The game is great so far! I really recommend it for anyone who enjoy turn-based strategy games. The in-game guides help a lot, but there a certain things that you'll probably just have to pick up via getting your rear end kicked.

One of the most important things I learned is that you can destroy a knocked-out enemy by walking over his/her body.

I just started my first game and did my first turn. How long do I have to wait before my opponent moves? What is the time limit? Can I change it before the game starts?

It's asynchronous, meaning that the game will pause while it waits for your opponent to take his turn, so you can turn off the game and go about your life in between turns. I don't think there's a hard-coded turn limit, but if there it is, it's probably over a day.

Played about 7 complete games so far, have another 8 or so going. Pretty fun, although Im still not sure about the competitive balance between the humans and dark elves. I can never figure out what the gently caress to do with my dark elves, they cant "alpha strike" as well as the humans because they arent as mobile and dont have chain lightning and poo poo like that. The little phantoms they make out of dead things are dumb as gently caress, they just get 1-shotted by basically any ranged unit without breaking a sweat. I have had no luck with the wraith yet either, mainly do to getting him killed like a dummy or not drawing him til late.

The little phantoms can move a long range and dole out pretty decent damage. The one-shot kill doesn't make a difference to me because technically it's not one of your real characters anyway.

Both sides have their good and bad points. The ninja is better than the wraith straight out of the box, but if you can build the wraith up it can gently caress poo poo up (the problem is getting it to that point). The dark elf version of the bow chick seems much more powerful, and the dark elf knight can do chain damage, though a bit differently than the humans.

I would at least spend the .99 on the dark elves to get rid of the iAds.

The IAPs are mostly avatars, team colors, and taunts, most of which I don't really care about. The only IAP really worth buying is the Dark Elves team, and even then it's mostly for getting rid of ads.

Id just buy the dark elf IAP, which gets rid of ads and gives you both teams. I bought the fancy colors for a dollar but thats because I like spending money on games that are good. Id buy more poo poo if there was more cool IAP that affected the game more or reskinned characters.

baggie: the chain effect on melee is pretty inferior, and not being able to revive your own dudes constantly is a HUGE deal. Im not saying Im right, Im just saying Im a little uncertain of how to win with dark elves. Im basically playing all of my new games with them to try to figure it out.

Is there a way to surrender or something? There's a game or two where I'm just getting owned and I'd sooner just surrender and have it cleared off my list.

Human healers seem almost too powerful. I'm playing one guy who played 3 of them in his first two turns and killing anything is nearly impossible. I can't leave something with health left, and if I spend a bunch of ap killing something in one turn I often can't stomp it afterwards. If a healer brings back a knocked out unit, they are at almost full health, which seems crazy.

edit: also don't be offended if I refuse your game I have like 9 in the list right now and I can't keep track of them all.

I agree that healing is overpowered. Its especially obnoxious when you take a ton of actions to kill a heavily defense-buffed dude and cant quite get the stomp on him. I find the healing gets absurd when there are multiple healers as you said. The only way Ive dealt with it so far is a buffed wizard chaining lightning all over them and getting both in one turn, or using my ninja and scrolls to take out 2 in a turn. Either way is pretty difficult and once someone can turtle up with a couple healers in the back its really tough to crack that phallanx.

Remember though that each faction can kill KO-ed heroes in different, non-stomp ways. Humans can use the fireball spell, and dark elves can use their AOE spell or turn the KO into a phantom/eat it with a wraith.

It takes a bit more strategy to play Dark Elves. They're both similar enough but using their unique mechanics to your advantage is key. Dark Elves lack the brute force the council has. The main damage dealers in my opinion are the impalers. They can dish out serious hurt if they land on a power boost tile or you upgrade them with a sword. I agree void monks are kinda useless. I use them to attack gems if the enemy team is surrounding it.

The strategy I use depends on the cards I get during the first few turns. If my super is ready at the start I focus on keeping him fed. Baby him at first and keep him safe until he has eaten a few corpses. After he's set I'll let him loose and continue to pick off weaker enemies to buff him even more. I rarely focus on gems at this point, instead I annihilate the other team til the dude runs out of cards to play.

If I get a necromancer or two I focus on raising a phantom army. It's important to spread necromancers out evenly so they can get to a corpse in a few moves as possible. Which also keeps dead baddies dead. I use the impalers to do most of the dirty work. After a while I have more phantoms than I know what to do with. Which leaves the enemy wasting moves attempting to maneuver around them or kill them. They're nice to use as meat shields for your impalers and other ranged classes since the other player can't fire over them like you can. This works too as a way to defend your own crystals leaving you free to own the board.

I haven't found much use for the Priestess, besides the ability to ressurect. They seem fairly redundant with the life leech team ability. I usually use them as fodder to feed the Wraith or reserve them to neutralize enemy supers, buffed archers/wizards etc. Either way they're usually in the front line somewhere as bait.

Save your soulstones for impalers or buffed up wraiths, it'll make them practically unstoppable. Keep your soul harvest for an oh-poo poo moment as it will resurrect every fallen friendly. It will also permanently raise the hp of every unit in your army by 10 plus another 5 for any additional units it hits, crystals included. So it would be useful to use if the enemy has his units clustered up. Be smart about buff squares. You should never let the other player take advantage of one, use your impalers pull ability to your advantage.

fake edit: rambled a bit

I don't necessarily think the night elves are better. I agree with you that I'm not sure how to use them as effectively as I think I should and it seems like there's something I'm missing.

I've lost more using them than not, though I just looked at my play history and the only matches I win are those that are same team matches. I've never won as night elves against humans, but I've never beaten night elves as humans either (I'm also not that good, as you've probably figured out by now).

So the items and units the game gives you are completely random right? I can't do a custom loadout or anything? Also, I noticed some of the items (like scrolls) aren't listed on the team screen so i can't tell what they do.

Also,I probably just suck but it seems like everyone has powerful spells I havent even seen.

I'm guessing both of you hit "Rematch" at the same time. I have no idea why it prompts both sides, it should just prompt one person and if they don't say yes within a few hours, the other person sees the option.

Otherwise you end up starting two games, just like in Words with Friends.

I'm having huge success with the dark elves. The trick to them is their range body eat. With humans, in order to take a knocked out opponent out of the game you must stand on them, with night elves you can remove the body from range, avoiding vulnerability.

The little sprites they make are not good from their combat prowess. The range body eat enough is powerful, then the little guy is just the minus of an opponents action.

Maybe I'm just battling bad opponents, but its been working for me.I also win by killing all of my opponents units rather than destroying the crystal. I view hits on the crystal as wasted actions.
