I can still go as level 6 medic to a normal game and pubbies (often level 0-1 in normal games) will go melee a big group of zeds and then blame me. Is easier to keep them alive as level 6 support in that difficulty clearing the waves by myself with my HS...

I thought it would take me forever to level Medic from 5 to 6, but it wasn't that bad really. If players aren't getting hurt enough for you just go up a difficulty level. Nobody gets out of HoE games unscathed.

As for Commando I usually end up going AK/SCAR. I've tried replacing the AK with the M5 for its larger bullet pool, but I'm used to aiming with the AK so much I still do better with it.

General strategies are to pop heads with the smallest bursts possible. Going full auto on a Bloat's body is wasting ammo. I let other players fight Scrakes until I see them down to less than half health, then unload a SCAR clip into their heads to finish them off. Prioritize Gores and Crawlers, weaken Sirens and Husks from a distance.

There's no way to reverse it and drop my perk back down to level 3, either. Cheaters don't prosper!

What is the Best Friend City password? Or is that a private thing now?

Also, Medic is easily my favorite class.

Medic>Berzerker>Commando>Sharpshooter>Demolitions>Firebug

2 Medic SMGs and a LAR makes me feel good.

Another question: Is a single handcannon supposed to weigh as much as dual handcannons?

I have more fun using the expensive weapons that become cheaper with higher levels, and it would make it easier to play with my friend who bought the game ages ago, has all of his perks at 6, and is infinitely better at FPS's than I am. I am bad at video games.

I recently got Sharpshooter up to 6, and everything else is at 3 except Medic which is 4, and it kinda feels like a waste. I'm not going to start off as anything else, because bam free crossbow, but that entire first round I am not leveling anything else. Its really the main complaint I have about the game, I wish you could spawn as a class and actually level it up without having to be rank 5. The only ones you can are Medic and Sharpshooter, and to a much shittier effect Demolitions. Hopefully they make a sequel, and that sequel has more ranks of guns so you can spawn with a lovely shotgun at level 1 support or whatever and just jump right in it.

On the other hand, finally got Sharpshooter to level 6! :woop:

Medic is easy to get to level 4 or 5 since every classs should heal but when you try to level at that point it kinda sucks. Usually when things go bad they go bad fast. When your team is good you dont many heal points, and then something like a FP will take most or all of your team out. Its rare that youre in a game where people constantly get hurt, but only slightly so you can keep topping them off. I dunno.

I still remember my final awesome guitar riff soundclip when I hit my last level 6 (Commando). Leveling definitely gives you something to work towards, which is a lot more important to me than I thought it would be. The day after I got the last map achievement I didn't feel like jumping into the game like I used to. At least with those you can go in and look for a decent group on that map, and if you don't find one, oh well guess I'll mess around for a bit while I'm here.

Now that I once again have all the maps I mostly get into the game to join friends and mess around trying to survive/be helpful with the less-used classes. Playing Commando and topping the kill board by headshotting all the trash zeds and running behind everyone for Scrakes and FPs? Yes please.

One of the reasons I'd say to level normally is that by putting the playtime into it you'll become very familiar with all the maps and all the different zeds and weapons. If you're just mucking about with friends then sure whatever, but it's always obvious when a "Level 6" joins a Hell on Earth game...

I leveled Support and Sharpshooter to 6 right when they implemented that level (if you met the numbers you got insta leveled) and medic to 6 like 4-5 weeks after. I have only played in HoE until this christmas, it was an horrible experience being rusty after months without playing. I played like a scared little girl when i saw a level 6 zerker getting ripped off in no time and spent more time running away blasting everything with my HS. When i played the most, all servers were easy/normal/hard and then looking for a decent suicidal server, with all level 6 was really unusual (lasting 2-3 waves with pubbies being the best you could do).

The pat can only take up to two full pipebombs worth of damage at once before an enormous amount of diminishing returns kicks in. I don't have the numbers on the returns offhand, but it's quite bad. What you want do now is do a breadcrumbs strategy with two pipes at a time or even save a few.

:EDIT: just checked the wiki tables and it's not as harsh as I thought. the scaling actually kicks in starting with the second but isn't that awful. Even at 6 pipes you're still getting around 80% efficiency damage wise. Of course, that assumes that the pat doesn't just sprint over the pack of them.

e:f,b ^^ Uh, what that guy said.

Multiple pipes in the same area will only deal the damage of ~2 when they are detonated. This is to prevent huge spikes of damage one shotting the pat, among other game breaking things. This has been the case for well over a year but most KF players seem to be unaware and despite pleading and appeals to reason will place huge piles of the things in one spot, thereby wasting most of them.

