Grampybone posted:If you just want to do weighted marches you can get an ALICE frame with a plate holder and skip bothering with finding stuff to pack your ruck with. Also if you are doing it to train for something, you might want to find the pack the something uses because I don't think there's a single military course that uses or even allows ALICE packs anymore. Grampybone posted:I think iceslice was saying they use the MOLLE rucks there, so if you want to train for that, you should just grab one of those and throw a couple sand bags in there. I don't know anything first hand about SFAS though. Oh really? I had read practically everywhere that they were using Large alice rucks. Maybe the information was dated.

It's nice as a general backpack, but no chest strap and no hip belt really limits it. I know, I know

Veins McGee posted:ahahahah what a ripoff. You paid $400 for a $50 PX daypack. Where are you getting 400$ from? The GR1 is 300$ normally but they take 30% off if you buy it when you register for a challenge. Still wasn't worth 200$, though. I will say that, internally, its really well designed and protects your back from getting roughed up. The straps are okay. Everything else is fine.

But that's what you get for something thats MADE IN AMERICA by REAL AMERICAN VETERANS who proudly make AMERICAN products. Its not Skilcraft but these people may be blind. I did like the rigid walls and back support. It kept everything from shifting around inside when we had to run (We did indian runs the entire way after we dropped off our log).

Ruck interval report (56lb ruck, no water) 1st mile: 9:24 Rest 8 minutes 2nd mile: 9:09 Rest 8 minutes 3rd mile: 9:05 Walk home That was pretty quick and felt good.

To be fair, it was on a track and I had no water, so my pack was probably at least 5lbs lighter than yours. Also, don't forget that you can actually pass the run

Veins McGee posted:Why are you still training for SFAS if you're going to Columbia? I'm deferring Columbia until next year to at least get one shot at selection with the guard. CU has an option that allows you to defer admission for up to 5 years should you decide to pursue military service. That way, should I mess up somewhere along the way, I've always got a great school to fall back on.

Veins McGee posted:Most schools allow you to defer. I just don't see what the point is. SF is something I've been wanting to do for a while. Since it's with a guard company, if I make it through training and get tabbed I can do that thing and still attend a top-notch school. Other than dying or being horribly injured, there really are no downsides. I know it's moto or whatever Time Crisis Actor fucked around with this message at 08:40 on Aug 3, 2013 |

psydude posted:Have you spoken with the detachment you're trying out with yet? Because guard SF units tend to deploy/go TDY with about the same frequency as their active duty counterparts, which could be pretty disruptive when it comes to your schooling. This particular company hasn't deployed as a company since 2007 or so. You're right, it is something that I'll have to discuss with them. In all likelihood it'd probably be best if I did a deployment with them before asking for some time for schooling, but we'll see. Gotta get through the training, first.
