Two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight and barbecue your own drumsticks!

I am intrigued by this game. I really liked Kingdom Hearts, and enjoyed Kingdom Hearts II up to a point. Got burned out right before the final boss and never picked it back up. :sigh: I hated the GBA one. I ended up just watching all the cutscenes from it on YouTube right before I got KHII.

And I haven't played a KH game since. Has anybody ever LP'ed Birth By Sleep, or something? I don't own a PSP and I have no plans to get one (especially not for one game).

I'll have to keep an eye out for the 3DS game. Looks pretty boss, and I'd love to get back into the series. Though, I admit I liked it better when it was just about exploring the different Disney worlds. About 2/3 of the way through the first one, it just seemed like the designers suddenly decided the game was supposed to be all dark or something, and they just kept going in that direction. Plus the plot. Jesus Christ the plot...

Is there a list of all of the Final Mix stuff from the first two games? I'll probably never play those versions but I'm interested as to what was added.

KH3D has me excited since I've been out of the KH loop since II and I always loved the games but my DS didn't see much use when those games came out and I don't remember them getting the greatest reviews. I plan on playing through them again, were they worth it? The sperg inside me wants to replay the first two, run through the DS titles and maybe watch an LP of CoM and BBS (since I hated the card system and won't ever own a PSP) just for the story. Not like it'll ever make any loving sense anyway.

Nice OP!

Kingdom Hearts is one of my top 3 favourite video game series.
I fell in love with the series from the first time playing KH1 in 2002.

I've played and beaten all the games to come out over here (Would love to play the Final Mixes, but I don't feel like going through the process of buying the stuff necessary, I'll just look the things up online) and somehow I manage to keep a decent track of the storyline.

I am ridiculously excited for 3D, day-1 purchase for sure. the TWEWY cast makes it even better.
And I hope BBS vol. 2 happens, because Aqua is definitely my favourite character. so more of her story would be great.

So, this thread could be a good place for me.

Two quick questions for KH2:
Where do you go after timeless river? No new worlds have opened except the first colosseum thing and I don't feel I could manage it without leveling up more first.
Second, can you change difficulty in game? I started on Proud and while it's not terrible I'd kinda rather play leisurely.

Off the top of my head... (may contain some spoilers)

KH Final Mix:
- The Heartless are colored differently for no reason.
- Added in a bunch of American-only stuff, including fights with Ice Titan, Sephiroth, Phantom, and Kurt Zisa. However, the first two now yield brand new Keyblades.
- Moved around a few trinity locations, and getting all of them actually does something now (completing the journal unlocks Deep Dive)
- A couple new Synth items that I can't think of
- New Gummi Ship missions which were dumb as hell, you have to like meet certain conditions when flying between worlds and you'd unlock silly parts like a giant wheel.
- New attack abilities that were kinda bizarre and never showed up again in the series (like a stun blast as your finisher and weird poo poo like that) but some that came back like Leaf Veil.
- cutscene and Boss battle with Unknown, which was retconned in as being SUPER IMPORTANT! You see, Unknown is Xemnas and immediately after the battle he walks through a portal, into the Realm of Darkness, and says to another mysterious cloaked fellow, "I've been to see him. He looks a lot like you." (aka the very first thing you see in KHII)
- Special new Heartless that are unique to each world and can only be defeated in special ways (usually a silly minigame) that drop ultra-rare synth ingredients.
- Extended Secret Movie, "Deep Dive," which hints around at Organization XIII and Roxas a bit.

