I'm playing a stealthy archer. Sneaking around dungeons silently sniping enemies is brilliant fun. It was tough to start with, but as soon as I got to the middle of the archery/ stealth trees and got the zoom/ bonus sneak bow damage perks, things got a lot easier! The next archery perk, Stagger, makes things much much easier too, as even if lone enemies spot you, they'll never reach you. The Throw Voice dragon shout is absolutely invaluable for sneaking around, whether it's splitting groups up or distracting people to stab them in the back, but that doesn't work on bosses/ dragons. The Lich guarding that shout had a +20% sneak, + 20% archery, +20% alchemy mask, so I'd definitely recommend stealth archers beeline for it as soon as you can take on a lich! Stealth archers really aren't very good in a straight up fight vs tough enemies or groups, even with stagger. I've got conjuration for bound weapons/ zombies/ atronachs and that helps a ton, but Lydia definitely does more damage to aware enemies than my character does. I'm splitting the rest of my perks between lockpick and pickpocket, and I'll be dabbling in one-handed and alchemy later. I'd dearly love enchantment, but can't fit it in. teacup posted:So I dunno if I'm going to be gimping myself with this, but I love the idea of stealthing/bowing/stabbing, stealing poo poo! But also CONJURING OR ENCHANTING poo poo (not destro or anything overt, just raising ghouls or ghosts or making super flame arrows and junk) I've gone sneak/archery/conjuration, have just had to turn the difficulty up at level 30ish as it's completely broken! I've chucked the upgrades into magic/health/stamina pretty much equally and there's plenty to go around. For perks, I've actually blown a huge number of them in the pickpocket tree, so you should definitely have some spare. Otherwise, I've focused almost exclusively in archery/ sneak, which has turned them from pretty mediocre to completely broken (everything dies in one hit without any idea where you are!). I've recently grabbed the conjuration perks that boost bound weapons, but nothing else. Zombies/ atronachs last long enough at 50 conjuration for my bound bow to kill everything. Unfortunately, I've not had enough perks to spare for one-handed, so my backstabs are a bit shoddy. Still kills lower level enemies in one hit, but I'm better off shooting them while they wander aimlessly. The Supreme Court fucked around with this message at Nov 20, 2011 around 11:54 |

The returns on archery increase with investing into the sneak and archery perks, so it's pretty drat good later on. I actually had to turn the difficulty up because my bound bow was just murdering everything.

I reckon it's got to be stealth based; things can't hurt you if they have absolutely no idea that you're there. It's just not fair when you get to the top levels! I've got a stealth archer with conjuration, but I'm annoyed I didn't grab enchantment- the bound bow automatically captures souls, so you'd never be short of recharges and a fully enchanted bow is probably ridiculous. Even with low enchanting, I've stuck paralyse on a couple of bows and just laugh at the odd enemy that survives the first shot and actually notices me. Either that or abuse smithing/alchemy/enchantment to break the game and create absurd gear, but that doesn't really sound fun at all.
