Hey man when I first saw your username I should have guessed this, but I saw you posting in the A/T thread for chess, let me know if you ever want to play some games on chess.com and teach me how to be good because I'm awful!

I don't know if you need more mobility work like I do, but I've added in shoulder dislocations and foam rolling before I even do a warmup set for both squats and deadlifts. When you're standing up straight with the bar over your midfoot for deadlifts, that's when you lock your lower and upper back into super-tight extension. (Not lordotic overextension where your lumbar spine is too curved backwards, but just a very tight muscular contraction.)

Then try to get your hands down to the bar by dropping your hips and bending your torso over, without rolling your shoulders forward and refusing to let go of the tight back extension.

For squats you have to produce the same super-tight arch just before you unrack the bar and hold that arch through your entire set to safeguard against spine/disc injury, so you should be good at locking it in and maintaining it under load.

I'll offer more comments when you post more vids, good luck!

I'd try not to deadlift off of a plate unless you really have to, you lose out on some hip strength gains by not doing it straight-up. Besides that, I think you're close enough that you won't have to.

Your back now looks pretty locked in when you're standing, so that's an improvement. You bend over, still looks great...but then when you get all the way bent over, your lower back rounds...and then you correct it most of the way by dropping your hips.

What you should do is lock it in while standing like you did, but then as you bend down to reach the bar holding in a tight arch, go ahead and drop your hips as you lower yourself and grab the bar. That way you should be able to maintain your arch the entire time.

Also, don't crane your neck back and bend your cervical spine into a C to look up at the ceiling. Right after I draw in my breath to pull, I like to tuck my chin under while keeping my head pulled back and everything tight, look at a spot on the floor 6' in front of you.

In other news, I think I'm going to stop lifting for a while. I honestly don't care about my lifting numbers the way I used to (i.e. at all), and I have a lot of muscle (especially in my upper body) that I can afford to shed, especially if I ever want to be a remotely fast runner. I also don't want lifting to interfere with my running training right now. I do plan on picking it back up later, mostly for aesthetics and to avoid being a hopelessly weak poo poo. I think something like 150-160 might be a good goal weight for me in the long term, so commence twinkification, I guess.

Good for you for going after your goals. Good luck in achieving your goal weight and physique!
