Artsygrrl posted:Back to the Neyman interview: I've always wondered where they found that house/shack used in the movie. It looks so semi-abandoned, and appears to be so far out into the desert that it adds to the overall creepiness of the film. It was actually the ranch of Colbert Coldwell, a respected county judge. I do want to find out how exactly they wrangled permission to shoot there, though. Today, it's pretty much burned out and demolished. Interestingly, it seems that the entire 'Tomb' set was also owned by Coldwell. Those columns are supposedly remnants from an old demolished county courthouse that Coldwell had moved and installed as a landmark. Today, it's spitting distance from the El Paso Community College, and findable on Google Maps.

Missed the Kickstarter and this thread until just now somehow. Got all caught up on the thread, getting the blu-ray as soon as I can, and just ordered one of those amazing posters. You're awesome, Ben.

I got my poster quite a while back but got swamped at work. Finally got around to getting it framed, matted, and got it back today! Thanks Ben!

I just got mine as well, and it's bigger than I expected, come to think of it. It's very nice! Also, when I saw the Moth Inc. logo I briefly thought it was a horse's head wearing a mountie hat.

I'll be in Portland, Oregon on April 11th to document and enjoy the triumphant return of the 'Manos' stage play. ![]() Debbie is played by a puppet in this production and Jackey Neyman Jones, for the first time ever, will provide her own voice for the character. If you're in the Portland area, I hope you'll come out and join Jackey and myself for the show, a Q&A with the cast, and a probably a hang-out afterward! The disc is now on track for summer. My one frustration is that, in the process of negotiating a satisfactory video release for the film, I've had to forgo the transparency that Kickstarter likes best. For the backer's sanity as well as my own, I'll be pushing the distributor to make an official announcement ASAP so that I can finally share what we've been up to. In the meantime, I'm preparing some restoration comparison clips that should make the wait either easier or more maddening, depending on who you are.

With a tagline like that, I wish I was in the area! I hope someone gets some event photos.

Guess who?![]() The stage play is a whole lot of fun, and I've been getting a lot of great new interview material while I'm here. Brian, the director of the play and member of the band Blitzen Trapper, was also able to provide a musician's insight into the complexity of the Manos soundtrack, which the house band recreates nightly on stage (the lounge singers are also hilariously represented in the staging). Manos, while conceived as a film, began with a group of local stage actors collaborating. Seeing the same material performed live in front of an audience as a comedy brings this point home: when the Master, having subdued Torgo, reveals the hands on his cloak and declares "the Hands of Fate have doomed this man!" what was awkward on screen is entirely sensible (though admittedly still strange) on stage.

I already threw down for the great lithograph poster, I'm highly, highly tempted to grab this as well. Although while having one piece of Manos merchandise decorating my walls is great, I'm not sure what having two pieces says about me.

Ben, will the DVD have our goon-transcribed subtitles on it? Or do you know yet? Edit: Also, this clip is very impressive: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Otow9NMgf8w RagingBoner fucked around with this message at May 15, 2013 around 06:49 |
