I ran into something weird. I'm running around near Riften when I stumble over a group of bandits. I get one alone and start fighting him and he is absolutely kicking my rear end. After I kill him I look to see what he had and all he had equipped was hide armour, foot-wraps and an iron dagger.

So I go deeper into the fort and it's the same. All the enemies kill me in 1-2 hits and they all have fur/hide armour and iron weapons. I have around a 300 armour rating and do around 40-50 damage per swing. I also have a shield that blocks around %70 damage.

Anyone else experience this? I'm level 20 so most bandits are pushovers but these particular bandits were insane. They weren't named enemies or scripted enemies and they all had poo poo armour and weapons that hit like Ebony ones. It was surreal.

What type of bandits were they? IIRC "bandit" is the lowest level who usually die from 1 arrow, then next level is "bandit thug" which is a bit tougher, and then "bandit marauder" which I have to swing at with my lvl 34 sword+shield nord for at least 15-20 seconds before they go down.

All regular no-name bandits. Forgot to mention their iron arrows fired from long bows would take 20% - 30% of my health while blocking and having the arrow block perk. Pretty sure Skyrim bugged out somehow.

I knew I should have alt-tabbed out instead of shutting the game down - now it won't come up in Steam. The launcher never launches, it's just stalled on the "Preparing to launch..." window.

Is Steam buggin' at the moment?

That's what I thought but it seems a lot worse. Usually when the level scaling kicks in I see an increase in weapon quality.

On the other hand this isn't the first time I've seen something similar. Usually it's just one or two buffed enemies in a fort. First time I've seen the WHOLE fort buffed up.

What are the best quest lines people have found so far? If a player doesn't plan on playing 1000 hours, what should be on their bucket list? Sounds like the Thieves Guild, maybe Dark Brotherhood, and Daedric quests are interesting again. The Companions seems dull so far. Any cities more interesting than the rest?

I followed him to a burial site with some undead and some decent treasure. I couldnt interact with him any further. He just stands there and watches you deal with it all I think.

I loved the Thieves Guild line -- quite a bit better than the Dark Brotherhood, honestly, if only for the variation. By the nature of the Dark Brotherhood itself and Skyrim's overt handholding, all but maybe three of the quests you do are "kill this lone NPC at this marker." It's still awfully fun, if you are a stealthy archer like me and spend a good amount of time stalking your target until they are in the guards' blind spot, but doesn't measure up to the variety of gameplay contained within the Thieves' Guild line. I haven't done anything else. After I finished both, I was already level 36, and all content I encountered had been completely trivialized. I got bored and haven't gone back to the game in a couple days.

Also, the Dark Brotherhood isn't very fun if you don't want to be an unequivocally evil creepy gently caress. Edit: I found out today that there is an alternative, though: kill the assassin who tries to recruit you, and you get a quest to eradicate the Dark Brotherhood.

Errr I'm not sure what you mean. I suppose anything that enhances your ability to start and end a fight before your enemy blinks is a good goal. Better daggers and better sneaking.

Is it normal for duagre(sp?) scourges and wraiths to take 12-15 hits to go down. I have a upgraded mace doing 41 attack and every time I go into a cave I want to fall asleep because it's so tedious. I would get something better but not even Orchish and Dwemer weapons can compare to the mace I have now. I'm level 22 and every cave I enter seems to be scaled to that particular enemy spawn.

Hmm. That might be right. I remember around then it was taking roughly five hits for them to go down, but that was with a companion, so twice as many would be in the same ballpark.

Bring a friend. If you already have one and the fights still take that long, then that sucks but was not my experience.

That will probably be my experience. I tend to burn out on Elder Scrolls games before I even finish the main quest, so I'll rush through it and then not have any desire to touch the game for a while.

It works out well, because next year when I get the itch to play it again, I'll load up on mods and have a significantly different experience than the vanilla play through.

gently caress this poo poo, the level scaling has to be bugged to all hell.

I just went up a level from 22-23 and suddenly bandit highwaymen are spawning EVERYWHERE. I am literally standing in front of Riften watching as fur covered bandits 2 shot guards. I picked up a big Orc warrior and he gets one shotted. All I can do is spam potions and chip away at an enemy that seems immortal. I even have the perk where I ignore 50% of an enemies armour.

I think I'll just roll a new character. Something hosed up big time on this character because no way in hell is this normal.

Sorry for constantly coming into this thread with stupid loving questions, but I have another:

I was under the assumption that Bound Weapons increased/used the skill of the weapon it was, such as one-handed sword needing one-handed perks/skill to be effective, but I just tried it and whacking away at something rose my Conjuration level instead.

So how do bound weapons work? Does striking with them maybe level both Conjuration and One-hand at once? Or just Conjuration? Does the damage of your bound weapons scale with your Conjuration skill? Or both skills?

I didn't see any obvious quest options. But when the leader of the Forsworn asked me to kill a dude, I decided to kill him instead, and the quest log updated appropriately, and treated it as if I sided with the Treasury guy. Who I could thankfully still be snide to. I didn't like either side of that quest, but I did like how it was handled overall.

I learned from Oblivion that after beating the game I would lose all interest and ignore the DLCs when they came out.

I learned from Fallout 3 that I would actually want to play the DLCs, and I didn't beat the game until I had the DLCs lined up, but right after that main quest I just couldn't get back into it.

I finally did it right with Fallout:NV, but I didn't even start playing until 3/4 DLCs were out.

So yeah, I know how you feel, that's why I don't plan on finishing the main quest until the last DLC comes out.

If you are on the PC I've heard using the disable/enable console commands allow companions to level up with you. You need to do it everytime you level up if you want them to stay the same level as you.

Basically open the console, click on the companion and type disable. Then click him again and type enable. You may need to close the console between the disable and enable steps.

If you're playing a warrior and you're getting one-shotted, you're playing the game horribly, horribly wrong somehow. I went through the process of the early/mid-20s as a thief without using sneak much without the benefit of a shield or a full set of light armour and 90% of my level ups spent on stamina, and I still only got one-shotted very rarely, and only by guys power attacking with two-handed weapons.

Has anyone else experience this? It feels like cheating using it. If I run into a tough encounter all I have to do is summon it and I win. I'm level 35 now and I got it when I was like level 10. Still tanks and rapes.