KHII Final Mix+
- Re:Chain of Memories, a complete 3D remake of Chain of Memories with voice acting and stuff. Released in the US as a stand alone budget title in Dec 2008.
- Critical Difficulty, which makes you get less HP from Bonus levels, and the enemies are insanely powerful. You also start with a ton of abilities including "Zero EXP" if you wanna do a lv 1 run!
- Tweaked the levels you learn abilities, and changed around the abilities and stats of some Keyblades. Also there are a few new Keyblades including Two Become One, a Roxas themed Keyblade.
- Absent Silhouettes, which let you refight the Org members that died in Re:Chain and unlock more Bonus Levels and poo poo.
- You now actually fight Roxas when you get to the end of The Castle That Never Was instead of it just being a cutscene, and it is insanely difficult.
- A new Drive Form, Limit Form, which turns you into Sora from the first game, along with all his special abilities. (Ars Arcanum, Ragnarok, Zantetsuken, Sonic Blade, Strike Raid) Also, leveling it up gives you DODGE ROLL!!!!
- New Gummi Ship Missions which are really hard and have ridiculous conditions (like make a ship that fits into a 3x3x3 cube) but reward you with really amazing parts.
- The Cavern of Remembrance, a super hard optional area that has brand new Heartless, tons of awesome platforming that requires all of your Drive Forms to be maxed out, rare items, and ends in a room that let's you refight every single Organization member.
- The Mushroom XIII, goofy Mushrooms that make you play little minigames and reward you if you score high enough.
- A ridiculously over-powered super boss, Lingering Spirit, who is actually Terra's armor and oh god he's so loving hard.
- If you beat every Org member refight, clear every Mushroom XIII challenge, and beat Lingering Spirit, you unlock the Super Secret Movie, "Birth By Sleep." You'll never guess what it is!

For posterity, Birth By Sleep Final Mix: (I did have to look these up)
- Added the new stuff from the American version (Lingering Spirit Vanitas drops the Void Gear, Unknown fight, higher quality facial animations, Critical difficulty, Skull Board in Command Board, Pete D-Link, Castle Circuit in Rumble Racing, the sticker album side quest, "Destiny Islands" song in Ice Cream Beat)
- Rhythm Mixer Command Style, which is literally the funniest thing ever.
- The Unversed have different colors for no reason.
- New commands: Union Rush and Voltage Stack.
- Illusion commands, which are received from doing Unversed Missions that appear in worlds after completing them. These commands turn you into certain Unversed and let you do their moves.
- New Mirage Arena battles: Monster of the Deep, Mentor of Light, and Foresight unto Darkness. The first has you fight Monstro in a really annoying as gently caress battle. The second has you fighting The Armor of the Master aka Eraqus's Armor in an incredibly fun boss fight. And the third has you fight No Heart, which is Xehanort's Armor, and it incredibly hard.
- The Secret Movie becomes a Secret Episode which you can play through. It hints at a possible Birth By Sleep Vol. 2

That was off the top of my head... kill me now.

Also I promise you all, I am planning on LPing Birth By Sleep soon, I just have to finish doing 358/2 Days. And then I will do Re:coded after that. I do wish there were legit LPs for Re:Chain and KHII Final Mix, though... someone started one of the latter and abandoned it after like two updates.

EDIT: I added links to all KH LPs in the OP (there are only 4!) and I think I'm gonna copy/paste these lists into there too because they are pretty detailed

But I think I like it here.
I love these games, no matter what flak I get from my friends. There's just something about them that just sits so right with me. The boss battles in KH2 are so intense and fun, particularly against Organization 13. I think beating Xaldin on Proud mode was the hardest thing I have ever done. I always thought these games should have a boss mode, so you can repeat any fight you want.

The secret movie for BBS always makes me tear up a bit. Dearly Beloved is a fantastic song.

Technical EXP was one of my favorite aspects of the first game, I thought it was a super cool idea since it rewarded you for finding enemies' weaknesses and the special tactics to beat bosses. In Final Mix there is an ability that you can get that increases the amount of Technical EXP you get, it was called Tech Up and you could equip four of them.

It's not like the PS2's region lock is particularly hard to overcome, though. If you're an RPG fan and live in Europe you really ought to have a way to play US PS2 games, there's a ton of great RPGs that never got released over here -- and those that did often run at 50Hz without any optimization (so 16% slower than they should).

I'd say 15-30 hours per storyline, so 30-60 total, depending on how much grinding you do for cards and stuff. It's not a tough game to just power through, though.

Unless you're like me and always play on the hardest difficulty :smug: though Re:Chain only has Proud and it isn't too bad, I never died as Sora and died as Riku twice to Zexion which is the best boss fight and worth playing the whole game for.
