I just can't express to you how much harder having Brownlee in charge of this whole process has made things for Christchurch. If you're some kind of apologist for the government then fine, I'm glad they're doing right by you in Auckland or some rural setting but they are kicking the people of Christchurch when they are already down, again and again. Why are there people sleeping in the sand dunes near the beach, or what about the guy who sleeps behind the old Hoyts 8/Science Alive building under a bush? Some of these people have nearly 200 ahead of them trying to get some temporary accommodation. Seriously, if you've been here in winter you'll know why this is loving outrageous. My community put together a recovery plan, mainly just trying to work out with EQC and many engineers which areas of the neighborhood would be salvageable and what needed to be scraped, not zoning just minor stuff like roadside gardens and parks. Brownlee vetoed all our work, for what I can only assume are purely political reasons (there was no love lost between us on other more immediate issues too). This isn't the case in National voting neighborhoods; Brownlee is throwing his disgusting weight around and pretty much making areas that don't vote for him suffer. And don't even get me started on the underhand deals with insurance companies that allows them to delay payments for 5 years and beyond. Sorry about the big rant, but this just isn't getting any coverage on the news, as I said almost a year ago the rest of New Zealand would sort of like to forget Christchurch because it hits so close to home, particularly if you live in Wellington, but the reality is we're getting screwed down here and most people would just as soon get on with their lives than take an interest in something that could affect them very directly in a country built on fault lines and volcanoes.

The example is that the govt. is fine with people waiting up to 5 years (!!!) to get insurance payouts. I mean, why does any kiwi buy insurance? Earthquakes have got to be one of the very top reasons. There are businesses that I know of that have full income replacement insurance that are yet to see a cent, and got forbid you were part of a church based insurance scheme like one family I know, they'll be lucky to ever get a cent at this rate due to all the damage to churches. There are still people with no payout from the September 2010 quake, there are still people from that quake who don't know the fate of their house! I would expect the govt. to step in and say enough is enough and if people had up to date policies when the quake hit they need to get paid now. But then that would upset some of National's buddies, so they let it slide and businesses go under every day and people sleep on the sand dunes. Next time you look at your insurance premiums, think about this just for a second.

I remember during the last election campaign and Goff was talking about the government stepping in directly to either force the companies to honour their policies and even setting up an insurer who would take on new cover in the Canterbury region because the market was obviously failing and needed to be corrected. Key waved it off with claims of socialism destroying the private market and that no private insurance company would continue to operate in NZ if we did that. I guess in the same way Kiwibank has forced all of the other banks to close up shop in NZ.

I thought civil unions were the same thing, and just assumed it was legal. Is it not? I knew adoption was maybe a different story, but adoption seems pretty hard no matter who you are (not that that makes it ok).

Pararoid posted:Whatever. I honestly hope a 5 year payout delay never happens to you because I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. Me neither, but there is no point blaming the insurance company for the delay. Its not like they are on purpose delaying payouts, and despite your claims you have no proof that they are. Pararoid posted:Your question about why an insurance company would delay a payout would be covered in high school economics, I don't really have the time to break it all down if it's not obvious sorry. No it wouldn't. You fail to understand how insurance works. They aren't paying out because they don't have the money with which to pay out, and they have to wait until they have the money (or their re-insurer has the money to give them) until they can give you the money. EDIT: I also fail to understand how insurance works. The money being available isn't rally an issue. Settling claims is a hard job, and especially in a disaster there are lots of things you need to wait for such as rezoning and damage assessment and working out how much needs to be paid and where the building will actually take place if the land can't be built on all, and about 7000 other things that need to happen. Then, the building has to be done, which takes time. All of these activities can't happen all at once, there are only so many people to do them. There is no conspiracy here, and 5 years to get it all done isn't that bad a time frame. klen dool fucked around with this message at Jul 28, 2012 around 03:47 |

High school economics definitely covers disasters of a breadth and scope of the Christchurch earthquakes and how to deal with them in a timely, efficient manner. We should have recent high school graduates who scored well in economics exams and their teachers to oversee the entire thing. They've covered it all, and the entire situation is not complicated at all.

Have you read Ian Wisharts book Eve's Bite? There is a clear correlation between Homosexuality and Peadophilia. I am not saying that all gays are Peadophiles far from it but there is a clear link. Just is there is a link with abused boys becoming gay. There is also a Radical Gay agenda out there to eventually lower the age of consent and legalise sex with underage children. Not openly spoken about but in existence non the less. --- BTW, the above isn't my words but a friend of a friend on FB. It just makes me sad, is all.
