When I 1st got into reading the manga I sped through it really enjoying it then somehow once I got to the Skypeia arc I put it down. Only just recently within the last year did I go back and start reading again.

I can't really explain it but by the time you get to Skypeia it's like the setting is different but the plot was really just kinda meh and not that different from other arcs. After that it got really really good again, but I can see why people wouldn't like the arc. I can't really give a good reason as to why I didn't like it but I certainly got bored during the 1st read-through.

After reading what you guys wrote I think the biggest turn-off for me was that way early in the arc they are foreshadowing the Luffy-Enel fight and then every bullshit thing that Luffy had to go through to get to that fight just seemed to be an annoying slow-down to the plot.

One Piece is kind of awesome. How many years have I been saying that in threads for now? Seems like a long time. I this chapter I liked the part where everything happened. There wasn't a single page I was not entertained.

It has a special talent to it. Most manga manage to tell less in 2-3 chapters than Oda routinely does in 1. Every time you go back and look at it there are little things to find all over the place. It's amazing how consistently good and packed with material it is every week for so long.

Zoro is not normal. She's also gained the ability to use giant limbs, like luffy now too, as well as make clones of herself. Still, who knows -- Oda could either make up some kind of absolutely crazy abilities for her and Brook, or could almost entirely ignore their fruits like he has in the past.

I'm also kind of curious as to why Robin seems to be the only Devil Fruit user who's ability doesn't clone her clothes.

e: Except in the case where she literally clones herself, which I guess happens only because otherwise she would have a naked clone.

It's to keep Sanji alive.

I just realised something.

The name of Law's pirate crew is the "Heart Pirates".

Look at what he did to become a Shichibukai.

I am probably just being dense but I don't get what you mean here. Also, I only read the chapter real quick before leaving to work so maybe I missed something?

With how slow / erratic the webserver was being on the release today it's understandable. I missed it as well but admittedly I read through it very quickly before leaving for work.

So, I got into One Piece because I was sort of swept up in the spectacle of the Whitebeard War, and contented myself with getting some rough background off the wiki and moving forward. But I've decided to start the whole thing from scratch so I can really get the full experience.

To that end, I marathoned my way through the first 220 chapters in one weekend. I have to say it was an intense experience. I never really got into One Piece back in the day because it came across as goofy and ridiculous with the weirdo animals and superpowers and the odd artstyle and the apparently autistic hero. Knowing what a dumb idea that was to hold of the series made it almost shocking just how hard-hitting some of those early sagas could be. Its like when I finally got over myself and actually played Wind Waker (which ironically also features really cartoony pirates in an ocean planet...).

The Arlong Park Arc/Nami story was particularly hard-hitting, though all of the character's backstories have been joys to read (despite their universally depressing nature) as was the detour adventure to Little Garden, though the Climax of that story dragged a bit. The grand scale of the Alabasta story was also very fun to read, seeing all the little elements from previous chapters and mini-arcs and foreshadowing come together in a big way. It was also nice to have a credible and threatening villain in Crocodile, since up until that point (with the exceptions of Arlong and Mihawk, who wasn't even a villain as much as a plot device) Luffy and his crew had been mudstomping everyone. Vivi not joining the crew at the end was also a heartbreaker, as I'd come to really like her and the fact that she was the only member of the crew who could be a strait man for EVERYONE'S silly antics.

So now, here I am, about to delve into Skypeia. I'm feeling some trepidation to be honest, as I've heard this arc isn't all that great, has serious pacing issues, and has a lot less to do with the overall plot than any other major story arc thus far.

Still, if nothing else I can appreciate the comical ease with which Robin has ingratiated herself with literally everyone.

Skypeia has a really good ending at least and quickly leads into 2 of the best arcs of the series (with a side arc that will not be named).

I just noticed that those prisoners in brownbeard flashback were riding on helium balloons. I think CC weapon of destruction may actually have something to do with him create a flying device, that spread Toxic gas in the air to wipe-out entire island full of people.

So CC is the green goblin?

OP has a bit more fantasy vibe and seems (just seems) to be targeted to slightly a younger age group than the others, or at least it did so in the earlier story arcs.

I admit I watched it for the 1st time / started reading the manga about 5-6 years ago and enjoyed it but kinda got bored with it after a while. For whatever reason after picking it up again a few years later I was much more blown away with just how good Oda is in the storytelling and use of characters. It's one of those things that just has a certain vibe that you have to get used to, and just take it that it's going to be sometimes ridiculous fantasy and that's one of its strengths in the end that might seem like a turn off to some people at 1st.

Because it's pretty hard to imagine in what way she'd be useful in such a scenario? She couldn't even take one of his shigans, so what use would she be when Sanji can land an attack even when Vergo had some idea he was coming?

Because in manga someone hit with a near fatal blow never comes back and does something bad rear end.

Yea, I was just suggesting it as a joke honestly - but it's still a good possibility. I don't think we've seen any Warlord with an actual crew so it appears to be a thing they give up or distance themselves from as part of the title. There's a good chance Law left someone else at the wheel while he went to set up his alliance and plan to take down an Emperor on Punk Hazard. Do we have any other named crew members for Law's crew?

Didn't Hancock have a crew?

I don't think you can sustain 3h of sleep realistically for more than a few weeks before you start to physically have problems.
