I'm sure this has been discussed before but why does Go To Sleep not get played any more?

Nuclear Spoon posted:I'm sure this has been discussed before but why does Go To Sleep not get played any more? Hasn't been discussed. It hasn't been played since the HTTT tour I think. We can only speculate, but it was never one of the beloved RH tracks, considered less essential I suppose, and/or the band haven't been "feeling" it lately. I did see it reported that it was soundchecked which indicates they're considering it and it might show up though. Great, underrated track though.

It was a single though, which makes it surprising to not get an airing ever ever any more. I wish they'd play Down is the New Up, personally. Seems like they really fell out of love with that song

Yeah, but High and Dry was a single too. Now is the time to play Down is the New Up. They have two drummers ffs! Of course, I want The Butcher more.

I am really not feeling the "Daily Mail is like You and Whose Army" thing, beyond the basic structure of "slow piano ballad in first half with a belated drum intro to full band climax in second half" YAWA is really haunting and creepily morose all the way through. Daily Mail sounds like a Beatles song. If there is one track I really REALLY want to see make a comeback on this tour it would be Backdrifts.

It follows the exact same structure and similar instrumentation. It made me think of YAWA as soon as I heard it. In my book YAWA remains superior for its masterful lyrical/musical cohesion, but the Daily Mail rocks really hard, full of HTTT-style swagger, and it's the better live track. It feels sort of like a treat after the rhythmic wallpaper of TKOL, like, "OK, now you can rock out."

Thom Yorke posted:"We did this festival called Bonnaroo. We did 2,5 hours. And there’s 80,0000 people, admittedly they’ve been smoking the sticky green all day, probably wouldn’t go anywhere anyway. It was just amazing. We played loads of new stuff. We did whole sections of quiet piano songs and it sounds like the most grotesque self-indulgent nonsense but it probably is my favourite gig for years and years and years." He's not lying, anyone in this thread who was there has to consider it the best concert they've ever seen. Just thinking about it makes me want to do this in my office. ![]() In fact, let's recount the setlist one more time since the 2012 show is creeping up (just a little over a month to go!) Radiohead at Bonnaroo 2006 posted:1. There There Feel free to join in and reminisce about the best parts of the show. Mahlertov Cocktail posted:Holy Christ that's an amazing setlist. I'm totally watching that when I get home today. There's a lot of really good video of the concert on YouTube. There was a guy -- and I don't remember the username off-hand -- who had to be set up stationary at or near the soundboard, because there's multiple videos that are basically from a centered and even camera angle that you wouldn't get as a random person in the crowd. I would highly recommend everyone who doesn't know about this show to check it out. The video of Videotape has made its way around the internet over the past six years, mostly as the shining example of the version of the song that many of us (myself included) wished was on In Rainbows. But there's quality versions of There There and 2+2=5 at the opening, plus the video of Karma Police (including Thom's false-start mess-up) which currently stands as the YouTube video I've watched the most out of anything on the internet, ever. Random non-Bonnaroo thought... I saw RH for the second time at Lollapalooza 2008, and while it was enjoyable, it was no Bonnaroo. However, there was a little stretch of the concert that was absolutely incredible, and I'd like to see how many fellow goons were there and remember it. at some point later in the set (not the closer, though), the band played Fake Plastic Trees, then went into Everything In It's Right Place. I don't remember the exact point that it started, but at some point during FPT, fireworks began shooting off behind the stage, adding a nice visual that continued well into EIIRP. These fireworks were not, however, part of the show. Instead, there had been some sort of scrimmage/fan get-together for the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field, which is off in the distance behind where the stage was. It was just a perfect combination of two completely separate events, and the most memorable part of that show to me. My memory wants to tell the story as the fireworks starting right before 'she looks like the real thing' and the payoff of the Fake Plastic Trees build-up, but I can't say for certain that's how it happened.

Jeff Wiiver posted:Re: Bonnarro 2006 I still remember reading that when I got home from Bonnaroo and wondering how anyone could come away from that show feeling that way. Then I figured that Drea De Matteo is probably not a big Radiohead fan and expected some loud-rear end rock concert and instead got to listen to a bunch of 'quiet piano songs' as Thom said. I mean, Radiohead fans like us look at that setlist and just drool, but unfortunately I can kind of see what caused her to say that. Jim James, on the other hand, should know better. He's a loving musician. e: to expand on my point just a bit, re: Drea, I'm sure she was completely turned off at how quiet a song like Exit Music was, whereas to someone like me, I found it incredible to see that entire crowd brought to near-dead silence as Thom stood there and played his acoustic guitar. Probably even more incredible than watching an elderly Tom Petty have 80,000 people eating out of the palm of his loving hand the night before. I'm sure she was sitting in the VIP section on the side of the stage bored out of her mind, which of course is the wrong reaction.
