Maybe the nuances in their humor only apply to Koreans living in Korea. At the very least, they are supposed to be rookie comedians so maybe some slack should be cut their way.

It really added a weird surreal element to the episode, though. Reminded me of The Shining.

Watching episode 57 right now. Episode wasn't very good until Cha Tae Hyun eats the last of the pink team's river snails. The way he laughs at them after telling them they'll just have to order another is just hilarious. Then the guy laughs even harder when they get up and come after blue team's food. I am seriously taking a liking to this dude. The whole situation had me cracking up.

Hey, i'm not dead! Only ill. Episode 40: Location: Petite France Guests: Nichkhun (3rd App.), Taecyeon (Idol, 2PM) 1 2 3 4 5 You know, I’m honestly not sure I’d consider those outfits gorgeous. After the guests get their very cool entrance, we go straight into the first mission, which is basically leading on from the last episode; the members must complete a task (here, collecting Little Prince costumes) while the guests attempt to get them out, with the only real differences being the members now knowing in advance what’s up, and going back to ripping off nametags rather than handprinting them. I love the irony of Gwang-Soo pretty correctly calling Jong-Kook a coward. Using the long coats to hide the non-out people at the jail was great, especially when they started celebrating too early and Taecyeon wandered back. Gwang-Soo’s escape attempt and all that ended up resulting from it was pretty awesome; it’s not really accurate to say he’s coming into his own, since he did that many episodes ago, but it’s nice to see that he’s still trying new things (even if it just means new things to fail at). And then we have the jailbirds managing to get all the randomers to join a conga line, which is simply hilarious and unexpected, especially Jae-Suk coming to regret it. And once again we end up with the game riding on Ji-Hyo. The only other game this episode. The members are put into teams have to arrange and perform a musical piece – as you may be able to guess from past musical efforts, these (apart from the guests) are not necessarily the most instrumentally inclined people. As with the university episode, each member gets to pick possibly talented people to join them, only this time it’s from the crew, which includes some familiar faces from past episodes. Kwon Ryeol finally being the one to provoke Jong-Kook is pretty great, but this is largely the Staff Monday Couple’s show. It’s good to know that even in South Korea kids get a steady musical diet of School recorder. Jong-Kook’s team repeatedly managing to gently caress up the scales is probably a good idea of what to expect here, and I love the fact that both teams seem to spend more time on the actual performance and style and other details and very little actually practicing their songs. Gwang-Soo’s little sneaking solo mission amounting to him both failing and getting their practiced intro stolen is probably the funniest thing in this episode. Finally, the performances themselves, which I don’t believe I can put into words. Revenant Threshold fucked around with this message at Mar 14, 2012 around 23:57 |

I really enjoyed Ep 40 as well, despite JK not being at 100% and Ji Hyo looking sick as hell. I think the random conga line sums up everything that is good and beautiful about Running Man.

TV Zombie posted:Maybe the nuances in their humor only apply to Koreans living in Korea. At the very least, they are supposed to be rookie comedians so maybe some slack should be cut their way. No, not really. As it's already been said, most of the humor is from the whole "speak Korean that sounds like Chinese" bit, but the humor/novelty wears off really fast after the first few viewings. It's a somewhat obvious move on SBS's part to pump their late-night comedy show. The duo's not as popular as the RM ep's introduction would have you believe; their corner is one of the best-known ones in the comedy show, but the show itself isn't and gets pretty bad ratings. Gag Concert (KBS) is king, of course, and then, surprisingly for Korean TV, cable channel TvN's Comedy Big League is probably next on the popularity scale.

