At this stage I wouldn't be too surprised if we went to Brazil 2014 still playing Lampard/Gerrard/Ferdinand/Terry

So, about the possibility of Capello being against removing Terry as captain...

Ha. What a loving mess. I don't want either Rio or Lampard to go but if Gerrard is playing well he might be worth a shot. It's all irrelevant - our tournament has been undermined already by Capello's outburst and the new captain is hosed from the start. I'd give it to Parker - he clearly gives a poo poo about playing for England and has been in great form for two years. Not sure if he does a good soundbyte though.

Dont give it to anyone, have the team do rock paper scissors to see who leads them out and carries the little flag.

Fabio Capello may have breached his contract with the FA http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/16905818 Between the useless FA, the outspoken Italian manager, and the stupid press who will spin anything whichever way they possibly can, it's pretty comical to watch unfold.

You would have thought with this, the fact he's England manager and there has been a reasonable amount of noise that Terry is fairly disliked in the England camp that he could not say anything and maybe not call Terry up. Having a group of people who are all happy to be around each the entire time is far more important than having maybe a marginally better defender there

They might as well just hold a public vote of no-confidence (even if Capello is wrong on this).

Its understandable at him being annoyed and even saying something, but if there really is a large group of England players unhappy with Terry he probably should have done something about it. The date of the trial really shouldn't have been pushed back until after the Euro's though. It left everyone in a bad situation Edit: Capello never said anything about still considering Terry being captain. Unsurprisingly it was a poo poo translation Scott Bakula fucked around with this message at Feb 6, 2012 around 13:12 |

I reckon next captain should be, in order of preference: 1) Joe Hart. Least damaged goods in the squad, genuinely world class in his position, arguably to a greater extent than any other player. In it for the long haul. Seems a good communicator and leader. 2) Scott Parker. Everything you want in a captain, wouldn't give the press anything beyond the basics, knocking on a bit and probably won't make it to another tournament. 3) Gareth Barry; see Scott Parker. 4) Rio Ferdinand. gently caress John Terry.

Psybro posted:I reckon next captain should be, in order of preference: It should be Hart for sure. He's young and he's the first name on the team sheet for the next decade. You want your captain to be someone who's nailed on to start every game, and unfortunately neither Barry nor Parker is there because of the 'golden generation' filling up central midfield. If you're concerned that a keeper won't be able to captain properly when play is in the other half (I've seen this as a reason it shouldn't be Hart) then make your vice-captain someone who will be up there like Parker or Gerrard and let them do the yelling.

Hart is quality but I don't know how well the other players look up to him at this point. I think Parker is the better choice for the tournament, and then look at giving it to Hart afterwards.

Give it to Parker, consummate pro that everyone respects and most recent FWA footballer of the year. I trust him to exert leadership throughout the pitch more than a keeper. And then when Parker is past it you can give it off to Rooney or another outfield player rather than Joe Hart keeping it for the next 10 years.

Parker really is the obvious choice, especially given how inspirational he was for West Ham last season when he wasn't even their captain.

I wish Parker had been playing for us for ages instead of rotting on the Chelsea bench for a bit. Either him or Barry should be captain purely to keep one of Gerrard/Lampard out of the side. (watch as this happens but they both play in midfield and Barry is captaining from RB).

If England went 4-3-3/4-2-3-1, could Gerrard and Parker play centre midfield with an AMC ahead of them?

Apparently Matthew Upson is commanding enough to captain over Parker, and since you need a centre half in place of Terry...
