Kevin Newsome was so loving bad but drat, he would have been nice this year because at worst, he would have been as terrible as McGloin or Bolden but could at least have a few cool runs

I hate watching kids languish on the bench because they're just determined to play offense and think they know better than everyone rather than suiting up and becoming a star on defense, even if they don't play for VT. Newsome could be worrying about next year's Combine than deciding what he's going to do for a career the next 40 years if he was just willing to play safety.

Kam Chancellor was basically a less talented Newsome in high school. Nobody else offered, VT grabbed him really late, gave him a shot at QB and then said "try defense". Now he's a Pro-Bowler. There was nothing he had that Newsome didn't except the ability to listen to people who probably know better about where he belonged on the field.

Or it could be that kids just don't want to be safeties and should be left alone to make that choice. Whether or not they turn out to be NFL-caliber players at all (still a very rare thing even at the BCS level) should be secondary.

Newsome really needed to stay committed to Michigan if he really wanted to be a QB.

This is truth - he needed to have a system built around him. Honestly, RichRod's style would've fit him perfectly.

Plus, he can moonwalk and play the piano.

There's not a chance any of those other QBs can even do something nearly as cool (except Shane McGregor, who is writing a book)

VT would have been fine, he really just needed to not trust his career to Jay Paterno.

As someone who has seen almost every high school game that kid has played, you're getting a better player than the star rating indicates. Awesome get for Penn State.

As much as I'd love to see him in scarlet and grey, he's gotta be headed to PSU. They just got a good QB recruit, and he's been a lifelong fan; it should be a good fit for him.

Outside of maybe Reggie Ball, I've never seen a QB more lost on a football field than Anthony Morelli. You'd watch Penn State play and you'd ask, do they really have no one better than this?

I can recall being broke with some friends in Tennessee and deciding to have a party and being able to afford only two-fifths of a $1.75 bourbon called Two Natural, whose label showed dice coming up 5 and 2. Its taste was memorable. The psychological effect was also notable.

We were the recipients of Joe Dailey during the Bunting years after he transferred out of Nebraska and oh my gosh that guy had no idea what was going on

Apparently PSU is also in the running for former Terp Danny O'Brien, along with UConn and Wisky as the other serious contenders.

You wouldn't gently caress around if your options were Matt McGloin, literal worst FBS QB Rob Bolden, and some retard shithead that will never have the grades to see the field

I'd take my chances with Bolden under the premise that Jay Paterno sucks and maybe a non-lovely coach could do something with him.

Bauserman this year has to give Morelli at least a run for that with how he played this year. The dude threw more passes to the pylons than to people.

Penn State would have won the Big Ten this year with Anthony Morelli. Even Morelli's worst day was miles above Bolden's bowl game.

Not as bad as some of what UCLA has run out there in recent years (Osaar Rashaan anyone?).

But yeah, Tedford leaving Maynard out there as often as he does doesn't inspire confidence in the reserves.

Bridgford was close to the job - he looked okay against USC but his release is so goddamn slow.

All our hopes and dreams lie in the future with Zack Kline though

Yeah, I know. I feel bad for Mills, because the talent around him was atrocious.

As far as Devlin goes, he lost out to Clark, who did pretty well against schools not named Iowa or Ohio State.

He was 1-1 against Ohio State. We won in 2008. It's just that Iowa has the power of devil magic.

He also didn't play the key part of that game where we scored points. Devlin actually scored the points (granted, on a pass interference followed by a 1 yard QB sneak).

In his defense I think he was still concussed that time he threw it right at Tyler Sash. And the next year Iowa's defensive line was just unfair and he wound up spending most of the night running for his life.

Nobody should have been involved in that second game. I was freezing then (it was pouring in the hours preceding that game)
