I have been thinking about this for quite some time... can anyone actually pinpoint when the show became so much less personal, with the members being so spread out all of the time? I rewatched episode 22 earlier today after seeing Siwon in the newest episode and it became so much more obvious that there is something missing in the newer episodes. I like how ambitious the writers are being, but it still seems it would be nice to take a step back. There is still room for creativity without having to travel around so much.

Kwang Soo really is the Chun Hee of Running man, but to a certain degree, so is Ji Hyo. Chun Hee had the same thing at the beginning of Family outing where Hyori and Yejin picked him as #1 at the end of the episode, but gradually dropped as they became more familiar. Interesting how much of a strong role Suk Jin has in these early episodes, most noticeable thing being how he managed to basically place himself as team captain over Jong Kook, even after arriving late. I think he just found his place a lot quicker than most of the cast due to being a variety veteran. The problem is, he lost that advantage once the rest of the members did. Peaceful Gary was hilarious in this episode. Am I remembering correctly that it gets even funnier in the next episode couple? Ji Hyo's Engrish is adorable. TEERANOSORUSOO! TOORANSOFOMA! Also loved Hara's answer to the "Who invented the telephone?" question. Really enjoying rewatching the older episodes along with the thread. How often will we be watching them?

While the newest episode was a bit lacking, I still enjoyed it. I will agree it was a bit one sided, but were the writers and producers expecting the members to find the golden boat? Also, I didn't even have a "worst episode" in mind until people brought up episode 23...yeah, it's pretty much the worst. The next episode looks like it's going to be great.

Episode 77 was awesome! IU's morning call was so so so cute. It was also impressive how well she was singing live, although she did have the backing track to help her. Sang Wook's laugh never stopped being funny. I love how Jaesuk is able to tease people just the right amount to make them more funny and bring out their character, but without actually annoying them. Blue team seemed to only be in the episode about a minute before the finale. I guess Suk Jin is always destined to be edited out.

This really has to be one of the best episodes. I love it when they spend a little less time running and more time just pissing about. So many great sections, but also so many hilarious little parts. Suk Jin's constant cheating, Yong Hwa's revival attempts, Jae Suk holding his arms by his side after Haha tickled him, Ji Hyo losing immediately in the word game with her adorable blank face.

If we're talking about upcoming episodes we love, Episode 22 is one of my favourites. Siwon's excited expressions and movements during the toy buying game were so funny and the sound effects to match were perfect. The 1 vs. 10 mission itself wasn't incredible, but the acting segments used as distraction were all hilarious. Jaesuk's "serious expression" has to be one of the funniest things I've ever seen. Then Kim Jong Min's KEUDAEYEOOOOOOO in the chasing game and his vehemence after not winning a single running ball, ripping the socks off each member of the opposing team after arriving late each time. If I had created my top 10 when it was appropriate, this one would definitely be on it.

Is this really the first appearance of Dong Wan? It's kinda weird seeing him as he was then compared to his pretty much expected appearances now. Byung Man has to be one of the greatest guests. But in case you guys didn't know, the actual Korean nickname literally translates to: "One with skill, competence", but carries a nuance of power/force that "Commander" does. I'm struggling to find any word that would be fitting to use as the translated English nickname for KJK that has the same ring as Commander, so props to the iSub team. Revenant Threshold posted:Occasionally, when it's more appropriate, they do refer to him as being the "competent" KJK or things along those lines, since Commander doesn't work entirely in all situations. But it's nice to know it's an effective translation; the only other term I can think of that might work would be "Master", but that seems to take things a bit too far (not to mention there's probably already a Korean word that is usually translated as that). Yeah, sometimes he's "The capable one" and sometimes "That man", but I think the second one has more to do with one of his songs.

Episode 81 It's done by a new sub group/guy that seems to be just as fast as kshownow, if not faster, with better quality and more options for viewing. Fantastic episode, great set up. Was awesome to see Gary in places I've actually been to. I didn't get to meet him, but at least I can find his signature on (G)Abbey Road next time I'm there. It was also nice to see the members co-operating with each other a lot more, even when it was obvious they didn't need to. A lot of great moments, especially the Ee-Yu-Ji ones. So much to mention in this episode, but a small highlight for me was the coin block noise when Jaesuk knocked the hidden box off the light. Perfect placement.

The basketball game alone makes this episode fantastic. It's awesome how they all follow the rules to a certain degree, but only as much as would still be funny. I'm trying to wrestle my brain into figuring out what TITTY SAMBO could possibly mean. No luck so far. Does anyone follow the Running man confessions tumblr? It's mostly just innocuous posts, some reminding me of great moments, some with people making random guest wishes, but recently there have been too many posts regarding JiHyo's relationship and how these nutjobs hate her forever. Seriously, every second post is "I lost respect for her", "Running man will never be the same again" or "It's like she's cheating." The whole things seems to have blown over with the non-crazies, especially after the most recent episode, but these people don't seem to want to let their imaginary, but not to them, relationships die.

