Anyone know if you can improve the damage of a warhammer so much through smithing that it becomes as powerful as the giants are against you at low level?

It seems my Azura Quest has glitched out a little bit; I found the mage to talk to and got the lowdown on where the Star is, and the blurb in the Journal mentions the dungeon I have to go to by name, but the quest marker is still pointing at the mage and a scan of my map shows that no new areas have been added. Even worse I can't remember if he mentioned even a general direction for where I'm supposed to go next and that dialogue tree is gone now, he only gives the general background about the Star. Can anyone point me in a direction to look for this place?

The godforsaken unable to equip spells two handed without de-equipping and re-equipping a one handed weapon is going to drive me to loving skooma. Is there any way to fix this nonsense?

I've been using a 2h hammer exclusively but I think I'm going to switch to sword. The hammers are really skinny, and the fatalities aren't as cool. Though it is fun getting the rare decapitation, more often its the kneesweep then faceplant. 2h hammer is also kind of slow, which means its tricky trying to time it to hit kiting mages and archers. I also more than once have charged (edit: sprint+power attack perk) someone and watched them dodge at the last second while I slowly swing the hammer around and momentum carries me past them and forces me to slide down a nearby slope or staircase - pretty hilarious when you flail yourself off a keep wall. Thats admittedly probably my own lack of skill and slow computer shining through. 2h sword gets a sweet fatality where you stab them in the stomach and lift. Not sure about axe as I haven't used it much.

It's true that the 2-handed hammer is slow, but what it hits, stays hit. Question: I've escaped most bugs, but I think I've got two now. 1. The merchant in Whiterun seems to have disappeared and the shop is always locked. I broke in at night but he wasn't there. 2. The last two dragons I've killed have not dissolved and I'm pretty sure I didn't get their souls. Is there a known solution to this/cause I should be aware of?

Two-handed swords get a variety of gnarly slashes and decapitations, plus a decidedly brutal abdominal impalement kill. It was one of the first canned kill animations my brother and I saw in this game, and we both let out one of those shocked/appreciative "awwwwwgh!" noises when we saw it. Hacking and slashing are all well and good, but sometimes you just want to stab the poo poo out of someone, and seeing your Sword of gently caress You +5 burst from that obnoxious necromancer's back is a pretty good catharsis. I tend to prefer swords in general, due to their higher attack speed. Some of the higher-level warhammers look rad as gently caress though.

Question about 1-handing swords. Right now I just run around with a sword and magic, but to be able to block I need to open up the quick menu and deselect the spell I have on. Is there anyway to hotkey 1-hand only with nothing in my off hand so I can block? I don't really want to use shields because I am going for a duelest-agile-stabby-burny-man.

Seems to me that swords have way kill animations than anything else. At least among one-handers. My favorite is the ol' sword-through-the-clavicle.

Some of the sword-and-shield cinematic kills are amazing. You get your share of neat little swordplay moves like well-timed stabs or a two-slice coup de grace, but my favourite is the one where you just smash them over the head with your shield, step closer while they kneel in a daze, stab them in the heart like a stone cold motherfucker, and then kick their body off of your sword. It's just so callously brutal.

so I've only been using Lydia as a companion so far. how do the others compare as far as plowing down mobs and doing other useful things? I don't think that she's very useful for much beyond just hauling my gear and running in front of me to kill things. I think I'd rather have a pocket healer if possible, are there any that do this?

I don't know what their stats are like, but different followers definitely have very different abilities and "playstyles." My wife has been trooping around with this insanely good ice-mage lady who double-fists Ice Storm all day and annihilates entire rooms by herself. It's pretty ridiculous.

Are you a priest?" when I'm healing her one more loving time I'm going to shout her off the throat of the world.

Lydia ain't bad, but in a world where no one really has unique dialogue besides.. 2 companions I can think of.. "I am swooooorn to carry your burden..." will get you loving kicked out of my entourage. Yeah I mentioned this earlier, but Swords have like 4 (that I've seen) unique finishers, then it also has the Axe and Mace ones. Axe has Axe and Mace finishers, and 1 unique. Mace just has 2 finishers. This is echoed in the two-handed weapons.

You find a way to hack someone's head off but don't jump in front of me to do it AND don't act like a bitch when I give you 300 lbs of dwarven scrap metal to haul. I hate her so much and I want a mage instead so I think tonight I'm gonna hit up mage land and find a mage to hang with me. But, the mages are going to be unable to haul my gear as efficiently aren't they?
