I turned Catalyst AI back on and unchecked all the "application controlled" boxes just to see how bad the performance would be, but it actually feels like this game runs slightly better now.

I can confirm that I run firefights just fine but the driving kills my framerate and there's some nasty pop-in. Disabling Catalyst AI didn't seem to help much in SR3, but BF3 runs much better now.

My specs are:

AMD Athlon II X4 620 2.60Ghz
4 Gigs of RAM DDR3
ATi Radeon HD4800 Series

What can I mess with to get rid of the atrocious pop-in and blank draw distance? I don't care about performance at all I just don't want to feel like I'm in a 300 foot bubble. Does dropping down to DX9 help this poo poo?

Any time I try accessing the boat and plane storing cribs, it basically loads automatically whatever plane the cursor lies on for half a second, kind of a weird bug and I have no idea why it's happening. Maybe because it's preloading them and just going "here you go"

Isn't "Post Processing" just Motion Blur? I fiddled around a bit today and after turning it off I could find no difference in image quality besides the over-the-top blur AND I was able to crank AA up to 4x. That was after getting horrendous FPS on my ATI card up until now.

I've run into a glitch with my save file: Although I've gone through the entire game there is a crib, Safe Word I -should- have unlocked somewhere along the way but it is and has never been available to me.

Also,I was playing a game with another guy by the name of Mediocrity Goggles and we played through every mission and activity together. My stats display I've played every mission in co-op but didn't get the achievement for doing that - also though I've played though every activity in co-op my stats only 47/56 activities completed for co-op (though it does acknowledge I've done them all.

I barfed because you looked in my eyes!

Once a day whenever I boot up the game from Steam it runs like poo poo. Extreme screen tearing, massive lag input and terrible textures. It's basically unplayable and the only way to fix it is to restart my PC. It's not a huge problem as at least I can play the game, but is this a known issue and is there a fix?

EDIT: Oddly enough, I just accidentally opened up The Initiation Station and exactly the same thing happens.

Replace User

As of yesterday, the game no longer saves my progress and my settings. Manual save takes a few seconds to process but it never creates or updates a save. Automatic save just has SAVING stuck on the top-left of my screen for the duration of my game session. Every time I start the game, I'm reset back to 640x480, low, etc.

Any ideas? I disabled steam cloud support for now, but that hasn't solved it.

edit: It looks like it's a file permissions problem. I tried moving my saves out of my save folder and windows prompted me to provide admin access. I launched SR3 with both steam.exe and saintsrowthethird.exe having admin permissions, and I can now save again (yay). But I'm just wondering if this is bad and if I should instead change the permissions on the save folder, and if so, what's the proper settings to accomplish that, because I already tried to do ti and I didn't have any success there.

Why on earth does my performance improve as I turn up texture filtering? Trilinear/x2 is nearly unplayable but 8 and 16 are smooth (in vehicles is still buggered, I am assuming because when turning on foot I can see AO shadows on buildings loading in, lots of those = bad fps?

either way, fruity graphics engine.

Just ran into a really annoying bug after playing some co-op. My co-op partner had a homie he unlocked from a mission that I was able to call in despite not taking that reward for the mission. After calling it in my vehicle, tank, and vtol deliveries no longer work at all. They show up as blanked out as if I recently called them in no matter how long I play. They still show up as purchased in my phone upgrade store and there doesn't seem to be a way to repurchase them or get them back.

I've got a Q8400, 4GB and an XFX 6950 at 1920x1080 with the 11.11 drivers. Runs unplayable slow in vehicles (below 10FPS at times) and generally poo poo elsewhere as well. Doesn't matter what details I turn down, either. BF3 and Skyrim? No issues.

Waiting for a fix before I sour myself on playing anymore.

Looks that way from posts on the official forums. If you can access a VPN in another country you should be able to activate it just fine, I use a US one to unlock games early on steam most of the time and other people have claimed success in activating uncensored versions of games on steam by VPN connecting from outside of Germany.

http://hotspotshield.com seems to be the most common one, once the game is activated you should be able to disconnect from it and download the game through your normal connection because trying to download it through them will likely be slow as gently caress.

Did you manage to fix this? I've got the same problem and it seems to be steam not downloading a certain file, but no matter how many times I verify cache integrity and re-download it the file still ends up missing. Hoping there's a way around this without having to download the whole game again, if that'll even work

Seriously, do drugs

Running at 10-30fps with my HD4850 and Q6600 2,6ghz quad core, changing the aa/af settings does pretty much nothing to my performance, the only setting that affects anything is the shadow/lighting options. BF3 and Skyrim run perfectly fine with pretty good graphics, I'm really disappointed with the performance here. It's not unplayable, but it could be a lot better.

Use Fraps or something to check FPS, and see if it runs worse on medium or so. It'll still run like crap, but I've found that it runs identically between all-low and all-medium (with lighting on low). And my system has a mere three cores with a 4-series Radeon HD card.

