In my current game, I can't find the sixth piece of lore (the "key" to Sher'tul) in the Old Forest. I understand that this is supposed to be in level 4 of Old Forest, but I've searched the level thoroughly and still can't find the final missing journal entry. In this current game, there's a huge vault of thieves and trolls in level 4 of Old Forest. Could this be why the journal entry is missing? Is there any way to edit or add the journal entry back in?

#1 annoyance: Autoexplore constantly broken by lovely, meaningless traps #2 annoyance: Selling stuff. They seem to have gone out of their way to remove boring gameplay tasks (no potions/scrolls, all items are id'd and of a certain minimal usefulness with no garbage items), but you still have to pick up crap loot to haul back to town and sell. Not too bad I suppose, those two just stuck out since most other aspects are fairly smooth.

Not to defend this per se since I agree it's pretty annoying, but it's alleviated by the Transmogrification Chest. Once you get it on one character it becomes a birth item that you get on all of them, making it much easier to get gold for items.

More than alleviated, really - loot is automatically picked up, weighs nothing, and a list is displayed at the end where you pick which ones you keep while the rest are automatically sold for full store prices. (except for ammo, for some odd reason, where you get 5 gold for selling a stack of 150 in the chest, but 15 gold in a store.. though that quickly becomes irrelevant, especially considering how heavy ammo can get)

Was I only supposed to get poo poo for one of the alchemists to get a better ending to the quest? It just petered out into nothing aside from the couple potions I got.

At the end of the Old Forest, there's a path to Lake Nur, and do a dungeon there. The boss at the end of the lake dungeon is pretty awful, though. High healing and magic damage.

Speaking of selling, are you supposed to get horribly ripped off by shopkeepers? I swear they charge 10 to 20 times as much for an item than you'd get for selling it. I could go with double the price, but this is kinda ridiculous.

Not really, or at least I haven't. You can easily get between islands on the lake and bubbles in the submerged portion without ever going below 50 air. The enemies in the water part have little health, so they should be pretty easy to blast through even if you get surrounded.

Going to answer a bunch of questions on this page... On auto-explore, trap improvements are on the to do list I believe. Not that that really makes auto-explore break less but at least it should be breaking on evil traps instead of meaningless ones. As to not selling items, it was tried (gold drops were increased as well as gem value) but some people bitched about not being able sell all their loot so the Transmog chest was put in to give the best of both worlds. I liked not having to sell everything myself. The alchemist quest lines will complete one random potion from one of the other alchemists every time you turn one in. So if you're working for multiple alchemists it's possible you can screw yourself out of the final rewards but on the other hand you get to be pickier about which potions you get. I personally won't do Lake of Nur without water breathing or magic mapping of some kind + a targeted teleport of some kind. I've lost a few characters in there just trying to wing it. I know a lot of players feel it's not that hard though so YMMV. JosephWongKS, I know at least in earlier betas lore and items could generate in empty spaces behind trees. In other words, inaccessable terrain without a digger. Otherwise you can activate the debugger by going to (on windows)C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\T-Engine\4.0\settings and creating a file called cheat.cfg. Inside that file you want to put a single line that says cheat = true (you may need to use Notepad ++ to do this I'm not sure). Then when in the game you'll want to bind the debug menu to a hotkey and pull it up. I'm pretty sure you can create every piece of lore from there, otherwise you can teleport around the map and look for it with control+right click I believe. Once your done you'll want to disable the cheat file (changing the file name will work) to keep your characters updating in the vault (if that matters to you). Sorry if any of that info is wrong, I'm a bit rusty.

I'd suggest simply removing useless traps entirely, leaving only meaningful ones in lower quantities. Not sure what -5hp for three turns adds to the game really.

I love the variety in this game. I unlocked an underwater fortress complete with a ghost butler, ate the still-beating heart of a sandworm queen under the desert, then stumbled into a temporal rift and got completely wrecked by a gang of tentacled men that confused and stunned me.

I seem to have bugged out. I went down a staircase and got stunned or something, which made my hotbar with my skills on it vanish. I went back up the steps, and now my bar isn't coming back. I can hit the button the skills were assigned to, and they work, but I can't change skills or see what the assignments are. Pressing tab does nothing.

I was mortified about ToME after playing an early version of 3 and it being more boring than the kitchen-sink-band it was to replace. ToME2 was admittedly long in the tooth and only had its prodigious classes and world to fend off against more serious -bands and dungeon crawl. 4 is so much more promising. I haven't played Dredmor since release to see if they've implemented some of the ease of use stuff that plagued it by absence, but ToME4 already beats it with dungeon themes.

I really like alchemist but I was getting fed up with those loving crystal monsters. So I switched to human, since I didn't know until someone mentioned here that different races have different starts. Trollmire was much more reasonable, until I moved a rock and got destroyed by bears because my idiot golem felt the need to step out of the bottleneck.

Welp. Lesson learnt from my last game: don't gently caress with the adventurer party that roams around on the world map. I'd just unlocked the transmogrification chest and was feeling pretty badass so I thought I'd take them on. Got some caster 1v1 behind some trees and demolished him, then stepped out and was instantly blinded and hit for over half my HP by a berserker. I figured he couldn't hit me that hard twice in a row so I hit my regen infusion and got killed by the next hit.

Thinking of starting a melee character, but where do I start the antimagic quests? I found a scroll, once, that mentioned how magic was evil or something and to watch out for pointy ears, sour milk, some nonsense like that, but I've seen nothing else.

There's a town called Zigur on the world map, kind of near Last Hope, that only appears for non-magic characters. If you go there you've got to fight an arena of magic users to gain all the antimagic stuff. It's kind of tough, do it around 20 I think.

There's a town called Zigur to the north-west of Last-Hope. If you enter the main map with any of the magic resources (Mana, Postive/Negative to name a few), then it'll be hidden from you. The enemies they make you fight are around level 25 if I remember correctly. I'm pretty sure you're supposed to do it after having saved Derth from the air-elementals.

I like the whole unlocking race and class choices thing. I think it is a good system to help ease people into the game. Plus I think meta-game goals in a roguelike is a good way for them to go. The trick is making it so, technically, you could win on the first game of a new account, but that as you play you will unlock new choices. Desktop Dungeons does a similar thing and I like it there too I am enjoying Tome 4 so far. I am terrible at it, but that isn't a surprise to me. I feel like this is getting close to just the level of random/static parts of the game that I prefer.

I'm not sure what I did differently this time, but I rolled another human alchemist and beat the poo poo out of Bill. This is cool but I'm not sure exactly how equipping the golem works. I pick an item and it changes to a grey, non-magic version of itself? Or, oh, is that what the golem already held?