This exact thing happened to me last night on KF-Aperture. This level 2 demo stacked like 16 pipebombs in a neat little pile while myself and another guy were seeding them near unsealed doors. The Pat spawns and triggers my pipebombs and the other guy's, he then runs into the room where we were and promptly rockets the other demo- who was conveniently standing on top of his pile of pipe bombs. Of course, his transition into pulpy red pixels was OUR fault of course, because we didn't lure the Pat into his pile of useless bombs. Said dumbass also didn't buy body armor because he claimed it was useless and slowed him down (!?). We tried to vote-kick the guy, and discovered that he was actually the server admin. :psyduck:

Right-click on an empty space in the Favorites tab, it will give you an option to "Add server to favorites" and it will pop up a box to type in the IP address. On the Internet tab you can also just right-click to connect to a server directly.

A couple of random questions:

Do pipebombs do full damage if I trigger them with other explosives? In other words, if I see that the patriarch is going to charge right past my pipebombs, can I lob a grenade at them to detonate them when he gets there?

Is there a way to disable those lovely tripwire/unreal/etc intro movies? How about the splash screen? I deleted the "Movies" folder, but that only takes out the loud and annoying ads that play on the spawn screen.

Dropping huge mountains of pipebombs used to be the most hilarious way to kill the patriarch when it still worked; he'd walk into a door and BEEPBEEPBEEPBEEP his ragdoll goes flying away into the sky, Team Rocket style.

In addition to making him take less damage from multiple stacked explosions, he'll also shoot pipebombs if he sees them. The most hilarious way of killing him is now probably "everyone goes berserker with a chainsaw"

Are you sure he rockets the pipes themselves? Or is he just shooting at players standing next to them? I don't remember ever hearing about him targeting pipes for self defense before.

And chainsawing the Pat has been the de facto "I need this map achievement" strategy for years, ever since they nerfed pipe stacking. Does get a bit boring after a while. Just remember to hold down alt-fire!

Has anyone here successfully started a dedicated server that they have hosted from their own machine that populates on the server list? I have followed the directions laid out here at http://www.kf-wiki.com/wiki/Help:Dedicated_servers, but when any friends attempt to connect they have to add the server by manually inputting my IP address. Then it comes up as Unknown Server. I would love to get this working right so the name I pick for my server will appear and also so that others may join the game in progress.

I just realized a couple of things. My server was listed, but it had a ping of N/A. Secondly, the ping then showed up when I enabled DMZ. What kind of setting on my router would prevent the game from being able to ping it? I'd prefer to change that setting to just enabling DMZ altogether.

Edit: At this time I have enabled DMZ just for this one system. I would still prefer to find another fix. However, it appears that my server is listed, has a ping, and when adding it to the favorites it is no longer an Unknown Server.

Edit 2: Also bunches of people have joined and played on it already with me. It is definitely working this way.

Just had some crazy poo poo go down...

I join my 'zerker bud RR in a Hell on Earth game at mountainpass and find him as the last one alive, trying to clean up about 150 zeds. A couple of the dead guys (Medic and uzzA) are insulting the hell out of him, calling him a super-sized WalMart fatass fag etc etc. Seems they were mad that he wouldn't give them any money at the beginning of the wave. After the game he told me they were a pair of lv4s who wouldn't leave the game and died instantly when the wave began, CONSTANTLY begging for money and basically had no business joining a HoE game.

While all this was going on I messaged him through Steam and told him he should fight down to the last Scrake and let it kill him, as I've been trolled like that a couple of times and it is damned annoying when you're trying to get a tough map achievement. But what RR did was even better/worse than that. He bobs and weaves for the next 20 minutes and gets to the final Scrake of the wave, then proceeds to run over to the edge of the road and starts throwing all of his precious dosh off the side of the map. The rest of the team flips their poo poo while he leads the Scrake over to the wooden overlook (by the public restroom) and jumps off the edge to his death.

We chat for a bit through Steam and then I go off looking for another game to join, not thinking too much about it all. And what do I see in the server browser? Why it's the same group starting another game on mountainpass! I decide that the rudeness shown to my friend shall not stand and resolve myself to joining their game and doing the exact same thing. Anyone who would say I'm being too hard on them is invited to read a bit of the chatter I got in my screenshots, trust me they deserved it (talking about Medic and uzzA).

I began my campaign by being as useless as possible but mostly observing them, not actively interfering with their game.
Wave 6: 53 kills :toot:

The whole game they've been dying constantly or barely surviving every encounter because they started out with three medics :ughh:

But right about the time Scrakes start showing up it all falls apart. I watched Medic, the lv4 SS, run up to a fresh Scrake and unload on him with dual handguns, 44s I think, and then act pissed when he dies in 3 seconds. One of the medics tried to take one out with his MP5, with predictable results.

Finally it was time to put my plan into action when half the team was dead 19 zeds into wave 8. Shortly thereafter I was the only one left alive and over about half an hour I worked my way through the remaining 200+ zeds down to that final Scrake. And then...

*JUMP*

e: Meant to preview this not post it... anyway below is a link to a giant image I put together from all the screenshots I took during the game, it is a 3.5meg JPG that you can read down if you want all the gory details:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/35359842/trollinbitches.jpg

The bottom of the image is all the chat history that I could capture from the console window after the game, reading through that will give you a taste of how the game had been going in general. I normally never do this and try to be as helpful as I can to new players, but these two little shits were just asking for it.
