I'm not too allergic to the beer here, but then I lived in London for two years prior to coming here where every barman was Jim Morrison and every barlady Kate Moss and the last thing on the roster of poo poo to do was clean the pipes/glasses properly... ie all the beer was manky, flat and rarely satisfying. (give me a Heineken infront of a roaring open fire in Ireland any day...). My hagwon is definitely ran on a shoestring, it would have been nice though for the holiday situation to have been explained more clearly (you can take the odd Monday off bro, enjoy). I thought the contract saying 'five days in Winter/Summer' was good to cover me (as did a few buddies living here who I showed the contract to). Asking if they could be taken as a block of five days didn't even cross my mind, no more than asking 'does night follow day'... Which was a mistake, looking back, any prospective hagwon employees should 100% super totally definitely ask about the hollers before signing a thing. e: my FB feed being full of public school people harping on about their imminent SE Odyssey isn't helping my mood one little bit either. Thinking about ordering some water kefir grains unless anyone knows a person who has some. This is a plea for anyone else who is doing this stuff too, please don't let me be the only one. Camp is over and done with thank god. I thought the New Zealand teacher was gonna hit a smack on one of the kids while they were practising for their performance. He got right in his face and screamed shut up at him and then dragged him out of the class by his jumper, the kid was lying on the ground at one stage.I lost the head when I got downstairs to the teachers room. I was told this kind of stuff happens in public schools. Am I being naive in thinking that it doesn't? I'll be so mad if this guy doesn't get at least a warning for this. The class was full of little brats, but last night they were my little brats doing the haka!

I've dragged a misbehaving little poo poo out of class before. I tell them to go in the hall, if they refuse (they usually refuse) I force the issue. I'm not violent about it or anything but once they ignore me telling them to get out, my choices are either to let the kid win or physically remove him.

Maybe I don't understand exactly what NZ guy was doing. I've grabbed a kid's arm and taken him out to stand in the hallway, put him back in his seat, or held it still so I could take the phone out of his hand after refusing to hand it over and me being tired of it holding up the class. I've also grabbed them and held them still to stop them from beating each other, since I was told it was my responsibility to make sure they don't hurt each other. And the fistfights in the middle of class are disruptive. Should I not be doing this? And it's always a boy. I hate boys. So much. I once dragged a student out of class. It was a class of about 40 students and I warned them the next person I caught throwing paper was getting kicked out. Then he threw a crumpled up ball of paper. I dragged him to the receptionist area and went back to class. Then he snuck back into my class. So I dragged him out again and locked the door. I didn't get disciplined at all, or even told not to do that. I was told to bring them to the head teacher next time.

On Monday, I arrived 30 minutes before my flight to Hong Kong. Check-in and security is so efficient that I had 10 minutes before boarding. Why can't the rest of Korea be as awesome as that airport? By the way, going from Busan to Hong Kong is like going from Newark to NYC. This place rocks. Is it possible to leapfrog from a Korean teaching gig to one in Hong Kong?

And the fistfights in the middle of class are disruptive. Should I not be doing this? I stop them fighting, sometimes I grab their hands to lift them off the floor and they resist. But, I would never scream at a child in such a way as he did. If I get annoyed I usually start clapping or rap a marker on the table or raise my voice, I would never scream at the children. Here's what happened exactly. I was sitting at the top of the class, another teacher that we had especially for camp was sitting behind me. The kids each had a little line to say to introduce their performance which was on New Zealand. They were chattering away, they were all excited and every so often someone wouldn't recognise a word. (a few times when the bad readers made a mistake this guy made them do 10 push ups as punishment? Brian was the kid that got in trouble. He shouted above the others and I asked them all to be quiet for practise. NZ teacher puts his face in front of his and screams SHUT UPPPPP! at the top of his lungs. Que horrible scared silence. I say the teachers name in a pissed off tone, about to loose the head but I just kept quiet because I don't want to argue in front of the kids. Brian laughs I think it was nervous and the teacher grabs the child by his jumper at the chest and drags him to the door (during this he trips and all but the teacher still drags him out and gives him a time out outside the door) Then after about 5 minutes he goes out and drags the kid in by the jumper and pushes him into the seat. After class he came over to me and said "I really have to stop doing that" I looked at him and said "yeah you really have to" and I stormed down to the principals office. I asked the other teacher, do you think that's right? Her reply was that in public schools they would have to deal with alot worse... If someone did that to one of my nephews or my niece there would be absolute ructions, no person not even a parent should treat a child like that. The coordinator said that "it is a very stressful time for all teachers I will speak to the kids and speak to NZ teacher seperately but I will have to have a meeting with you and NZ teacher after camp" In other news I just watched a documentary "Inside North Korea" I really really really want to go North now. Absolutely fantastic piece of work. The other teachers think I am bat poo poo crazy for wanting to go.

Hey~ New thread. Excellent. Anyone else hooked on PC bangs? I've been frequenting them since the new year and I can't stop myself from going... The air is horrible, the places are usually death traps in the event of a fire, there is smoke everywhere but it's just so drat addicting to be there with a few friends playing games and having food delivered to you as you sit there playing ridiculous shoot em up FPS and grindfest MMORPGs. And the people are so depressingly interesting! Just this last few weeks I've met a poo poo ton of unemployeed Korean losers who live there for 10 hours at a time playing Aion or some poo poo like that. One dude was a "pro" gamer who sells items online? And degenerate online gamblers. In the PC bang near me there is actually a group of gamblers who have formed teams to gamble online together and pool together their winnings. They're like a little nerdy mafia of poor hygene and an aura of mountain dewy glow. Plus last weekend while I was playing this Call of Duty rip off called Special Forces 2, a homelessman sat down next to me and heckled me for nearly an hour. "Why do you keep dying?" "Don't go in there again, you'll get shot." "I used to be in the special forces in the army and these guns aren't realistic at all." "Vietnam was hell..." You can't get entertainment and comradery like that anywhere else for 1200won an hour. my kakaotalk is: nhojoow I'll post again provided I haven't killed myself in a marathon gold mining quest.
