So I picked up a new TF300 + dock from Amazon on Friday, and I'm loving it so far.

Of course, this is an upgrade from my Nook Color running CM7, so I'm still shocked by how a proper tablet handles things the Nook struggled with.

My only problem so far is the Netflix app. The interface for it is so clunky and unresponsive, it's painful to use. Has anyone else noticed the same thing, or is it something specific to mine?

Also, I'd love to pick up another charging cable to carry with me. Does anyone know of a reasonably priced place to get just the cable, without the wall adapter?

So I'm guessing the Transformer is the best bet. Is it rootable? Which one should I get?

As of a few days ago, it appears all the Transformer models are rootable. You may have to downgrade the firmware, then root and use a Rootkeeper app to restore it after you update again, but it seems to work without issues right now.

EDIT: Just note that although it is rootable, the TF300 does not currently have an unlocked bootloader, so no custom ROMs or anything. Not that it needs them.

So over the last few days, I'd been experiencing a lot of random reboots on my TF300 when browsing the web, with no real indication of any other problems. I'd just be browsing along, the browser would freeze, and then bam, Asus logo.

Well, after a few days of troubleshooting, I finally tried disabling the Asus PC Sync under sync options in settings, and I haven't had a single crash since then. So if anyone else is experiencing the same kind of issues, give it a try.

No idea if the same thing would apply to the TF101 or Prime, though.

I'm happy with Dropbox, it's Evernote that pisses me off. "Offline folders" only syncs the contents of a note, it won't sync the attachments. I called support about it and they turned it into a feature request. I don't see how I could be the first one to bitch about this.

Regarding the Google Docs idea, maybe the sync is more robust, but I'm mostly looking to drop an RTF (Rich Text Format(WordPad)) into a folder that syncs with dropbox. I keep a separate folder for each of my current projects and I'd be just as well served by an RTF file as with Evernote.

Sigh, somehow I always find a way to be an edge case with technology.

Maybe I'm missing something, but does Dropbox itself not already handle your use case? Just drop the RTF files in your Dropbox sync folder on your office machine, and then sync them to your android.

If it's just that you're looking for a way to sync files outside of the normal Dropbox sync folder on your PC, google for some tutorials about using symlinks to sync other folders to Dropbox.

Yeah, this seemed lovely, since I think I'd prefer to use it in landscape the majority of the time, but I'm sure it'll be made possible by a 3rd party launcher.

It seems doubly odd for a device from Asus, since it doesn't make much sense for a device like the Transformer series not to support a landscape resolution.

I think it's more likely a choice specifically for the Nexus tablet, and not necessarily a JB "feature"

The latest version of music manager even has a helpful import of everything from iTunes automatically, and can monitor your iTunes library to automatically upload anything you add to it.

Currently, I'm using a TF300 with keyboard for roughly the same purpose, as a mini-laptop for school so I don't have to lug my 17" MBP around when I ride my bike to classes.

For note-taking, e-mail, looking at powerpoint slides, etc. it works great, but I draw the line at writing anything serious like a paper or doing homework on it. From what I've found, even the best office suites available on Android right now still fall pretty short of the mark compared to what you're used to in a standard Microsoft Office type environment.

If you're going to do it, I would recommend using the tablet for day to day light use and entertainment, but keep the laptop for your real heavy lifting.

I've had my TF700T for a few days now and I've noticed the video performance seems a bit choppy at times. My home page is mostly full of apps and it can sometimes lag for a second or two changing pages before jerkily switching over. Things don't scroll smoothly at times, when there's nothing running in the background or any downloads going.

I installed the latest firmware and it hasn't made a noticable difference. I'm hoping it gets sorted soon, seems like I/O issues are cropping up for the Infinity.

All the Tegra3 Transformer devices currently have I/O issues under the current ICS kernel and drivers that they're using, there's some pretty detailed analysis over on the xda Prime forums.

That said, it doesn't appear that the Nexus 7 is having these issues, despite running on basically the same hardware, so it's highly likely things will be fixed once Asus finally pushes out the JB updates.

So Asus is rolling out OTA Jelly Bean updates for the Transformer Pad (TF300). Which is totally awesome... except only yesterday I unlocked my tablet to install CM10. Unlocking the bootloader renders you unable to install the OTA updates.

