As I was scanning down, I saw a picture of a boat followed by a picture of a public area. I was starting to wonder what made either of those pictures funny until I realized that they were the same image.

I live in Newcastle, Australia, saw the ship in person when it ran aground, and it still took me a couple of seconds to realise it was one photo.

As an interesting aside, that Celine 'Goddamn' Dion song was playing in one of the restaurants on the cruise ship when it struck.

To counter the rotational force of forward momentum of the wheel, so long term travel/ quick bursts of torque from the drive train will not unscrew the lug.

Yup, only the left side is reverse threaded. The debated picture appears to be of the front right, which means the kid is tightening.

But the lug nut screws don't actually spin and they fully rotate with the tire, so I don't see why they would be reverse threaded. In bicycles, the bottom bracket is reverse threaded on one side because the axle goes through it and actually applies a little pressure on the "screws." This doesn't happen on a automobile. I've changes tires on many different vehicles and I've never encountered a reverse threaded lug nut. Unless big utility trucks and semis are different for some goofy reason.

I think the issue was that rapid acceleration would cause an incremental rotation of the nuts, which over time would loosen it enough to be a concern. Regardless, cars haven't had reverse threads since the 60s or 70s when they realized that a rounded lug nut provided enough friction to prevent loosening. (Thanks for not warning me when you asked me to change the tires on the Barracuda, Dad! ) Apparently big trucks, semis, and farm equipment do still have them.
