Is there a console command to dump a companion? I was doing the final thief guild/nightingale quest path while doing the random Companion quests to try to cure my lycantrophy. I got the quest for Vilkas to cure him while I was running back from the Nightinagle Dwemer ruin quest to unload some loot. I get the quest from Vilkas and we get out of the Companion guild hall. Immediately after I get out Vilkas just turns around and walks back in and doesn't show up at the tomb where I cured the previous Companion leader. I finished the Nightinagle quests thinking that would fix the issue but nope! Vilkas asks to be cured again after a while but does the exact same thing when I actually exit the Companion guild hall. I can't recruit a new companion either and everyone just tells me that I have someone already. Noone pops up when I try to fast travel either.

Update to a post I made earlier: Starting the game through the launcher will not override any changes made to the SkyrimPrefs.ini file. This will only happen if you go into options on the launcher window. Starting the launcher and just hitting play shouldn't change anything.

That purple missing texture thing has been going on since oblivion, it's just a bethesda quirk where it just decides not to load textures. the same thing happened to me with a dragon where it's bones were purple, the next dragon I met did not do this.

Is anyone on 360 having an issue with the lighting looking weird? Since yesterday it's seemed like the darks are too dark and the lights are overexposed, like the sky is a very bright white and not blue, and the world has much less color, also the textures have this weird glow that looks... not good.

If anyone reading this thread has been experiencing either of these issues, try disabling transparency AA, it resolved both issues for me. Wrong thread! Just to make myself look a little less stupid, for anyone having a lot of FPS issues, I would recommend downloading Gamebooster and having that enabled whenever you play Skyrim. It's what I used to use for Oblivion and as far as I can tell it's doing its duty pretty well here. Just clearing up more room for the CPU. On that note, go into your Skyrim directory and adjust TESV's properties. Under the compatibility screen check disable visual themes and desktop composition. This'll disable Aero whenever you have Skyrim open, and every little bit helps! Giggily fucked around with this message at Nov 16, 2011 around 05:04 |

Ok, I have an ATI Radeon 4800 video card with the most current drivers, 4 GB RAM. Before today, the game defaulted to high settings and everything ran fine - good framerate, no crashing. Well, I accidentally clicked "windowed mode" in the options, and even though I've gone and hit default to restore my settings, I get about 5 FPS now at the settings I had before. It works ok at lower resolutions, but it was running fine at 1920x1080 before and now it just barely chugs. Is there any way to get it back to normal?

The game likes to randomly crash every now and then, and I've already done the crash to desktop fix in the OP. I haven't figured out how to reproduce it but all of a sudden it'll just go right to the desktop and Skyrim isn't open anywhere. Good thing the game naturally saves every move I make so nothing is lost. Still annoying.

After getting tired of struggling with a gamepad (because I'm bad with them) I decided to tough it out and go WASD + mouse in this game. So far so good as long as I use WASD for the menus, but the favourites menu is still annoying me. I seem to be unable to leftclick on items to put them in my 'main' hand. Rightclicking puts them in offhand fine. Is there a modifier I need to hold, or something?

Any idea why my game would just crash to desktop instantly at what appears to be not reliably reproducable times? Yes, I have set the audio thing to 24 bit 44100Hz. I have a weird problem. Suddenly, the game has been producing a constant, low-volume, but near-omnipresent "burning" sound no matter what is happening. It only plays when I'm NOT in a menu of some sort, but it is otherwise constant and INCREDIBLY loving GRATING. I have no idea why this is happening, but I cannot get rid of it, and it doesn't seem to be related to any poison, disease, or item that I can find. It's not a horrible issue, but holy poo poo is it loving annoying. It just popped up after I left a dungeon, and now it just will not go away.

They usually play a burning sound while unsheathed, if you do have one try unequipping and reequipping it.

I do, and I've actually tried unequipping, dropping, selling... everything I can think of. None of it has worked. I'm just stuck with the constant burning sound. I also created a second character to check to see if it was universal, and it's not. It's just the character I've dumped a ridiculous amount of time into, and now even old saves (including one from level 2, well before I had any enchanted poo poo, while my current save is level 51). The only thing I can think is that enchanting poo poo bugs the game out. Maybe the patch will fix it, whenever the get around to releasing it.

Just a heads up if you're suffering massive framerate drops or freezes in outside areas (especially on XP systems), The ENBSeries Patch solved that entirely for me. I've played with it for about 4 hours without any slowdowns or weirdness, except the launcher thinking I have a different graphics card. Managed to get a couple of extra notches up the quality scale too

I can't seem to start the next quest in the Thieves quest line. It's the quest after Loud and Clear where you're supposed to go talk to Maven. I finish Loud and Clear but the next quest never shows, the quest giver goes into I'm busy, talk to me later status and Maven doesn't have the quest specific conversation option. Any console command that could work? Setstage TG03 1 doesn't do much.

Then there's the issue of crashing and general Steam overlay issues where the game doesn't start "really" fullscreen. If I put my cursor to the edges then it'll show my windows cursor and I can accidentally drag the screen around but it's fixed by alt tabbing so whatever. I had the same thing in FO:NV.
