Can someone tell me why Davy back Fight is terrible? Is it due to the anime? (Where does it start? I forgotten about it.)

Supeerme posted:Can someone tell me why Davy back Fight is terrible? Is it due to the anime? (Where does it start? I forgotten about it.) It actually owns. ![]() The problem with the Davy Back Fight in the anime is that it came right after the G-8 arc, which was entirely filler. Then the Davy Back Fight itself was stretched into even MORE filler, when in the manga it was supposed to be a quick, fun side-adventure before returning to more serious things (Water 7 arc). It doesn't help that Foxy returned later in the anime, signaling even more filler, so a lot of people who primarily watched the anime associate him with that. The anime also removed the first meeting with Aokiji, which was a great ending to the Davy Back Fight. Millions fucked around with this message at Mar 20, 2012 around 12:52 |

I actually think that's one of the times that the anime improved over the manga. I mean, freezing the ocean to help a shipwrecked group of people on an uninhabited island reach civilization again makes a lot more sense than freezing the ocean because an old guy wanted to catch up with his family or something.

Eh, on the other hand freezing the sea between two nearby islands makes a smidge more sense than freezing a huge chunk of ocean that'd take days to traverse to the next island. I mean, how many ships would inadvertedly end up frozen in place and what the gently caress would the paople on aforementioned island think when the sea suddenly freezes? It seems hella irresponsible, and Aokiji is one of the marines that seems to care about avoiding collateral damage.

Yeah I don't understand the hate for the DBF. It canonically gave us the Groggy Ring fight, one of Zoro and Sanji's most badass moments (they beat a giant motherfuckers), Zoro telling Chopper to man the gently caress up, and it working, and possibly the best 1v1 fruit on the planet in the hands of an incompetent split head who just wants to play games with other crews. The anime poo poo on it, but I think they poo poo harder on the Paramount War arc or Enies Lobby, and those arcs aren't universally hated.

Davy Back Fight in the manga is a great mini-arc before the far more serious Water 7/Enies Lobby. It's a good "breather" arc, never overstays its welcome and is endlessly entertaining. Davy Back Fight in the anime is painful tedium.

Some Numbers posted:No, I just don't think they're nearly as entertaining as Oda does. I think part of that may have to do with translation and cultural perspective issues. Some of it is because those translating it apparently didn't "get" it. Which is why we initially had the mistranslation where people thought it was Oda talking about "black people being super strong and their afros give them power" which is just stupid. Oda says "Does the Champ wear the Afro, or does the Afro make the Champ? The mythical power within Afros is a mystery to science even today." Oda is referring to a very specific few Japanese boxers here. ![]() The line is without a doubt a reference and tribute to Yoko Gushiken (left), a Ryukyuan champion boxer who had great fame in Japan, and who wore an afro. He's still popular in Japan, and quite a number of boxers emulate his style as a tribute (right). He is a major cultural icon, and the imagery associated with him being "a champ" is the core of the reference.

Mihawk cannot beat buggy as a swordsman, even with Haki. ![]() I will explain, the Chop Chop Fruit does nothing to stop buggy from being cut, he is merely not hurt by it, you can use haki to boost the force of your attack as much as you want, but it won't actually hurt him. Luffy is rubber, and rubber has a breaking point so you can pump an attack up enough to hurt him through his stretchy gum gum powers. Haki can make a logia able to be hit, but you can already hit buggy so that doesn't matter, also he is a paramecia type which as demostrated with luffy can still use their powers even when affected by the ocean, see the fight vs arlong where luffy was stuck underwater in concrete and they pull his head above water to get him some air, so you could cut buggys head off while he was in sea stone cuffs and it shouldn't actually do anything to him because of his paramecia fruit. Cutting is literally useless against him.

or it could just be that Mihawk was barely even trying since he kinda liked Luffy and warlords in general really hate their job.
