Holy poo poo! So was the feature actually in the game code but not included, then?

I'd guess more on the misisons starting on a "startmission" trigger and gibbed being able to mod a script in that replays the mission, or that they just modded the phone to have the player be eligible to complete every single mission and just renamed the options. I dunno. It seems silly for it to be in the game code but not accessible.

Mod news right now tends to be on idolninja.com and saintsrowmods.com (and curiously not on gib.me - I guess gibbed uses that just for tools). There's no mod subforum for SR3 on saintsrow.com yet.

IdolNinja says there's still a few kinks to work out on the mission replay mod.

I'm not seeing the option to record clips at all in the pause menu with the camera mod, just the main menu option to edit the clips. Any ideas what the problem could be, or anybody else having the same problem?

It's mostly fixing the zones/chunks (world geometry) for each mission init. For example, trying to do the early Pierce car customizing with stag blockades and bridges raised usually just ends in tears.

My plan is to have the replays permanently change the world state back to what it was so players can easily alter the world to any post-mission state by a simple replay. Want the drawbridges down and stag gone? Simply replay any mission pre #17, etc.

You need to be running the DX10/11 executable. Technically you could record clips in DX9 but it's that way because the export function will definitely need DX10/DX11 executable.

I don't suppose there's any chance of anyone whipping up some GUI for making replacing the radio station tunes easier or some simplified way or something?

As much as I'd love to replace the tunes with ones that I actually enjoy going through that for each song just doesn't seem worth it.

This is what I want the most too. I'm shocked the game doesn't just have an mp3 folder you can drop files into to make your own custom channel. This is something games have been doing since The Sims 1.

You're in luck. I was just reading about it on Volition's god awful sad excuse for a forum. Their community manager stated that mission replay would not be in sr3 at all. Period. Something about it being too difficult to implement and wanting player choice to feel "special" or some wank.

Yeah, I was really surprised, too. You'd think after they went through all the extra effort to make a good PC port (DX11 support, multi-monitor support, etc.) that they'd incorporate what is probably the most popular feature from the PC version of GTA4.

It's not like it's something that'd be hard to do. Even The Sims 3 supports this feature.

Translating from corporate talk, "We desperately need money and are short on staff, so work on DLC rather than improvements to the base game engine now that it's already shipped." Not entirely unexpected considering what's been heard of SR3's development, but sad still.

"Being too difficult to implement", and yet here we are. In just a few weeks time, gibbed has already unlocked a feature that was "too difficult to implement" and will probably get it working.

Two more weeks of development and we could've had it. The code was in the game... hell even the clip editor was in the game and there's enough of the clip editor code in there to have a mostly-functional feature.

There's a vast difference in polish between "unlocked", "barely working in concept" and "actually passes QA and ready to be put on all disks" - as Ninja mentioned theres likely a lot of testing and bugfixing necessary just to get it past the potential "will lock your game or render the savefile unwinnable" issues. And i'm certain there were about four dozen more important issues to spend a theoretical '2 more weeks' on when trying to get a game out the door under a looming deadline. :/

It's feasible to us (the people who know what a 'mod' actually is) and we love the unlocked unpolished features, but i can totally understand why they wouldn't include/expose them in the final release.

It was quite a bit more than just simply unlocking. Gibbed wrote a new function to populate the phone with replay entries, and I've been working non-stop with Corrodias and luckz to figure out how world states and zones work so we could fix all the mission bugs.

I was also able to go one step further and implement permanent world state changing so that replays will force the game world into that state they were at so players can easily change to pre-stag, drawbridges down, no zeds, etc by simply replaying earlier missions.

I actually did that assassination by just going to the right area with a heli and shooting everything ped I could find, and eventually one of the peds it spawned were morningstar. I'm still occasionally finding decker and lucha spawns on the map too, post final-mission. I think the rival gangs all still have small chances to spawn even after they are 'defeated'.

Weird. I've literally never seen a gangmember outside an event (survival, saintsbook, whatever) once I've taken over their entire territory. Their cars, yes, but they won't add to notoriety.

Have you taken over their entire territory, or are there a few pieces still left on the other end of the island or something?

I plan for Gentlemen of Steelport to be exactly like GotR; a massive core of improvements that enhance the game so people can easily do compatible coop, with a selection of optional mods for everything buggy or that replace existing features.

Examples:
Customize All Vehicles and Mission Replay - part of the core build of GoS.
Clip Editor - optional mod since it removes certain mission hud things
Homie replacement - optional since it changes characters

The big difference here is that NPCs have their own specific models, in SR1 and SR2 they used the same as the players. Chances are you won't be getting the clothing from them unless Volition makes them or someone somehow figures out how to import models.

I really hope they don't bundle those outfits together as suits, like the Decker outfit, instead allow you to mix and match that stuff, like the Morning Star Dark Lady stuff. I really want that Decker back armor or the Luchadores' combat harness to be separate Back items.

Yeah, I second this motion. The worst thing is calling in a VTOL and watching them carefully and cautiously pilot it into a building or a tree as they try to find a place to land; if they find a place to land at all. And then you're stuck not being able to call in a new one. I also wish you could call in the Specter VTOL
