I gave up this game for a month or so after a really lovely several games in a row and dealing with the idiot community. On a whim I decided to see what the heroes look like, and this new one seems just ridiculous. Maybe not overpowered, but with a bunch of tools to her that I think I'd get some fun out of. Unfortunately, that means I'd gonna have to start playing the game again. I can't think of a game I have such a love/hate relationship with as HoN.

I've decided that the best way to get good at something is to pick something you're awful at and stick with it for a while. So when I get back to where I have a connection that can play this game, here's looking forward to several dozen Geomancer matches.

Hey, this may be a dumb question from a dumb guy, but that new character, Artesia, what is the viability of running her in the jungle--after you hit level 2? If I'm looking at her abilities right, her one sends out attacks whenever she's casting a spell, and another one channels and restores HP. So can she just.... dance around in enemy camps and take them out that way? (DISCLAIMER: I haven't actually seen the hero, nor can I access her yet. Also, I'm terrible at HoN.)

I might try something like that, but honestly, I'm still very much picking up the basics of this game. Every time I want to learn it, I play for a week or so then rage quit for a while. I'm slowly getting better, I guess, but man the community for this game is something else.

I keep thinking "Combos! An ultimate that vectors!" and trying him out, and then I have matches where I'll go 0/7/0.

But the fourth horseman is Strife, not Pestilence. Pestilence was a plague cast down by Moses on the Egyptians. Or they could go the Metallica/Megadeth route and make the last one "Time"... so... Cronos?

I've offered to get kicked from games where I'm feeding so badly, but only because I'm the worst HoN player ever. After 46 games with all options enabled, I finally had something other than all-pick pop up, and this time it was Single Draft. It was.... an interesting experience. I ended up picking Revenant and having the GODLIKE score of 2-13-16. I think I'd very much like the hero if, you know, I was good enough at any aspect of the game to justify it---Tell me it gets better, and I'm not simply too old to "get" HoN. I've played almost fifty games now and I'm still somewhere between "a wash" and "a liability" to my team.

Dre2Dee2 posted:Well that certainly wouldn't help. Are you a verified account? That helps cut down smurfs by a lot. Also play Matchmaking, public games is a total free for all. Yeah. I actually have a legacy account. I dunno how many games I had when I first played (before Matchmaking was even a thing), but I had to relearn everything, and I have completely different main heroes, now. I don't think I've been playing verified only matches. I didn't know if that cut down on Smurfs or if it cut down on Free-to-play guys. I don't want to face the first one, but I figure the second one would be---if nothing else, a confidence boost.

Heh. I'd like to see that, actually. My favorite thing in Public play is "Middle is always solo". Got a squishy carry going 1v1 against Torturer? You're stealing his XP, even if your presence gives him way the gently caress more gold.

General consensus from a few streams and a friend in the 1600s seems to be 'farm heroes, get lifesteal and damage and roll their team'. Oh, man. I play Empath a bunch, and I just realized that Berzerker would be one of the most fun people to partner up with. You cannot flee my giant man. I have built a wall, good sir.

Started playing verified only today. Disappointed to see that so far, if anything, it is even MORE full of horrendous whiners/team blamers. Played some new heroes. I think I might really enjoy Voodoo Jester, but his ult is going to take some getting used to.

OK, what do you do in a lane if you're pretty much guaranteed to die if you're hit by anything? Like, a lane with two stuns, or just one good stun and one good damager. ALSO: How do you not take constant harass if you're melee against a ranged hero? If you have a ranged buddy, should he be counter harassing? Is that an actual thing? I've had a few games where I can't do poo poo because if I get too close to the creeps, I eat a bunch of auto attacks. ~~~ Been having moderate (Re: ANY) success lately with Revenant. Possible second favorite hero? Perhaps. Very into the buffs that go to your whole team once you get your passive ult. Nice being a sort of Support that also has quite a lot of damage to spew out, too.

Is there a reason other than "Tradition" that these style of games still have the RTS style control? I mean, sure, it was initially an RTS mod---but I sort of think the game would be a lot more fun if it had a sense of control that was more akin to other top-down games, like a Diablo, or a Nox, or even a Bastion.

It's also a great team for making the new guy rage. "N00b Deadwood." "Look at this newb killing my trees. Welp. We lose. GGWP" (Kinesis Disconnected) Wow, the last time I raged at this game (recently!) I stayed away from looking at anything, and there've been two heroes showcased during that time. I guess I'm getting ready to try again. I feel like someone who tried acid once, had a really, really bad trip, and decided "You know what I think I'll take up again? Acid".

I haven't played all that much or been around all that long, but she seems like the game's "Ryu"---the character to which other characters are compared to for game balance, as opposed to a character that's broken one way or another.

drat it. Why'd I have to watch that spotlight for Bramble? That's like.... this is like the character I've been waiting for. Actually, every new hero feels that way, and then I play HoN again and bang my head into my desk until I wake up a few months later. Still, as someone who favors Empath, largely because her loving Wall is the only ability in the game I can seriously use correctly, that ultimate has me licking my chops.
