Also 3rding or w/e that you need a quad core to fit recommended requirements. A dual core is only minimum. APB won't use more than two cores, but it will use two full cores of whatever you have. On my Phenom II x4 965 Black APB will use two full cores to itself (I'm CPU bound) and the other two are used by background processes.

Running on a dual core (especially AMD) is certainly bottlenecking you in the general FPS area. Sound/FPS stuttering when you load new areas/drive fast is a HD/RAM bottleneck.

Dxtory with the Lagarith Lossless Codec works much better for me than FRAPS, giving only a minor hit to the game's FPS.

Esc > District Select

Click the >> next to 'Choose Your District' and you can see all the instances and their threat level.

If you go into a district 1 threat level lower than you, 25% reduced rewards.
2 levels is 50%, 3 levels is 90%.

There's also a penalty for going in a district higher than your skill, it's either 5 or 10% from what I recall.

Just unzip into your steamapps/common folder or wherever APB's root folder is. (The first folder in the archive is APB Reloaded)

In the Engine/Shaders folder, modify the file called APBUberPostProcessBlendPixelShader.usf in notepad.

Line 77 I put a comment to change the numbers to whatever screen resolution you play in. It's currently 1440x900. Doing a Ctrl+F for 1440 will find the values.

Stuttering happens when the game tries to stream in content but can't because either A. You don't have the RAM or B. The hard drive wasn't quick enough to provide the content.

If you have 6GB or more already of RAM, I'd suggest an SSD! If not, get more RAM. Also texture compression as I mentioned in the ini tweak.

I find the performance to be pretty much the same as the RTW and other custom shaders. From what I've heard you can't just place a new single shader to get the effect, it's a whole folder. Trying to load it with the RTW shaders the game won't start.

The gun I'm using is a Joker SR15 Carbine 'Casanova'

FYI the Cel shaders I posted above, it replaces your current Shaders folder, not overwriting the current files.

Rename your current Shaders folder to Shaders.old or something for if you want to switch back.

Also if you have Depth of Field and Bloom disabled in APBMachineOptions.ini the effects won't work.

What do all these switches control anyways?

Here's some documentation, so that if you miss a certain effect/want to get rid of something you know what to change

DynamicDecals: Dynamic decals on map, such as bullet holes. Uses CPU.
DynamicShadows: Real-time shadow rendering on characters. Mainly CPU, some GPU.
EnvironmentShadows: Automated way of controlling dynamic lighting. Increases lighting/shadow quality at cost of CPU.
MotionBlur: Simulates blurring during quick camera movement. Uses CPU
DepthOfField: Distance based blurring of the environment. Uses CPU.
AmbientOcclusion: Improved shadowing detail. Uses CPU.
Distortion: Post-process distortion effects. The best example I can think of (but not APB specific) is that wavy heat distortion you see over hot things, such as a toaster.
DropParticleDistortion: Reduces particle distortion quality (like muzzle flashes) to reduce CPU usage
SpeedTreeLeaves: SpeedTree procedurally generated trees. Uses CPU. Turning off makes trees a little more static looking, but who's looking at them anyways.
SpeedTreeFronds: Same as above
LensFlares: Lens flare caused by the sun, etc. Uses CPU.
FogVolumes: Volumetric fog effects. Uses CPU. Feel free to turn it off if the occasional foggy weather pisses you off.
DetailMode: Integer between 0 and 2. Determines how frequently certain components are updated. 2 is default. 1 is lower.
MaxAnisotropy: Anisotropic texture filter multiplier. Higher values provide better texture detail when viewed from an angle. Diminishing improvement as you increase. Uses CPU/GPU.
DirectionalLightmaps: Enables directional lighting. Uses GPU.
Bloom: Glowing light effects on certain textures/objects. Uses GPU. APB makes heavy use of Bloom, so disabling it can have major impacts on how the game looks.
QualityBloom: Use high quality bloom instead of fast versions. Uses GPU.
bEnableVSMShadows: Enables VSM, a type of shadow modulation
bEnableBranchingPCFShadows: Branching PCF implementation for projected shadows
bAllowBetterModulatedShadows: Extra geometry pass needed for culling shadows on emissives
bCompress*: Enables DXT texture compression. Decreases game's RAM usage in exchange for increased CPU usage.
GarbageCollectionMemoryCeilingGb=2.2: Forces the game to manage RAM more strictly, at the cost of I/O.
