The Rotel seems to be the hardest thing to find....any equivalent would be welcome as well.

I found a can of S&W Petite Cut Tomatoes with Jalapeņos at Home Plus. They also had one with Green Chilies.

Green beans can be found at Costco in large frozen bags, or fresh at Home Plus for a lot. They also have similar ones at Chinese supermarkets.

I saw the Hormel Chili at the Foreign Food Mart in Itaewon. Probably is like 2000

Some 아줌마 was ringing at my door just now, yelling for 김윤기. I told her I wasn't that person, she insisted I was, I told her I wasn't again, she said of course I was, and I told her again that I wasn't, so she finally was like "네!" and ran off.

Now I hear her shouting for this guy (her son maybe?) in the apartment building next door.

I think curtains are insanely expensive here whether they be from Emart, custom shops, or even Costco.

Here's what I made for privacy/mute the sun:

Cost: 10,000 won
Expandable curtain rod found at a Korean traditional market for 6,000 + two Daiso 2,000 won table cloths. I cut holes, could have done a better job since they aren't even, but it gets the job done.

Uhh try curtain fabric stores like this one? 천싸요 (Cheap Fabrics)

A lot of people do complain how expensive it is to buy pre-made curtains or special ordered curtains, so people just buy fabric online and make it themselves. Often some people take classes on making home interior accessories that include curtain making class.

Here is also an article from Korean women's magazine and it shows the lists of nice sewing shops in Dong'daemoon Lady Khan Magazine

After looking at a few "Cheap DIY window treatment" websites I came up with this solution. It's good because it doesn't need hooks. The only drawback was that I thought those Daiso tablecloths were made out of cloth, but really they are some kind of petrochemical byproduct... they don't breathe. One of my alternative ideas was a shower curtain. There were some hideous 5,000 won cloth curtains at Daiso, but I stayed away.

I understand spending not enough money on stuffs 'coz my hunny and I have been doing it all the time as well

Yeah I guess communication is going to be pretty hard as the English taught in Korean school is broken to begin with (my first English sentence was "I am a girl"), and many start to sweat and go 'No English' at the sight of non-Korean speaking foreigners.

If you can pm me the name of some of the stuffs you want, I can translate it into Korean for you if it will help a lot.

Have you tried to get 우체국개인사서함 (Post office Postal Mail Box?) You need to visit the post office near you to get one.
First ring them and ask if they have a free one and you need to pay about 8000won for the key ('coz they make one for you).
You need to take your identification card, 도장 (engraved personal seal) and sign the form. If you do not use it for 30 days, it get cancelled and as far as I know it is free to use.

Did your hagwon arranged for you to move there (as in introduced you who to contact to get the apartment) or did you have to find out everything all by yourself?

I think you are not allowed to nail things on the wall if you are renting 'coz the landlord needs to put new wallpapers in if there is a hole on the wall (at least that's what my dad told me as he owns his own 다세대주택 (unit) and has couple of tenants in. Do you want me to ask him for more info?

I got introduced to SA in 2004 by an American guy I knew back then. Initially I was more like 'Okay~ I will check it out later~~' and did not get around to do it until like 2007. I liked what I read (mainly in Pet Island) and decided to stop lurking and register.

I used to just lurk and read until quite recently because I felt that I had nothing to contribute to SA. Japanese otaku reality check thread triggered me to post a reply actually, due to my family history during the Japanese occupation period.

I got surprised when I found Korea related threads in Tourism & Travel and language sub forums
Both threads made me very happy because I could assist people to understand my culture better (or at least I would like to very much).

And not really. Growing up, my father and mother were more grumpy than anybody in this thread.

Reread the airfare section of my contract.

"The Owner shall also purchase the cost for a return airplane ticket within 15 days after the completion of one year provided that the instructor leave the country to return home or to go on a vacation before starting work at a new Owner... The maximum amount of the airfare for a one way ticket shall not exceed one million Korean won."

Instead they want me to buy it and get it reimbursed. I think it is weird that they pre-condition that the ticket has to be for vacation before I start a new job. How do you control for that, and what matter is it to them?

Who knows anything about renting a moving truck? I have too much stuff for a cab. I just hope that I find a job with housing before I leave this apartment. I would hate to have to throw everything out and re buy a lot of stuff. How do people do it when they go on vacation between contracts? 그냥 먹고 사느라고요 (Just um... trying to survive as an average middle incomers)
My mother stayed home and raised my brother and I. My father went out and worked. He usually left about 7.30 in the morning and came home any time between eight or ten thirty. During the weekend, he slept most of the time because he was so tired, and my brother and I were strongly encouraged not to disturb him.

When he got paid once a month, he gave the entire envelope with pay in it to my mother and she would divide up the money - she gave him and us allowances (I think I got about 1000 won per week when I was in grade 1-3 and then 3000 won from grade 4-6), some money went in as living allowances, some into utilities and bills, and some into savings so we could buy and move to bigger apartment.

On top of that, just like any other Korean children, we went to hagwon. I started to play piano since the age 2 1/2, close to 3. I showed lots of promise so I regularly attended piano hagwon. My brother showed absolutely NO interest in music though.
And as we got older, you add math hagwon (for me), Korean language hagwon (for my brother), art hagwon (for me), English language hagwon (for both), etc etc =_=;; and compare to some of my friends, I got off lucky, at least I could come home by 6 so I could watch my favourite cartoons!!

That changed when I quit piano and concentrated more on art (from age 10). I usually came home from hagwon about 9 because I was setting up my portfolio.

:P No wonder my parents were grumpy ^^

Which area are you located? Seoul (Gang'nam? Gang'book??) or Gyong'gi?
You have couple of options. You either choose 포장이사 (they come and pack everything and deliver, and then unpack and clean for you in the new place) or 용달이사 (You pack everything yourself, then you just hire the car and then they deliver your stuff. You unpack and clean your stuff). 포장이사 is a lot more expensive. You really have to ring around and shop for prices though.

But sure, ask him. I don't have a drill or anything so I'd probably just superglue a curtain rod over the window, though I'd be scared it will be too heavy and rip the wallpaper.
