I've got a GTX 570, running everything on ultra with no tweaks. I'm playing over HDMI on a TV in 1080p. Yesterday, I noticed some small graphical "glitches". Details in the distance tended to pop more than what I thought acceptable - I'm thinking that I either need to increase my draw distance (it's maxed on the game's UI sliders, but I'm lead to believe you can make it further by editing config?), or make it so that stuff in the background is more faded. I also saw some shimmering of white that looks like a graphic bugs on my equipped weapons / hands while in first-person view. Anyone else with a 570 have recommended settings that they use? Should I just grab the tweaked .ini when I get home and give that a whirl?

The Whiterun house has two convenient pieces of storage right next to the alchemy table that I use for ingredients and potions, yet the Solitude manor has useless shelves and no storage containers. Was there ever a mod for Oblivion that emulated Morrowind's style of placing things? I'd give up all the fancy physics in a heartbeat if it meant I could actually put stuff where I want without worrying about the wonky physics engine ruining my painstaking decoration. A simple toggle for physics on objects would be a godsend.

There's a known problem with Skyrim crashing computers, it will immediately kill the signal to the monitor and the sound will cut out or loop a few seconds afterwards and the computer will be unresponsive. This has been reported to happen on everything from windows XP to windows 7, 8800gtx to radeon 6950, all tested recent versions of video drivers, etc. and no one seems to know what the gently caress besides that it is somehow killing video drivers and locking the computer. http://www.thenexusforums.com/index...ete-pc-crashes/ http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.ph...upcoming-patch/ This is not related to the CTD problem. If this happens to you, don't do anything stupid like gently caress around with necessary system files, and don't play the game until something is worked out because you could damage your hardware from shutting it down this way repeatedly.

If you want to just get a decent all around card you're probably better off waiting a while, since I know that at least AMD is getting ready to launch its new line of GPUs really soon. I assume Nvidia is as well. Oh, okay, I got an i7 and the rest is all crazy powerful, but I just skimped on the video card and recycled. I got an escort-a-dude-home quest, and his home was across a river. He refused to walk across the (knee-deep) river and to drop 3 feet onto a log to walk across. It's weird that he WAS okay with dropping from a good 6-7ft ledge immediately after the dungeon, but refused to do so after that. I ended up leaving him and running to his town. He automatically respawned next to me when I got close.

Well, as far as I know, this might be your best bet on getting better performance on the same card. It's the same .dll used to make Fallout: New Vegas run better at launch, too. It didn't work for me at all, though, so who knows. But yeah, you're going to be fine with an i7.

Kamikaze! posted:I doubt that is true, because it makes no sense at all. Anyway, to answer your question, add the following lines to [Controls] in My Games\Skyrim\SkyrimPrefs.ini: You're right, it does make no sense, but it appears to be true all the same. I tried the above, I even tried setting the Y scale to something stupidly high like 3.0000 but that didn't make a difference either. What did make a difference was reducing my graphics settings to prevent my framerate from dipping below 60 any time ever. Any time I was experiencing slowdown, the y sensitivity began to tank, and would pick right back up again when the framerate returned to normal, even as the x sensitivity remained unaffected the whole time. And apparently if you have a computer which can run the game at 120fps then the y axis is absurdly sensitive instead!

I'm having this problem, which I haven't seen addressed yet. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wUNwumMPZ4s ![]() Only it doesn't stop at trees. I'm getting that white-blue color where armor should be, thankfully rarely, and rebooting does fix it. I just want to know if anyone else is having the problem and has heard of any fixes. Finally, I know everyone wants to marry dragonslayer Lydia, the best follower. Apparently she's bugged, so you have to open the console, select her, then type, "addfac 19809 1". It mostly happens out in the big wide world and almost never in smaller areas like dungeons or towns. This happens in a couple of other games but never so noticeably or constantly. My Mootherboard/processor are above minimum requirements, but below recommended. Is this likely the reason? My drivers for that and my graphics card are up to date. Played 12 straight (!) hours today on ultra settings with an intel i5 and an ageing ati 5850 (haven't updated drivers in over 6 months) and the only issue I got was at one point some textures weren't loading and you get that weird shiny bluey surface someone posted earlier, but reloading the game fixed it. It actually helped me to quickly find all the mining nodes in a cave, because those textures were loading. Oh, and one random CTD. With this being a Bethesda open-world RPG having just been released I have to say I'm over the moon with that result. So yeah, varied reports. To fix flickering/strobing shadows: There are three lines in SkyrimPrefs.ini in your mygames/skyrim foldier fShadowBiasScale= iShadowMaskQuarter= iBlurDeferredShadowMask= fShadowBiasScale defaults to something like 0.3 or 0.15 Set them to something like fShadowBiasScale=10.0000 iShadowMaskQuarter=4 iBlurDeferredShadowMask=5 That works the best for me and completely gets rid of the slattng. The jerky shadows in general are due to the sun's movement every 10 seconds instead of at some less weird interval. So that can't be helped.

My laptop can get really hot playing other games but seems to stay nice and cool during this, it's possible it's just a heat issue but I doubt it. Actually come to think of it, this never happened before I got Skyrim to detect my video card (Nvidia GT 550M 1GB), never had any texture issues at all while I was running on my integrated hardware. Maybe it's a driver issue? I'm using the Nvidia beta drivers, maybe I'll try a different one and see if that helps.

Hopefully the ATi Radeon drivers are better. Skyrim would randomly crash itself along with crashing the ATi drivers. And sometimes it would just crash the drivers and pause for a minute or so until the drivers restarted. And sometimes it would give me strange artifacts and flashing textures even on the desktop until the computer has restarted. No other game has done this. My 5870 runs very cool and I have no idea what's causing it, but I'm sure it's the drivers. e:I don't want to tempt almighty fate but I think the new drivers solved it.

It should be noted, if you want perks without having to look up individual perk ids and you aren't trying to give yourself a perk you don't have the skill to add if you had a perk point, you can just level yourself up. Player.advskill [x] 99999 will put pretty much any skill up to level 100 and kick you up 5-10 levels if you use it on a skill that was at like 20. player.setav [x](skill name) # will let you put the skill back to where it was if you want to. player.setlevel will let you set yourself back to the level you were before if you want to. and last player.setav [x](health, magicka, stamina) will let you lower your stamina if you gave yourself ten levels and don't want to suddenly have 100 more HP at level 2. Or just pour it into magicka so your thief can cast destruction runes more than once every three minutes. Basically really useful if you want to do enchanting and smithing and alchemy without limiting yourself to one combat skill, but you don't want to just set your poo poo to 100 to start the game off. Oh and if you want extra dragon souls player.modav dragonsouls will add them for you.
