Yeah. I heard the reason is that buyback rates for near mint games in Japan is so good, some people just buy the games, keep them in perfect condition, then sell them as opposed to renting them.

It's because they buy them from Super Potato who only sell mint used games. There are a million places to buy used games in Japan in awful condition. How many times have we seen a cartridge with someone's name written on it on the show?
What was said about Japan's used game market is true though. I got some badass immaculate/complete used games from random electronics and hobby stores in small towns. Super Potato also deals in less than mint stuff. There's shelves of loose carts and they'll have multiple copies of the same game priced differently for their condition.

Because it's not in the spirit of the show, and even if the idea did come up, it could be among hours and hours of footage that didn't make it to the final cut of the episode.

(Ghost n' Goblins spoilers) It's really baffling how Arino managed to spend so much time against the red arimer in GnG, the other day, I played against it for the first time ever, and beat it on my second try...
A friend of mine who moved to Japan came back and visited. We were like "gently caress it, let's beat Ninja Gaiden!" We traded off at Game Overs (though he did most of the work). Neither of us had any experience with the game, but we beat it in about two to three hours. Arino took 19 hours.

I think it must have shot up in price pretty recently. I snagged a copy for about 10 bucks a few years ago. Good game.

Plus, 33 dollars isn't too bad. That's the lowest I see on ebay buy it now (which might be good to know for someone looking for the game. i see one with a bunch of bids on it going for about 50).

Little Sampson on the other hand is a game I can't see myself ever owning because there's no way I want to pay hundreds of dollars for a single Nintendo game.
The 33 dollar one has a label about to fall off and will probably still get several bids in the last hour.

Ditto on Little Samson. I keep hoping somebody will just find a warehouse full of them. The worst thing is I actually wanted it pretty bad back when it was new, but I just never got it.

It's less sad when you actually play Animal Crossing because the game has a Mom who sends you presents anyway and they probably thought those were from their mother. But it's still sweet that they got that impression.
Someone always points that out, but letters from the in-game mom don't stack up in your absence. When you come back after a long time, you'll probably have one from maybe your last birthday and that's it.

Anyway, I bet the PaRappa challenge is going to beat every level with "Cool" rating and unlock the bonus thing. Arino will not be told this until he's spent a few hours beating the game on Easy and Normal. Personally, I've never been able to get "Cool" at all in level 2. Unless there's a simple method to pulling it off and the staff tells him about it, it's gonna be tough.

ETA: Wait, is it only for PSP?

All PS1 classics (downloads) and discs will play on all PS3's. Not sure about Vita compatibility though.
Edit: Parappa did get a PSP port. Maybe you were looking at that?
Edit 2: Holy poo poo. It's not on PSOne Classics? color me surprised...

I'm sure it's a combination of TV and emulation, but the fact that they put Lammy up there suggests that PaRappa was coded differently enough.
Or they didn't want to cannibalize the sales of the PSP port (currently $22 on PSN).

I just finished watching the last half of Dig Dug II. Interesting coincidence the highest score he achieved was 51400 (00415 backwards). Not as crazy as the Pac-Man 2 door code being 415, but there you go.

It does own. It's a Falcom title, so that also means rad music. It's kinda hard to know what to do on your own, but if you've seen the GCCX episode you probably know enough. You just need to know what the items do, who can use them, and where each family member's dungeon starts.

I watched the Legacy of the Wizard episode again last night, and I got to wondering. Is it ever actually explained in game or in the manual or whatever what you have to do to beat the game? It seemed pretty bloody arcane even by NES standards, small wonder Arino had to be handheld so much.

All you really need to know to get through it is what the items do, who can equip them, and that each of the four directions you can go from the central room (aside from where you came in) is a dungeon for each family member. The original Zelda has more aimless random bullcrap.
