Queue times are about the same for me, maybe just slightly faster, while the quality of teammates has gone down drastically. From ~1750 before down to ~16something now, I'm getting people who are currently ~1400 which must mean they were 11-1300 before. I'm still winning though because I've been lucky enough to have pubs that actually ward/get flying for me mid so I crush, hopefully this will continue until I stop being matched up with such low mmr players.. before I would never really see below 1600.

PS I only ever solo queue.

On the other side of this, I was 1550 before, down to 1525 now. In the new system I've been consistently matched up with people in the high 1600s, including a couple games with 1690s, which works out to almost 1900 in the old system. The highest I would see under the old system is high 1600s, maybe the occasional low 1700.

Queue times don't seem noticeably different.

So, I got a referred account to level 3, and the shop says I have Professor Repulsor, but on the actual picking screen - I can't choose him. It's not that he shows up locked as if I didn't buy it, or own it, it's that Repulsor himself just appears to not have a skin at all.

Do the referred accounts need to be referred after the skin was implemented? Or is it good enough if they show up as a referred account?

Also: Any reason why Dethchat doesn't work when I have it marked? Killchat works fine, and now that I get the basics I'm just going to edit in lines.

I kept getting told to use the numpad but that seems dumb cause I already have things binded to those buttons...

What is experimental mode? (NO HOMO)

Are the lines just picked randomly? It kept saying poo poo about MB being a pubtrash pick and there was an MB on the other team, I don't see it being that smart but it chose those lines a statistically significant about for their being 50 lines to choose from.

Are there certain heroes that are considered "top tier" that I should watch out for or anything? Also to anecdotally chime in on the current conversation, the switch really does seem like a placebo. Having it on fairness or whatever I was the top MMR on my team at like...1530 or so and the highest person on their team was 1620, and the next two highest were still higher than me.

Wouldn't that equate to matching a 1560 up against a 1740 as the captains on their teams pre-compression?

Or do the algorithms treat the new 1600 the same as the old 1600, when in fact the compression made it the old 1700?

I don't get the big deal everyone is making about the compression, it's only going to be a matter of weeks until people make their way to the mmr they belong at. It only happened in the first place because of people with obscene mmrs that aren't really feasible to reach anymore.

Pretty sure that switch does absolutely nothing. And it doesn't take into account the huge skill differential between players that are in the 1500s and players in the 1600s. (By that I mean, the difference between a 1560 and a 1580 player is not really noticeable, but the difference between a 1620 and a 1640 player is huge.

I'd skip grave locket personally, early game you should be mostly relying on your spell damage to get kills, and mid/late game the stat gains don't outweigh the amount it slows up getting your first core items. You seem to stack strength as well, which is a bit puzzling. You want to be getting icebrand, sure, but the str bracers seem like overkill, and you're just going to keep yourself in a stage of arrested development items wise.

Other than that, it's just microing cleverly, rejoining to make sure you're on max life as much as possible and picking the right "on-hit" items (nullfire, savage mace, whatever) to beat whatever team you're facing. I'll add that I haven't actually played Gemini that much, so I could be wrong about some/all of this, but these are just my impressions based on what I've seen.

So what the gently caress am I supposed to do, new at the game? I watched the tutorial, but since I have played LoL before, there wasn't pretty much anything new to it. So I figured I'd click on the big "Play Game" button and get into a game, noting that it says I would only be facing other basic accounts (so level <5) and that it'd match me with other people new to the game.

Instead it's a game full of people that are way, way better, everyone is soon level 8 while I am still level 4 (my opponent was 6, but kept denying my last hits) and I get raged at for playing a matched game. Are they full of poo poo or should I really go into public games first?

Yeah, try some nostats game before you go into matchmaking. If only to get a feel for the game and knowledge of the heroes. People are more lax in nostats aswell since nothing is on the line.

Also, say during pick that you are new and would like some tips. Sure, some people will rage and bitch. Some people will however try to help you.

Your first 10-30 matches are going to go pretty badly for you since the game has a really steep learning curve, so try not to worry about losing too much. If someone yells at you, just ignore them (/ignore add <douchebag>). If they're at 1500 MMR, their advice probably isn't worth listening to anyway. If you want to know something, ask here or on the IRC channel. Searching a guide on a specific thing works too.

There's really no reason not to play matchmaking unless you want to protect your MMR. People are you going to bitch at you no matter where you play. Even if you join a public game titled "uber noobs only", you will still get called a noob. I guess there's still the benefit of having less smurfs though.

You could go public games first, but especially since F2P anyone >1500 PSR could very well be a true tryhard player. Some people just rage and whine at anyone, so feel free to /ignore add <playername> . Either that, or develop a thick skin.

So is there a way to pull yourself up by your bootstraps and leave the 1500 range? I rarely feed and am typically positive K:D if not dominating in the games, but there is always someone on my team who just ruins it for everyone. Am I currently stuck in some sort of sick cycle or am I just not a good enough player to advance to a higher MMR bracket?

Holy poo poo am I tired of people just sitting in their lanes and just letting teams easily push towers rather than carrying TP stones.

I'm getting the feeling more and more that it's about playing with the same people more. The open search generally shoves bad people in with good. It of course means that people like me can get 1500+ games, but I know exactly how you feel when I get dumped in as blue with 700 rating dorks sucking it up in the other lanes.

These players are still present in the 1600 range so you have a long way to go. Like some players have said, become good at semi-carries but my tip was always get good at ganker heroes. I think you can raise a few MMR just by playing and getting good at heroes such as Magmus. Also, if you're playing AP, getting Hag mid (and having the skill required) can easily boost you a couple points. Buy yourself a ward because if you don't control the runes you might as well CC.

Also, go with the flow. If you know the team won't defend a tower, push the lane you're in and bam, one creep wave and a tower and you have 400g in a matter of a few seconds.

Kind of. Ultimately there's no substitute for just improving until you bring yourself up by averages. That said if you want to jump a bracket, the best thing I've ever heard on the subject is that you can't just win for yourself and expect it to win the whole game; you have to benefit your team as well.

The easiest ways to do this are to play a mid ganker and always carry TP so you can countergank, i.e. help your teammates win their lanes. Another option is playing push heroes like Keeper or Pollywog (Pollywog fits into both categories really) and taking out the outer towers as quickly as possible.

Tremble is also a solid pick for carrying yourself out of lower brackets, hes a strong mid hero/ganker/carry/pusher. Shudder can backdoor towers and rax pretty easily, and you can constantly do that if you hide mounds behind the trees near each tier 2 tower (except for legions bot, but try putting a mound on their ward cliff then, next to the hard camp).

There's actually a great spot in the far lower-right corner of the map to stick a Tremble mound, mirroring (though not identical) to the one on the opposite side for Hellbourne. It's south of the secret shop, and you've got a small opening in the trees to get in and out without making it visible from the lane.

Yea, but thats pretty far away from legions base. If you're trying to backdoor it helps to have it a lot closer, so you dont have to hide from creepwaves.

We stall out and lose late game because woops can't really carry with martyr. Our swiftblade cries about how we "didn't gank valk" and how he "had no farm" all game.
