Regarding the spoiled thing: maybe add a disclaimer to the beginning of the video, or before the segment in question, like one of those 'viewer discretion is advised' things? So people know to skip ahead?

I haven't seen the episode in question but I think anyone who has ever been fishing and seen a fish being gutted has seen worse. I'm not exactly an old nature-dweller myself, but I have a hard time imagining people being quite THAT sheltered. Unless it's an outright phobia like with one of the people here, of course. And no I'm not going to spoiler this you people are being silly. :colbert:

Yeah, seems like a really extreme reaction for something that small. All this spoilering made me imagine a lot worse.

I'm pretty sure Binary Land repeats the same stages over and over but with more obstacles, so getting the whale which eliminates those obstacles completely makes most stages trivial. I never noticed that when I played it on my NES way back when, and it explains why Arino clears the whole thing so quickly and easily despite the large amount of stages.

The only thing I disliked about the SMW episode was how many stages he never played. Time restraints :argh:

And yeah, he was horrible against Bowser but come on, the way it all ended was totally worth it. And aside from that one stage he breezed through Bowser's Valley which I remember caused me a fair amount of trouble.

I tried ActRaiser 2 some time back and inflicting that on Arino would be absolutely evil. It'd be alright if it didn't kick you back to the beginning of the stage whenever you die unless you reach the stage boss, and of course there's also mid-stage bosses you need to kill again every time you die.

It's also slow as molasses.

I remember reading somewhere that it's pretty common since it's basically the only thing your brain has to work with when creating an image of the person in question. For example if your avatar is a real wise-looking long-bearded man, that's the image the brain associates with the things that person writes. I noticed I tend to do the same thing when I actually started thinking about it.

It doesn't mean people actually think the avatar has anything to do with the person in reality, obviously. It's just another case of the brain trying to make things easier to process.

Anyway, this is rather off-topic.

Personally I think Arino should play Alundra since he likes puzzles. Shame it's probably a bit too long for the show.

Haven't watched the episode, but the first DKC is full of those shortcuts. Some years back I remember playing with my friend and getting stuck in one of the snow levels for ages, then at one point I accidentally fell into some random pit and it took me to the end. :toot:

Anyone else noticed how this is THE reason why they took Youtube vids down?

I think the point was that content being made exclusive to a streaming service that isn't available everywhere means some people won't be able to see the content at all, I don't think anyone cares about which service to watch as long as they can watch them.

Of course it's rather premature but still, looking at the discussion and comments it seems people here have a really hard time communicating without massive amounts of snark and :smug:.

I'm the exact opposite. Even though it had been years since I played it last, when I played multiplayer with a friend of mine a year back or so I could still remember the locations of practically all of the bonuses and DK coins in the game. I even remembered most of the more obscure stuff such as which walls you could walk/swim through. It was one of the relatively few SNES games I owned as a kid and I played it quite a few times trying to find everything.

Went back and beat DKC2 earlier today for the first time since I was a kid in 3.5 hours at 67% completion. This game is way easier than I remember, other than a select few stages, but I haven't touched the Lost World. Arino, how do you not figure out that holding the roll button lets you move more quickly, or even try the direction arrows to see if they do anything while swimming or while Squawks is carrying you, etc.? Still no roll jumps from him either. :smith: Watching him fail that one not-at-all-difficult jump in the marsh level in World 3 countless times...man.

What, they still haven't taught him that? :psyduck: Is the game even possible without running?

Because of DKC2 I grew a habit of holding the run button in basically every game that has one because it made the game so much easier and faster.

I'm pretty sure it isn't beatable without the run button; the best example that comes to mind is the bramble race level just before the K. Rool fight. Before you even get to the Squawks race part, you have to make roll jumps, running jumps, and hold the run button to move across a vine quickly to avoid being hit by enemies, just to name a few. Unless he learns, that level's impossible.

Yeah, even before that a bunch of stages that require speed like Slime Climb, Castle Crush or Toxic Tower seem really tricky. Heck, can you even outurn King Zing when he chases you?

I guess we'll see, good thing I'm not one of those people who get frustrated seeing Arino play games poorly. :v:

Eh, the final boss is somewhat understandable but MagiKoopas aren't even particularly dangerous. Also if I'm not remembering wrong, that door he spends all that time trying to reach isn't even required, it just contains the (admittedly helpful) halfway point.

As has been said before, the grind is the silliest part of it all since even if they don't know about Top Secret Area, Forest of Illusion 1 is a stage he clears anyway and is a lot faster.

Regardless, I like the episodes and that amazing ending makes it all worth it. :3:

I'd wager Arino was so much better at MakaiMura Ghosts 'n Goblins than SMW because it's a lot simpler to control even if the game itself is more difficult. Arthur always jumps the same distance and moves at the same speed, after all.

I can relate, I remember being godawful at New Super Mario Bros. because the momentum-based movement screwed me over all the time.