Holy poo poo. Upcoming unaired Running Man spoiler. BoA! They got BoA! The caliber of the guests they get for this show is no loving joke. Thoughts on the last couple episodes. I've come to the conclusion that any shows with SNSD members in it is going to be gold. YoonA and Sunny were solid in their ability to stealthily get out a bunch of people, and then when they were identified, taunting and chasing the others to get them out. Jae Suk's disguise was hilarious. Jae Suk in general is hilarious, and I loved his little greasy expression to Sunny when they were picking teams for the snacks mission. Episode 41: Location: National Digital Library of Korea, Haha’s Apartment Guests: Lee Sun-Gyun (Actor), Park Joong-Hoon (Actor) 1 2 3 4 5 Big episode this time round, for a couple of reasons. We’ve got another change to the beginning member hunt for the episode today; the guests are on separate teams, and once they capture someone, they’re on their team (and immediately so, so they can join in the hunt, too). It’s an interesting idea; you could go for someone incredibly easy to start with, and have a high chance of catching them, but they’re not going to provide much benefit for your team. Whereas if you could catch Jong-Kook you’d have a great partner - but you do have to catch the guy. Also Joong-Hoon has hilariously messed up before the episode and given the game away as to not only himself but his fellow guest – it’s nice to see celebrities cocking up like this now and again. Suk-Jin is pretty hilarious in this first mission, managing to both get himself exiled from the member’s hiding room (even if that does benefit him) and then getting the brunt of Jae-Suk’s “this is for your own good!” attack and being utterly bewildered by it. I liked the Monday Couple randomly both getting a whack on the head in this episode, and Jae-Suk twice taking off his team jacket to try and trick people and it twice failing. And that leads into the extended melee and arguments about who’s team Jong-Kook should be on, which is hilarious. Poor Gwang-Soo and his bin. The next mission starts with uneven teams, and this episode’s running joke that Jong-Kook is actually his team’s maknae. And this another of those occasions where I’ve probably laughed hardest at this show; the task is to correctly identify and collect the items that their survey pegged as people most wanting in their dream library. The trick is the location where they’re going to be selecting the items from, and really the reveal of it (both to us, and to the members, especially the one you’d expect) is incredibly funny. First we have another chain drawing game, which in any other episode would probably be a highlight, since the member’s drawing skill really hasn’t improved any. And then it’s off to the location, and you may remember Geun-Shik popping up a few episodes ago in the fake friends mission. And really, this segment just gets better and better the more they pick this place clean. And it’s a return for the lottery to decide who gets to sit out on the punishment. But that’s not the final thing, of course, as you may have guessed from the significant amount left in the video. Episode 41 was Joong-Ki’s last appearance as a regular member. It’s not that surprising – he had to sit out a few episodes towards the beginning thanks to drama shoots, and he’s certainly in demand, so it’s not really all that unexpected in retrospect. He wasn’t the most necessary member at times, and people in the thread have talked about how he sometimes doesn’t stand out too much as compared to some other members; I’d certainly say out of all the members he crops up by name probably the least in these recaps. But it’s still a shame to see the guy go; much more so since you can tell by his and the other members’ reactions that they’re going to miss each other. I really digged the way they approached this version of hide and seek and am surprised they haven't done it more often since. I could see it not being as good the second time around, as the cast members would probably realize quickly what's going on. Kwang soo going to greet KJK as the maknae of the other group was the funniest thing, I really think that he is the best out of all the members at improvising and making jokes on the spot. That or the RM writing staff has a very carefully crafted persona made for him. Ah Joong Ki. I still stand by my first impression of him early in the thread; you don't really notice a ton when he's gone, the chemistry doesn't change at all. That being said, it's a shame he found the whole "I'm not as good as I say I am" angle this late in the series. He could have really gone places with it given more time. While he wasn't entertaining by himself (only YJS and Kwang Soo can do this on a consistent basis), he was good when the others interacted with him. After you watch a guy for a good 40 or so episodes, he feels like he's part of a family and it's sad to see him go.

I'm watching episode 79 and I am absolutely in love with the guests. Not sure if the humor will extend to the non-Korean speakers but I absolutely love their pseudo-Chinese Korean. Not too sure about the dog suit but the Chinese accent is hilarious and reminds me of my childhood when I would pretend to speak Chinese by speaking Korean with a Chinese accent.

The hide-and-seek segment wasn't particularly interesting either. You could kind of tell that the RM cast wasn't trying their best in an effort to stretch things out. Haha, Gary, and Ji Hyo playing rock-paper-scissor to let the last guy get away was so obviously fake and their reactions kind of made me roll my eyes. I think overall the episode suffered from being a bit too by-the-book. Hopefully next week's 2nd half will be more interesting.

I had some fun watching Episode 84. There were some great moments, like DaeSung ordering TOP around and Kwang Soo imitating/mocking Jong Kook at any chance he got. In terms of Big Bang themselves, does anyone even like their music? Their stuff is definitely well produced, but it's so derivative. Seems to be riffing on American RnB just a bit too much. The only thing I really take notice of is DaeSung's solo stuff, he has such a beautiful voice. It's a shame his solo on the new album is so dull. Also, I legit cried at Episode 41, especially when seeing Kwang Soo tear up.

Lyer, that's one of my favourite episodes too, for the same reason. He's just so good at it. Episode 42: Location: SBS Broadcasting Center, SBS Tanhyeon-dong Production Center Guests: None. [Heo Young-Saeng, Kim Mi-Sook, Jang Hyuk, Kim Yoon-Soo] 1 2 3 4 We start off this episode with probably one of the meaner first tasks. The Running Men arrive separately – and in fact, they’ll be separate for the entirety of the episode – and have to correctly pick the key which goes with their named car in order to set off. Which means a lot of running in and out of the building. I’m surprised they didn’t put coloured dots or something on them just so they’d know when they were trying the same key twice; I’m less surprised they almost immediately figured out it would be quicker to switch at the bottom, though it was pretty funny when the instigators of the key swap both ended up helping others and not themselves. The various means the members use to get the information are interesting, with Jae-Suk’s hilariously circuituous route to getting the right guy’s phone number being great, especially compared to Ji-Hyo just straight-up being told where he currently was, and in the end there’s a surprising amount of cheating and backstabbing for what could have been a very simple mission. I liked Jae-Suk being suspicious enough at this point that he thought giving his autograph was a secret mission. Once they all end up arriving in order, the main mission starts – it’s the chasing game, except everyone is on their own team and can get anyone else out, though as you’d guess there’s a lot of politicking and temporary group forming. They also bring back the permutations on the nametags, with Gary secretly given two, and poor Gwang-Soo gets a tail. Ji-Hyo and Jae-Suk exchanging threatening moves was pretty funny, but the best part of this section is Jong-Kook and the utterly panicked reactions to him, especially when he’s on the phone and the other members realizes that somewhere, he’s out there, and them basically realizing that they’re all going to have to work together to get him out. And the final winner is probably someone you wouldn’t really expect.