Have you tried editing the file, and locking it to read-only? Some games store another .ini file in a different location and over-write the .ini in the game directory (Fallout, I'm looking at you here), but it's worth a go.

Did anyone notice their frame rate getting progressively worse as they play the game? Seems to happen after a lot of destruction happens, or maybe it's a coincidence.

No the answer isn't "you dumb rear end of course your frame rate will go to poo poo if there is a lot of action on screen" because it stays consistently low after finishing a mission, starting a new one, hitting a load screen etc.

Yes, god yes this happens to me, too. I really wish the problems with ati/amd were fixed already so that we could move on to fixing the little, but still really annoying problems. I think I recall someone saying that when the game is topping out, instead of lowering the framerate, it will simply slow down time. This is incredibly annoying when driving

I think my screen is making Skyrim not look as pretty as it should or something is seriously hosed up. I have no performance change when I set settings from High to Ultra. When I go to set things to Ultra from high it doesn't raise most of the settings higher, either. It also reverts antisophtrophic to off as opposed to 8x on High. I set every setting I could to the highest possible one except my resolution which can't go past 1024. I have a strange 32 inch monitor that doesn't support a very high resolution at all. nvidia control panel says 1024 x 768 is its native and I believe that's right. Still 1280 x 1024 looks better and its the highest value I can get Skyrim to run at. I would post a screen shot if someone wants to take a look at it.

Is it just me, or is the demo super-glitchy?

I don't have money to buy the full thing, but I've tried out the character creator demo. At first, I got the glitch where my character would always have shiny black skin unless I zoom in, and by updating drivers and setting NVidia's controls to let applications decide settings, the problem was kinda fixed. However, I selected a new skin, and then suddenly my character got all sorts of weird stuff on his/her skin. No matter what, the female character would always have 5-o'clock shadow and a weird ghostly face on her arm. Is this just a demo thing? Is this a taste of glitches to come in the full version, and I should probably wait a few months before I go ahead and buy it?

SR:TT has been crash free for me after 30+ hours except just once at that very same spot. A simple retry worked for me though. There is likely something buggy with the lua mission script for that part. SR2 was notorious for bugging out at mission completion and crashing or black screening for some people. The answer was almost always to just keep retrying it until it worked.

That sounds really weird. What kind of Nvidia card are you using?
Have you tried letting Steam do a "Verify integrity of game cache" (right-clicking the game in Steam -> Properties -> "Local files")?

The full game allows you to switch between DirectX 9 and DX10 mode plus a few other settings, so if you happen to have a older card I guess that could be a "solution". If I recall correctly the initiation station only allows you to change the resolution.

I'm really stumped over what the problem could be then. Only reason I'd take a shot at is that the card is dying (possibly overheating), but you would notice issues in other games. vv

There's nothing wrong with waiting. Wait long enough and you'll get to play some kickass DLC too!

This seems to be more of a Steam problem than SR3 one, but...

I keep getting corrupted files.

I preloaded and the game unlocked, and then the integrity-check made me re-download 8 out of 9gb. Rechecked, downloaded 6 out of 9 gb. Rechecked, downloaded 4 out of 9 gb. Rechecked, downloaded 82.7mb. Rechecked, downloaded same 82.7mb. Rechecked, downloaded same 82.7mb.

Said 'gently caress it' and deleted the entire SR3 folder and just downloaded post-launch so I wouldn't have to deal with decrypting loving up.

Now when I check it, I get one bad file, but the game seems to play fine.

So what's the deal? Anyone else getting this?

Went through the EXACT same thing, every game that decrypted in the past few weeks wanted to download almost everything short of a full reinstall. Rechecks always came up bad, and the same files were being downloaded constantly even though I wasn't playing the games between checks. One check would redownload 3gb, the next 5 minutes later would download 1.8gb, another one later that night wanted to reload another 3gb. The weird part is that everything seemed to run fine despite all the unfriendly files Steam was detecting. I reinstalled Steam and every game I had running through it (MW3 and a few others) and it still happened every time.

I kept getting this, and after a several hour ordeal trying to install Jurassic Park from the Telltale site, I ran some last ditch tests on my system and found that one of my RAM chips is on its way out. It still posts and the system still recognizes it, but memtest86 found 30k errors within 6 minutes of starting the test, and only with the one stick no matter what slot I put it in. I was getting bad Steam files all over the place, but it's actually the bad RAM's address errors loving up the CRC and integrity checks, not the files being corrupt.

May be time to check your system. Memtest86 boots from a disk, takes 10 minutes, it will not make any changes to your bios or anything, and if your problem is the same as mine you will be better off knowing even if you get the same bad news. RAM is relatively easy and cheap to replace, so it's not the end of the world.

Edit: It's the next day and I installed the new ram chips. Everything in my Steam library just validated 100%.