Oh well, CM10 is pretty awesome. Besides the two times it locked up and rebooted yesterday. :eng99:

Good news is that the JB update is indeed coming with an updated 3.1.1 kernel image that will hopefully let CM10 and the other homebrewed ROMs take advantage of the stability and driver improvements as well.

So, an updated T-Mobile end of year roadmap leaked, and it doesn't seem to have any new Nexus devices on it whatsoever.

That could mean nothing, I'm not familiar with T-Mobile's roadmap procedures and whether they would list unannounced devices or not, but it doesn't look like they have a lot of exciting stuff coming up.

I'm pretty sure that's still the exact same form email they were using for all the Nexus 4 shipping fiascos. I think the general consensus was that these "shipping specialists" don't actually exist, and they just want you to shut up and go away because the customer support people literally can't see any more info about your order than you can.

My GS3 has connected to NFC on a 1st Gen N7, various NFC tags, and my wife's N4. It's not my phone.

Make sure that you're using NFC tags compatible with the new Nexus devices.

The Nexus 4, 10, and 2013 Nexus 7 use a different NFC chip than all other Android devices, which has led to compatibility issues with some tags that aren't standards-compliant, whereas the older chips (such as in the GS3) had no problems with them.

If you've got a Nexus 4 or 10 that you can test with and they read the tag fine, then you're definitely broken.

Edit: Here's a nice XDA post on the issue. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2040900

I'm interested in upgrading from my 32gb 10 inch hp touchpad converted to android. I basically just read on it, books and comics. I'd like something a little lighter. I only spent $150 on this one and it looks like there's still nothing that compares to this price for the same features, even now. Would you recommend anything under $300 that has the same capacity and screen size?

Unless you're absolutely set on a10" size, the new Nexus 7 seems exactly like what you're looking for. Last year's model would probably work fine as well if you're okay with a lower res screen and want to save a bit more.

All of these features are not available if your account is a Google Apps account. Which is so loving stupid to me and makes no sense whatsoever. Especially if you're a paying Google Apps account user.

I would imagine this would boil down to differing privacy and security agreements for apps customers vs regular Google users. Companies that use the apps services probably frown at the idea of Google crunching through all the data they store on Google's servers constantly.

I read comics on my 2013 Nexus, and it seems just fine. For reading text on smaller screens the PPI seems to make a bigger difference than the actual screen size. Higher PPI means it is perfectly readable on a smaller screen, whereas lower means you need larger text display to be readable.

So, for anyone that's considering a Portenzo BookCase for their 2013 Nexus: At least with my Qi chargers, I cannot manage to get it to work when the tablet is in the case. It's not a huge problem, as the charging port is still easily accessible, but if you're the type who must go with wireless charging, it's good to know beforehand.

I'm using the Energizer Qi charging pads that were popular around the Nexus 4 launch, for reference.

That doesn't really answer the question though, if 6-10' cords are so cheap then why don't OEMs use them to begin with? Surely an extra foot or so of wire won't cause the manufacturer to spiral into financial ruin unless its HTC and this cord is definitely shorter than the one on my 2012 nexus.

Anyway, I'm getting the pad because I plan to get a nexus 5 as soon as they launch, and it's less clutter to have a pad with one plug rather than two separate charge cables.

Shorter cords end up delivering more current to the device, because longer cords have more voltage loss over the length of the cord. As devices get more power hungry, the cords get shorter. Not necessarily for when using the wall charger, but for when trying to charge via USB. Your OEM cord will probably at least trickle charge the tablet via USB while it's on, but a longer one would probably require the tablet to be powered off to charge via USB, which is a pretty big issue when dealing with dumb consumers ("OMG WHY WONT MY TABLET CHARGE!??! GOOGLE U SUCK!")

So my N7 2013 has been having it's battery murdered by Android OS lately. Like, barely a day of life out of the battery with MINUTES of screen-on time, but Android OS has a keep-awake run of like 3 hours. A reboot cured it but only for a day. Can't think of anything new I've installed. Any ideas on what I should check?

My Nexus 4 has been suffering the same problems, lately, with Better Battery Stats reporting nothing that seems unusual, but the Settings' battery readout showing Google Play Services taking out a massive chunk of battery, but nothing I've done so far has fixed the problem.