qbert posted:The thing I love about IC over RM though (and there are plenty of things I love about RM over IC as well) is that because there's really no set format to follow, you get a much greater diversity of "missions" per episode. One week it could be some sort of elimination challenge 'Running Man' style, the next week they could all decide to take up farming. Then the following week they may decide to learn a sport like bobsledding or boxing or rowing, and then the week after that they may decide to fly to Alaska and drive around trying to speak broken English. It's like a mystery box of what random/hilarious situation the viewer will get from week to week. It really is a fantastic show. I've got myself a big batch of episodes to run through, the ones I've seen so far have all been hilarious. I always had Park Myung Soo across as a bit of a bumbling idiot who can be funny sometimes, but he's actually seriously witty. While Yoo Jae Suk is obviously more organised and the show wouldn't work at all without him, I'd say PMS may be funnier than him as a whole. One of the things I prefer about IC over Running man is that there is a lot less involvement by the production team. There is usually just a concept given at the start and the members are just made to run with it. There is a lot more involvement in Running man with new instructions being given at each stage, although this isn't always the case as the newest episode shows. Another difference that can have differing results is that IC usually sticks with one thing per episode (or even a set of episodes), whereas Running man has the broken up format with missions moving from one stage to the next, with mini-games in between. The mini-games are often the best part of Running man for me, but it's nice to see one concept that was given a lot of thought and just letting the members run with it and see it build into something awesome. It's a shame there isn't a group out there who is able to keep up like with Running man. It would be great even if they were a few weeks behind. I do think the sub job would have to be done a lot better than kshownow though, IC really relies on a good translation of the gags for it to work. sharktamer fucked around with this message at Feb 17, 2012 around 05:41 |

Realised no one posted the actual link: Running man episode 82 I doubt I'm in the minority when I say that episode was absolutely fantastic, I'd go as far to say it's an immediate favourite. It was a bit of a slow start, but immediately got awesome with the initial mini-games. As soon as Jong Kook and Gwang Soo were paired together, it was obvious we were in for some good laughs. Kwang Soo throwing away the hackey sack game to soak Jong Kook was especially hilarious. The editing in the beginning mini-games was especially good, standout moments being the slow motion shots of Suk Jin failing hard at the balloon game, then Kwang Soo failing even harder followed by the tiger and kangaroo overlays on Jong Kook and Kwang Soo. Also, I don't think many would disagree when I say that Da Hae was an absolutely incredible guest, maybe one of the best out of all. In terms of actually taking part in the actual final mission, I don't think we've seen much better. The bit where she was driving Jae Suk mad by being too obvious must have went on for about 15 actual minutes, but it was hilarious from beginning to end. It really seemed like she was going to be another guest for the sake of a guest, only really being half there, but she really exceeded my expectations (and then some). The mission itself was also perfectly executed, with a lot of help from Da Hae herself. Another thing worth mentioning is that it has been almost 50 episodes since the first spy mission and it seems like since then, the writers have been using it as a bit of a crutch. This was the perfect opportunity to put the whole spy theme to rest, I really hope it actually happens. This episode had some really strange music choices. The home improvement theme tune was perfect for the moment, but surely Koreans would recognise the Simpsons theme? Felt really out of place, but that might just be me being as familiar with it as any westerner would be. I have mentioned before that I was worried with the show recently. It seemed like the golden age had passed, but this episode has definitely proved me wrong. Running man is as good as ever.

The thing is, when the situation calls for sitting down and chatting, Ji Suk Jin is absolutely hilarious. Find the Happy together episode he guested on for proof. I think if Kwang Soo hadn't already been given the absolutely useless character, then Suk Jin might fit in better. He's had some great moments in recent episodes. Definitely a hilarious guy, just gets left behind by the format a bit. I loved his moment in the new episode where he was so amazed that he did something cool when kicking the hackey sack backwards. It was like he couldn't believe that it actually happened.

Something I forgot to mention about the newest episode: did anyone else sigh and roll their eyes a bit when Jong Kook had to ask "is there maybe a spy"? It's kinda cute it's become his thing, but sometimes it just seems like he wants to be able to say "I knew all along" when it comes out in the end. I might be reading too much into things, but like I said before though, I'd like to see the spy gimmick being phased out completely and this is one of the reasons.

I can't believe Jae Suk and Daesung's "cheating" caused a mini outrage at the time. It was a genius call back that the other team obviously understood. Fantastic pair of episodes though. JiHyo's choice brought out some great moments, especially from Jae Suk and Suk Jin. In the find the guests mission, Yonghwa was magnificent once again, even with the odds stacked against the two guests. When it came to the later games, Yonghwa was hilarious, but Daesung was even more so. Looking forward to seeing him in the next episode along with the other BB members.

I forgot that this is the episode where Jong Kook pants Jae Suk. I know for sure that this definitely caused outrage. I'm not really too sure myself, he may have gone a bit too far, it definitely made him look like an actual bully. On the other hand, they've known each other for years and he obviously knows he can take a joke. I think it goes without saying that the spy segment is absolutely perfect.

I had some fun watching Episode 84. There were some great moments, like DaeSung ordering TOP around and Kwang Soo imitating/mocking Jong Kook at any chance he got. In terms of Big Bang themselves, does anyone even like their music? Their stuff is definitely well produced, but it's so derivative. Seems to be riffing on American RnB just a bit too much. The only thing I really take notice of is DaeSung's solo stuff, he has such a beautiful voice. It's a shame his solo on the new album is so dull. Also, I legit cried at Episode 41, especially when seeing Kwang Soo tear up.
