight Ghost Rider with Hulk, swap your team order.

1v1, Cap/GR matchup is usually in Cap's favor. It really comes down to who has the better assists. Cap's usual movement options are jump shield throw. Ghost Rider has few options at that angle (in the air as well) except for diagonal chain grab and the chain projectiles. Those options are really slow and if predictable, Cap has options around them. If Ghost Rider throws projectiles, Cap can shield charge through them. Ghost Rider with strider vajra assist is powerful in stopping Cap and other people that are in those bad angles. The matchup is in Cap's favor if he can call a long range assist that will continue to hit after he does his jump shield throw, setting him up for another jump shield throw or whatever he needs to stay in.

dorkasaurus_rex posted:Re-asking my question from the other page because it never got answered and I wanna be good at Taskmaster Easy block string: cr.LMH Charging Star, cancelled into arrows or chopstick. Both options are safe on block(as long as you're not right up in their face) but are limited in combo options without assists. You can even cancel into launcher on reaction, if your reactions are good enough. Dash up cr.M has crazy reach, but like Nate said, most of the time you're ok with them coming to you. A max range webswing isn't always punishable on block. If the opponent doesn't know the timing to jump and airgrab, you can mash M to catch them or keep your webswing safe. There are some sneaky side-switching stuff you can do on incoming opponents, but I never really bothered with it. Taskmaster's not that good at mixups or chip, so swap morrigan for anchor.
