http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vkk_JWjlbwE This stupid song gets me every single time I hear it. Nickel Creek's When You Come Back Down. I first found it when I was looking through clips from October Sky on Youtube. I think it really fits because I'm very passionate about flying.. When you're soaring through the air I'll be your solid ground Take every chance you dare I'll still be there When you come back down My mom started singing it to me the other day when I was feeling really lovely. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tyr8jpX2S74&feature=related In the same vein, the October Sky theme by itself makes me tear up. gently caress, that entire movie makes me cry. And then after I watched that, Amelia came on immediately after. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eg6b1G_5XcQ&feature=related This song makes me cry. The entire movie is pretty sad, but the very last scenes where she's trying to find Howlland Island and they're trying to desperately get in contact with her.. and she's crying because she knows that there's no use. All hope is lost. There's also a quote right at the very end of the movie, something from one of her journals that makes me incredibly sad. But I can't remember it and I can't find it anywhere.

Glósóli is good, and in my opinion, more tear-inducing than Ára bátur (though neither have literally made me cry). If you want to hear a trio of moving songs, listen to Saeglopur, Milano, and Gong (all from the album "Takk") in a row. Watch a slideshow of hi-res nature photos to taste. EDIT: Y'know what, just listen to tracks 6-11 on "Takk". I gave my wife a Weakerthans live album for Christmas, and I had forgotten how this song gets me: Virtute The Cat Explains Her Departure I had a friend once tell me that she was not going to listen to the Weakerthans again until John Samson stopped writing songs about his cat. Point one: I'm pretty sure Virtute's a character, not a real cat. Point two: I'll listen to songs about a cat all drat day if they're as good as this is (and as good as the antecedent song, Plea From a Cat Named Virtute, was). Bonus: Left and Leaving is also a pretty sad song.

Propagandhi tend to write songs about war orphans and human rights violations but somehow their saddest song is about the singer's cat.quote:All in nature ends in tragedy and I was the first to finally fade away from my grandfather's memories. How long til the day my memories of him finally fade away? Dissolving into gray. Is breathing just the ticking of an unwinding clock? Just counting down the time it takes for you to comprehend the sheer magnitude of every single precious breath you've ever wasted? I did everything I could. I bargained with the universe to take my life instead of hers. But no amount of money, drugs or tears could keep her here. What purpose did her suffering serve? Is breathing just the ticking of an unwinding clock? Just counting down the time it takes for you to comprehend the sheer magnitude of every single precious breath you've ever wasted? So much misery. So much indifference to so much suffering that we can become tempted by appeals to hatred. But this world ain't nothing more than what we make of it. Revenge ain't no solution to the inevitable pain that every single one of us must face in losing the kindred spirits in our lives. Lives so brief, so disappointing, so confusing. As Cronie slipped away I held her in my arms, reduced to "Please don't leave me. What will I do?" But this cosmic sadness is just here to remind you that without Love, breathing is just the ticking of... Brutal Sadly, there's no studio version for easy listening on youtube, but this live version is pretty good: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TY5-CZcaSXo

God this doesn't hold a candle to some of the things that are in the thread already, but parts of the score from the Lion King make me all teary-eyed. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aubjzXHYKs4 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y7ks_FkcFWY Hans Zimmer is a great composer. There's a song from the Broadway play too, about Simba being lost and missing his father, but knowing in the end there's hope. It's one of the best songs in the play, but it's got another layer of sad to it, because the debut Simba performer (the one you hear on the soundtrack) killed himself later, in a hotel room. That makes the song ten times sadder for me. There's supposed to be hope in the end https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n1lSvvubI6M

ProperCoochie posted:Propagandhi tend to write songs about war orphans and human rights violations but somehow their saddest song is about the singer's cat... John K. Sampson (the guy that wrote the songs about Virtute the cat) played bass in Propagandhi back in the day. Also, yes Virtute is fictional. Something that made me cry recently was a mastiff puppy. I work at a pet rescue, and a few cops found this dog running in the streets. The dog was a 5-month-old blue mastiff, emaciated, and covered in mange. The cops brought it over to us hoping we could take it, knowing that if they took it to the pound it'd be killed. They tried to get the Humane Society to take it, but the HS refused. In the end, I sent them over to a local emergency vet. The cops reported back to me, and the dog is HALF the weight he should be, but has very treatable mange. I went out to their car to see the dog for myself, and I immediately broke down. This gigantic baby was covered in oozing, bleeding wounds where the mange caused the dog to lose most of his fur. He had the most sad, kind eyes, and was terrified. He was not aggressive at all towards the cops, even though they had to grab him with a catch pole. I'm currently working on our director; trying to convince her to go and get him so we can finish his treatment and put him up for adoption.
